Sephardi leader Yosef: Non-Jews exist to serve Jews

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.
“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter.
Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.
"With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.
An audio recording of some of the rabbi’s remarks was broadcast on Israel’s Channel 10.
Cartoon in Norwegian daily foments anti-Israel feelings, embassy diplomat says

(JTA) — Israel has called on a Norwegian daily newspaper to apologize for a cartoon that equates Israel with Nazi Germany and North Korea.
The cartoon appeared on Sept. 24 in the daily newspaper Dagbladet. In a letter to the editor published on Tuesday, Dan Poraz, first secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Oslo, called the cartoon “reprehensible and thoughtless.”
“There is a fine line between freedom of speech and hate speech, and this cartoon crossed that line. It’s about time that editors take responsibility. An apology may be a suitable way to start,” Poraz wrote.
“This is damaging because it can incite anti-Israeli bias that can lead to violent reactions,” he said.
The cartoon was reproduced with the letter.
The cartoon shows a woman standing in front of an organic food store holding an orange and saying: “These oranges come from Israel! You are supporting murderers!” The next panel shows her holding a box and saying: holding a carton: “This macaroni is produced in North Korea!? How did you even get a hold of these??” The final panel shows her holding a box of frozen pizza marked with a swastika, with a “Made in Nazi Germany” label, and says: “And this pizza is from N… what kind of store is this??”
Dagbladet’s editor has refused to apologize, saying Israel’s reaction is exaggerated, Ynet reported.
Cartoonist Ola Lysgaard told The Local – Norway that people missed the point of the cartoon, but did not elaborate.

Comic Strip is also incorrect and offensive because it suggests that Israeli products are "unethical" and that by buying these supports "murderers."
This is detrimental because it may incite anti-Israeli bias which can result in violent reactions.
There must be a boundary between "free speech" and "hatretorikk."
This publication has unfortunately crossed this border, and it is time that some editors deliberately turns its responsibilities. It may be appropriate to start with an apology.

This post evolved after stumbling on Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's remarks about non-Jews, which I found deeply offensive.
It is particularly offensive considering the various support and protections Israel received, and continues to receive, from non-Jewish 'donkey' nations.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was the founