Merchants of Doubt

Naomi Oreskes

LOOSE SUMMARY/TRANSCRIPTION

Naomi Oreskes is a historian of science, an analyst of climate change literature, a mining geologist (who worked for four years in South Australia), she has a PhD from Stanford University, is professor of history science at University of San Diego, and has written a number of books, including:  'Merchants of Doubt'.

2005 Gov California Arnold Schwarzenegger announces intention to commit State of California to Kyoto level emissions controls of greenhouse gases:
"I say the debate is over.  We know the science.  We see the threat, and we know the time for action is now."
Mid 2000s, it seemed the American people had finally got the scientific message that global warming real and under-way.

Yale Project on Climate Change - working with Gallup Poll Org - in 2007 showed 72% of Americans were completely or mostly convinced that global warming was happening.  Sixty-two percent believed life on Earth would continue undisrupted only if society takes immediate & drastic action to reduce global warming.

Mid-2000s many former contrarians & skeptics had come around, incl. Republican strategist, Frank Luntz:

" ... there is global warming taking place ... behavior of humans ... [is] affecting the climate."

Public accepted climate change as a problem and wanted the government to take action, but Republicans were perceived as weaker on that issue than Democrats.

Luntz gave advice on how to address this Republican weakness:
  1. Use the phrase 'climate change' rather than 'global warming', as 'climate change' is a lot less frightening than 'global warming'.
  2. Emphasise scientific uncertainty.
  3. Insist that there is no consensus.
ie make 'lack' of scientific certainty a primary issue of the debate.

NOTE:  use 'lack' of scientific certainty as a political strategy.

Luntz's position about the scientific consensus was not factually correct.  The scientific debate was *not* still open.

Two years before Luntz's memo/advice:
Third Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (2001)("IPCC") - climate scientists had concluded:
"human activities ... are modifying the concentration of atmospheric constituents ... that absorb or scatter radiant energy"
and had put 50 years of observed global warming down to:
"the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations".
However, scientific evidence had coalesced even earlier than 2001.  In the Second Assessment Report of the IPCC (1995), scientists concluded:
"The balance of evidence suggests a discernible human impact on global climate."
Oreskes' own study of history of climate science (where she analysed public literature related to anthropogenic global change (ie change in environment as result of human activity), showed that scientists had a consensus on the human cause of climate change by the early 1990s.

Scientific consensus which was already in place by 1992-1993 was reflected in the IPCC Second Assessment Report (1995).

The 1995 IPCC report was reflecting a scientific consensus that was part of the reason why world leaders had gathered in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 to sign the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

USA is a signatory to the UNFCCC, which pledges to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference in the climate system.  Signed by US President HW Bush 1992.  Bush called on world leaders to translate the written document into "concrete action to protect the planet."

Gus Speth, who served on the Council on Environmental Quality in the Carter White House, was asked what happened 2007.  Response was he thought they were on track to make real changes.

So what happened to the scientific consensus that emerged in the 1990s & what happened to the political response to that science that was encapsulated in the Framework Convention on Climate Change?
Emergence of a political challenge to that science.  A story of selling uncertainty.  Using uncertainty as a political tool in order to stave off government action on climate change & to protect the free market (as some people understood it).
History of Climate

Began with John Tyndall (1820-1893) - established concept of 'greenhouse gas' in 1850s
Established greenhouse properties of carbon dioxide (CO2)

Tyndall showed that CO2 + water vapour have a distinctive and important property:
* highly transparent to visible light.
* opaque to infrared light.
So light from the Sun comes into the atmosphere but tends to be trapped by the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere - that's the natural greenhouse effect - and Tyndall understood this to be an important fact about the planet, because without greenhouse gases the Earth would be as cold as the Moon or Mars and inhospitable for life.

1900s - Svante Arrhenius (Swedish)
Realised that when you burn fossil fuels you release CO2 into the atmosphere & that if you increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere then you may expect the climate to warm up.  Arrhenius did the calculations on warming the Earth, which he thought positive (as he was from cold climate).

First person to suggest global warming may be a bad thing & that it might also be under way is Guy Stewart Callendar, an English steam engineer and inventor.

Callendar argued in the 1930s that available data indicated CO2 levels were already increasing and that temperature may be increasing as well.

1938 article in Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Callendar suggested that these effects were perhaps already beginning and that scientists should study this in further detail.

The following year war broke out in Europe and scientists became diverted by other issues.

1950s scientists returned to the subject of global warming, incl. Roger Revelle and Hans Seuss, professors University of California.

Tellus Oceanography Journal (1957), Revelle & Seuss publish article in which they argue that mankind was performing a 'great geophysical experiment' by burning carbon (fossil fuels) stored in rocks for 100s of millions of years of geological time, rapidly returning an enormous amount of CO2 to the atmosphere, and that this could be expected to have an impact on the atmosphere and that scientists should begin to monitor the potential effect.

--

Revelle obtained funding for systemic measurement of CO2 in Earth's atmosphere.

Measurements undertaken by CLARLES DAVID KEELING (professor at University of California)  - see KEELING CURVE - commencing 2958, as part of  International Geophysical Year (IGY).  Keeling was later awarded National Medal of Science by GW Bush.

Seasonal variation of CO2 associated with photo synthesis in northern hemisphere where most of the world's land masses are.

By 1965 concluded that there is detectable, slow but sure, increase in CO2.

1965 - President's Science Advisory Committee Board on Environmental Pollution led by Revelle & Keeling.

Reported:  by 2000 there will be 25% more CO2 in atmosphere, modifying the balance of the atmosphere to such an extent that marked changes in climate could occur.

1965 - Lyndon B Johnson declared:

This generation has altered the composition of atmosphere on a global scale through steady increase in CO2 from burning fossil fuels.

Computer Modelling

With the rise of computer modelling arose consensus between scientific experts that:  given the rise of CO2 that Keeling had demonstrated, sooner or latter, global warming would occur.

Conclusion drawn from basics of physics and chemistry of general circulation of atmosphere.

1979 - US National Academy of Science

Plethora of studies indicates consensus that climate change will result from:
1) Man's combustion of fossil fuels.
2) Changes in land use.

British Undercover Police Surveillance of Unions & Collusion in Blacklisting 1,000 Workers

Police 'spying' whistleblower admits to MPs that he infiltrated six trade unions

    18:41, 13 March 2015
By Mark Ellis , Steve Doohan

The revelation by former Special Demonstration Squad officer Peter Francis has piled further pressure on Home Secretary Theresa May to widen inquiry into undercover policing

[ ... ]
Pressure: Unions want Home Secretary Theresa May's inquiry into undercover policing to cover a wider remit

An undercover cop turned whistleblower has admitted to MPs for the first time that he spied on six unions.

The revelation by Peter Francis, a former officer with the Metropolitan Police's controversial Special Demonstration Squad (SDS), has piled pressure on the government to widen the remit of a judge-led public inquiry.

Campaigners and union leaders claim the move is the only way to discover the extent of police involvement and collusion in the blacklisting of thousands of construction workers.

Home Secretary Theresa May this week ordered an investigation into undercover police work and the SDS over the last 40 years by Appeal Court judge, Lord Justice Pitchford,

Speaking at a House of Commons reception, Mr Francis admitted that he spied on the National Union of Students, Unison, the National Union of Teachers, the building workers’ union UCATT, the firefighter’s union FBU and the Communication Workers’ Union.

He said it was an opportunity to “unreservedly apologise” to all the union members he spied on and he said the Home Secretary’s investigation must look into blacklisting and police collusion.

Blacklisting came to light when in 2009 the Information Commissioner’s Office seized a database of names of 3,213 construction workers and environmental activists.

It was held by the now-closed down Consulting Association (TCA) and its files were used by 44 companies to vet new recruits and block trade union and health and safety activists from getting jobs.

Mr Francis added: ”Police spying on political activists has destroyed lives and that I, most unfortunately and regrettably, played a part in this.”

GMB national officer Justin Bowden said “The decision by Peter Francis to blow the whistle on undercover police spying on five further unions is to be congratulated.

“Until all the information about the undercover spying activities of the police is fully in the public domain, and the police held to account for their activities, trust cannot even begin to be restored.

“The latest revelations from Peter Francis highlight exactly why it is essential that Lord Justice Pitchford’s inquiry into undercover policing and the operation of the Metropolitan Police’s controversial Special Demonstration Squad (SDS), must also include blacklisting.”

Thought this was a pretty cool article because it exposes police interference with groups exercising their political and other basic rights in Britain.

Government might play at (a) being distanced and (b) conducting an enquiry, but the police force is under the control of the government and I don't buy for one minute that this is the work of some rogue police unit that's not accountable to those above, all the way to politicians and intelligence personnel.

This is just more of the same; only they've got caught.

Interesting to see who has been targeted.  It looks like the British authorities go after just about any kind of target - ie the harassment is wide-sweeping.

Blacklisting is an added *ugly* factor.  Hope the people affected by this get a nice, big payout.
Regardless of the inquiry, don't expect anything to change.

Really love going through this kind of news but one person can't do this kind of thing justice, or indefinitely indulge in such a time consuming fixation ...  (:

Anyway, this is just a snippet of what's happening right now.

The Columbia spy story is BIG (well, to Latin America and to me).  Haven't check how it's doing in mainstream western media right now.  But it ought to be HUGE.

A former journalist, activist Itai Dzamara, has likely been abducted by the Zimbabwe Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), and there's been a big protest at the Zimbabwe embassy in London (video above).  That news ought to be huge, too.

Don't fancy his chances after a passage of two weeks, but I'm no expert.  That's probably just for standard crimes.  Maybe it doesn't apply to intelligence service abductions.

John McCain - Creator of ISIL / Islamic Emirate? - Thierry Meyssan Article

SOURCE

John McCain, Conductor of the "Arab Spring" and the Caliph

SUMMARY
JOHN McCAIN creation ISIL (Islamic Emirate)

Ibrahim al-Badri nom de guerre Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
created ISIL while on staff of "moderate" Free Syrian Army FSA

Author says all the same mob:
Free Syrian Army
= flag of French colonization > aim depose Assad
Al-Nosra Front
= flag of al Qaeda > aim Islam spread
Islamic Emirate
=  flag of Caliphate >aim clean area of all infidels

International Republican Institute (IRI)
= Republican branch of NED/ CIA
"NGO" est. by Reagan to extend activities of CIA

IRI established in connection  British, Canadian & Australian secret services.
inter-governmental agency / budget congress approved.

John McCain coup resume:
> Jean-Bertrand Aristide Haiti = completed
> Ukraine coup = completed
> Hugo Chávez Venezuela = *failed
> Mwai Kibaki Kenya = *failed

Sounds like author is saying John McCain is a CIA agent?
{Think McCain's getting too much credit here}

1990 USA led Saddam Hussein to believe attack on Kuwait considered internal affair / then used as pretext to mobilise coalition vs Iraq
B/c of Russia opposition, USA did not overthrow Hussein but made do with no-fly zone
2003 France influence not enough to offset 'Committee for the Liberation of Iraq' & prevent USA attack on Iraq
John McCain = major contributor to 'C'tee for Liberation of Iraq'
US let pvt co plunder Iraq for a year
Tried partition of country into three.
[USA somehow lost $9-billion transferring (think plundered funds from fed reserve to Iraq) this isn't in article ... thought I'd add it in because it came to mind.]

USA attempt to partition Iraq in x3 failed due to resistance of population. USA tried again 2007. Failed. Now tool = Islamic Emirate
USA has aims to achieve partition of Iraq via "means of a non-state actor: the Islamic Emirate", says author.

Islamic Emirate proxy op planned before meeting b/w John McCain + Ibrahim al-Badri.

>5,000 jihadis were trained at expense of Qatar in NATO’s Libya in 2012
>$2.5-m paid at same time to the future Caliph.

2014 US Congress
= secret vote in violation of interl law
to approve funding for Al-Nosra Front (Al-Qaeda) + Islamic Emirate

author says US Congress secretly voted funding "Islamic emirate in Iraq and the Levant" {assume this is ISIL - do not know what 'Islamic Emirate' is}

US Congress secret vote on funding 'Islamic Emirate' violation international law, highly likely incls. arming & training jihadists.

SaudiArabia announced:
1)Islamic Emirate headed by Prince Abdul Rahman al-Faisal
brother of Prince Saud al Faisal (Foreign Minister)
2) Prince Turki al-Faisal (Saudi Arabia ambassador to US & UK)
Islamic Emirates = new step in world mercenaries

Islamic Emirates = new development mercenaries b/c not a residual force: actually an army in itself.

Mercenary army, Islamic Emirates has:
1) sophisticated communication services at disposal for recruitment ...
2) civilian officials trained in large western schools taking over administration of territory

Islamic Emirates mercenary army:
  • Ukrainian weapons Saudi Arabia bought
  • conveyed by Turkish secret services to Islamic Emirates
4 days after delivery Ukraine arms: joint attack on Iraq by Islamic Emirate & Kurdistan Regional Govt

Islamic Emirates & Kurd attack =
> Islamic Emirate get Sunni part of country
> Kurds increase territory by 40% religious minorities fled
Simultaneous attack Islamic Emirate + Kurd
& divvy of territory while minorities flee, enables partition of Iraq that USA has wanted

Iraq
Violating Iraqi-US Defence agrmt
Pentagon did not intervene > allowed Islamic Emirate to continue conquest & massacres.

Eventually some US bombing after 1mth, due to pressure of public opinion (author says).

US bombing not meant to destroy the jihadist army / will have no impact on activities in other areas of Iraq or Syria

Iraq bombings - symbolic. Destroy little. Just ensure each jihad player does not overlap territory it was assigned.

Author says: "Kurds ... Turkish & Syrian Kurdish PKK which halted the progress of the Islamic Emirate."

Islamic Emirate = comparable to mercenary armies of 16thC Europe conducting religious wars for the lords who paid them.

"Caliph Ibrahim is a modern condottiere." Condottiere = leaders (warlords) Italian mercenary army late Middle Ages.

Condottiero meant "contractor" {Renaissance Italian} synonymous with mod Eng. 'Mercenary Captain' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condottieri

Summary source:
http://www.voltairenet.org/article185085.html

Found this article very interesting.

Unsure if 'Islamic Emirate' is ISIL.  Assumed it was at first, but now I'm confused.

The author, Thierry Meyssan, is a French journalist and political activist, so I'd say he knows what he's talking about.

Not sure if he meant that McCain is a CIA agent or he was just saying he is an agent of the US government, which is the same thing, I suppose.

As I know very little about the Middle East, my trying to come to grips with this stuff is hilarious.

Not sure how much of this I'll remember.  Also, the Middle East isn't entirely my thing.  I get interested and then freaked out when I see pictures of the carnage on twitter ... and I'm spooked by the whole religious trip everyone's on over there.  Religious mania and the kind of violence engaged in over there isn't something I can relate to.

ČR's diplomacy: Russia breaches human rights in Crimea
ČTK |
19 March 2015

Prague, March 18 (CTK) - The human rights situation in Crimea has dramatically worsened since its annexation by Russia a year ago, the Czech embassy in Kiev writes in a secret report for Prague, public Czech Radio (CRo) said Wednesday, adding it has a copy of the report at its disposal.

The report comes from last summer, but according to the radio's sources, similar information is being constantly sent to Prague.

"The Foreign Ministry is concerned about some reports on the growing reprisals in Crimea," the Czech Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

It stressed that the report from the Czech embassy in Kiev was not secret, but a routine wire used as every-day communication between embassies and the Foreign Ministry.

The Czech Republic still considers Crimea a part of Ukraine and its occupation by the Russian troops and subsequent annexation a gross violation of international law, it added.

According to the report of which CRo informed Wednesday, Russia breaches all human rights and freedoms on the peninsula and it started massive repressions against the inhabitants after the occupation of Crimea.

The Russian repressions target not only activists, but also ordinary citizens. The situation of the Crimean Tartars is worst, the report says.

The Czech diplomats in Kiev say people are tortured, beaten, intimidated, detained and falsely accused in Crimea.

The Crimean parliament declared the peninsula's independence of Ukraine one year ago. Four days later, Crimea formally joined the Russian Federation. Kiev refuses to recognise this step and it continues to consider Crimea its territory.

COMMENT
'Secret report'?  Yet it's a Czech government agency to Czech government agency.  Please.  Spare the melodramatics.

The pro Russian commentators are right; the West and their buddies are going to use Crimea as an ongoing tool to smear, criticise and sanction Russia.

Czech Foreign Ministry 'concerned'?  Oh, sure.  The only thing they're concerned about is undermining the Russians any way they can.  And why not?  Czechs appear to be on very cosy terms with the US and CIA.

Article contradicts itself.  Make up your minds.  Secret report or routine report?

Czech Republic considers Crimea a part of Ukraine?  Well, that settles it then.
The Crimeans that voted for reunification with Russia (Crimea being historic Russian territory), should all do as the Czech republic and their Yankee friends see fit:  surrender at once to a neo-Nazi US-puppet, Russian-hating, illigitimate Ukraine regime.

Russia should start issuing statements along the lines that it does not recognise Czech sovereignty.  That would be good for a few laughs, much like this Czech proclamation.

Article goes on:  Russia doesn't just breach human rights in Crimea; it breaches 'all human rights'.  Yep.  Sure.  If you're going to write propaganda, at least try to make it believable by making it moderate.

Activists, 'ordinary citizens', and the Crimean Tatars in 'peril', are now the go-to tool in the anti-Russian smear, criticism & divisiveness arsenal of the likes of these US puppet Euro-wankers.

Czech diplomats claim the population is subjected to "tortured, beaten, intimidated, detained and falsely accused in Crimea."
Sure sounds a lot like America to me.  Happens every single day in USA.  But you won't hear those Czech stooges writing reports and complaints about that.
Of course, this Russian smear is couched in terms of 'concern' for those in Crimea.  Particularly the Tatars.  Keep an eye on the Tartars.  I'm guessing this is a sector of the population that the West will attempt to use.

The Crimean parliament didn't merely declare independence.  Independence was declared following a referendum that overwhelmingly supported independence from the illegitimate Ukraine regime, in favour of reunification with Russia.

The Czech ambassadors, via Czech state radio, dutifully inform us that Ukraine refuses to recognise the will, the law and the independence of the Crimean people.  What a joke, coming of an illegitimate US puppet government.

The thing that I was most drawn to was the article that Czech Ambassadors wrote a 'secret' report to Prague from CIA friendly Kiev, whose illegitimate government has been installed by US-backed coup.

Probably the funniest piece of 'news' I've come across today, not counting Sapo in Sweden warning of Russians.

Russia intensifies espionage in Sweden, security service says

Sweden's Sapo intelligence service noted an increased involvement in Russian espionage in Sweden, including possible war plans.

By Ed Adamczyk Follow @adamczyk_ed Contact the Author | April 7, 2014 at 2:16 PM

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 7 (UPI) -- Russia’s intensified espionage efforts in Sweden include preparations for war, the Swedish government security service Sapo warned Monday.

“The most serious threat we see right now are war preparations,” Sapo chief counter-intelligence analyst Wilhelm Unge said. “It’s no secret Russia is engaged in this. It’s a little bit worrying.”

He stressed, though, that alleged Russian preparations did not signify anything dramatic.
Unge said evidence included simulated flight attacks on Swedish targets, an increase in attempted recruitment of spies, increased signals intelligence and the purchase of a large number of maps.

Of the simulated flight attacks, Unge said, “You don’t carry out these kinds of things unless you can actually conceive carrying out an attack in the future.”

The comments came as part of Sapo’s annual intelligence assessment, which noted 14 other countries, including China and Iran, having espionage interests in Sweden. Russia has, by far, the largest, Sapo said.

Unge noted the increased spying by Russia was likely a result of Russia’s interest in Crimea and Ukraine, but gave no other details.

All fun stuff, but Sweden's Sapo article circulated by Associated Press gave me the most laughs.

So about this time every year, someone at Sapo is going to make an announcement that the Russians are preparing for war and that they're on an aggressive Sweden spy recruitment and snooping drive? LMAO

Sweden / Assange - Many Investigation Irregularities Pointed Out by Former Prosecutor Hillegren

The prosecutor in the Assange case should be replaced

Marianne Ny has increasingly painted himself into a corner. Is it even possible to imagine that she, after completing interviews with Assange in London, concludes that the investigation should be closed down? writes former prosecutor Rolf Hillegren.
March 17, 2015 at 13:19, Updated: March 17, 2015 at 13:20 FOCUS | ASSANGE CASE
Rolf Hillegren

The prosecutor is solely responsible for the investigation is driven forward and his duty to be objective makes the task delicate.

Rolf Hillegren

On June 19, 2012 took Julian Assange refuge in Ecuador's embassy in London and on 16 August the same year he was granted political asylum in Ecuador. Since then, it should have been clear to most people except for the public prosecutor Marianne Ny Assange does not intend to voluntarily waive their asylum and go to Sweden where he since November 2010, detained in absentia for sexual offenses. The prosecutor has simply failed to act on the unique situation arisen with Assange's occupation of the embassy. She has consistently maintained that the only way to push the investigation forward is that Assange is available for questioning in Sweden.

The detention decision was appealed and the decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal in 2010. In conjunction with the new appeal in November 2014 the Court of Appeal found that Assange would remain in custody but claimed that the prosecutor's failure to consider alternative ways not consistent with the obligation to pursue the investigation forward. This was ignored by the prosecution despite stating that the issue is continuously considered.

Court of Appeal's decision was appealed to the Supreme Court and 10 March 2015 requested the HD to the Prosecutor-General's opinion on the matter and in particular with regard to investigations and proportionality.

Then the prosecutor has suddenly changed her mind and already March 13, 2015 decided that the hearing be held in London. By way of explanation, she stated that some of the crimes approaching limitation but adds that the investigation loss of quality of interrogations held in London. Apparently, she has overlooked that even protracted investigations have negative effects.

For me who has been a prosecutor and has years of experience of listening to dubious corrections and afterwards constructions appear Marianne Ny explanation for its change of position as unconvincing.

Her lack of action over the past few years can only be interpreted to mean that she harbored the prejudice that further questioning of Assange could only lead to his prosecution. But then, a prosecutor does not behave.  [Uncertain what he is getting at.  That prosecutor biased in the belief that questions would produce a prosecution?  That only works if you actually believe that any of this is a genuine prosecution.  In my view, that resurrected (originally dismissed investigation) and conspicuous Sweden delay, both serve to keep Assange (and WikiLeaks) 'on ice' while enabling the US authorities to mount their case and extradition of Assange to the US.]

As prosecutors must act completely unbiased manner and constantly be prepared for all eventualities. It is very common - particularly in sexual offense investigations - that the investigation is closed down on the grounds that crimes can not be substantiated. The possibility seems prosecutor to have completely disregarded in the Assange case. This is especially remarkable as proof mode is rather doubtful, as those who so wish can state when the previous study is available online.

If the prosecutor acted in the only way that was it reasonable, she should have questioned Assange as soon as possible in autumn 2012. The most likely scenario is that she then found reason to discontinue the examination on the grounds that crimes can not be substantiated. As it stands, there are many indications that Assange has so far spent over two and a half years at the embassy in vain.

The thing is that it was quite possible to interrogate him in London long before he went to the embassy. This is not good enough as some assert that "he must blame himself."

The prosecutor is solely responsible for the investigation is driven forward and his duty to be objective makes the task delicate. It is equally likely that an innocent being unfairly treated as a civil party, it will be if the investigation is not conducted expeditiously.  [Not sure what he's saying beyond prosecutor's duty to be objective & push investigation forward.  Bad translation.  Maybe he's saying failure to conduct timely investigation = innocent party unfairly treated?]

Should the prosecutor, on the other hand, after questioning Noting that the prosecution shall be instituted had the problem persisted but the prosecutor's conduct would have seemed less culpable. Entirely unobjectionable, it had not been. I content myself here with a reminder that the matter quickly closed down by an experienced prosecutor in 2010 and I am convinced that the majority of the country's senior prosecutors would have done the same.

As the years have gone by the prosecutor's prestige and passivity made her increasingly painted himself into a corner from which no honorable way back there. Is it even possible to imagine that she, after completing interviews with Assange in London, concludes that the investigation should be closed down? What criticism would she suffer? And what criticism would be directed against the Prosecution?

Given that the prosecutor so far demonstrated a lack of objectivity and pushed the investigation in violation of their duties and the usual practice is an imminent risk of a hearing in London will lead to her against his better judgment and reasons of prestige finds that the prosecution should be brought. Should this happen, there is still the possibility that HD highlights arrest in view of the proportionality principle and the realization that Assange did not get to go to Sweden voluntarily.

If the arrest on the other hand is not lifted learn Assange will remain at the embassy and the timing of the overall scandal of the judiciary will be further postponed.

Ideally, Marianne Ny himself realized that she should leave the investigation and that it should continue to be handled by someone who is completely outside her command of marketing. Realizes she's not there should Prosecutor-General acting and refer the case to a new prosecutor - preferably one with high integrity. It is also strange that a överklagare, which in this case after the decision to reopen the investigation itself chooses to pursue it further. It is not usual.  [överklagare could = 'over complainer' ... but I don't know what is meant by that.  Supervisor?  Maybe a supervisor.  So he's saying:  strange that a supervisor, after deciding to re-open the investigation, elects to pursue it further.  Hillegren says:  it is  NOT USUAL.]

No matter how the case will be terminated, it is evident that the case is already qualifies as legal scandal. Through its actions, the prosecution has produced a situation that is far more serious than the crimes for which Assange is suspected. And because the case attracted international attention, she has not only drawn ridicule Prosecution but also disgraced the country - a feat that few suspects usually succeed.

COMMENT

Another exciting article.  This one Swedish.  Written by a former prosecutor, Rolf Hillegren.

Too scattered to focus on this right now.  Check out the highlights.  Wow!
Been directed to a proper translation of the article:

The prosecutor in the Assange case should be replaced

ASSANGE IN SWEDEN

http://assangeinswedenbook.com/2015/03/17/the-prosecutor-in-the-assange-case-should-be-replaced/

Best to check out the good translation referred to above - here.
Mystery solved:  that word was 'Chief  Prosecutor' (not 'supervisor', as I figured).

Regardless, it is referring to Ny, who resurrected the dismissed 'allegations' and then proceeded to investigate the matter herself:
"It is also remarkable that a chief prosecutor, after reopening a case that’s already been closed, appoints herself as its lead investigator. This is not common." [AiS]
It is argued that such a prosecutor cannot be an 'impartial authority', and I can see how that would be a strong argument given this scenario.  However, this is no usual investigation.  The Assange investigation is a highly political matter.

The series of uncommon features pointed out in relation to this investigation:
  1. I was a prosecutor for years, and have years of experience listening to questionable corrections and constructions after the fact. And to me, Marianne Ny’s explanation for her change of position is unconvincing.
  2. Prosecutors must remain completely unbiased and be constantly prepared for the unexpected. It’s very common – particularly in sexual offence cases – that the investigation is closed on the grounds that the crimes cannot be substantiated. The prosecutor seems to have completely disregarded this possibility in the Assange case. This is especially remarkable, as the evidence is rather dubious, as anyone can see, with the preliminary investigation available online.
  3. If Marianne Ny had acted in the only reasonable way, she would have questioned Assange as soon as possible in autumn 2012.
  4. The thing is that it was quite possible to interrogate him in London long before he went to the embassy.
  5. The prosecutor is solely responsible for seeing the investigation moves forward ...
  6. It is also remarkable that a chief prosecutor, after reopening a case that’s already been closed, appoints herself as its lead investigator. This is not common.
[Source: Assange in Sweden]
demonstrates a highly unusual pattern to a Swedish legal investigation that has snared a high profile whistle-blower publisher target who just, ummm ... coincidentally, happens to be the target of a major US legal and intelligence investigation.
'Bias', 'incompetence', 'prestige' issues, and so on, is just a smoke-screen for the ugly truth.
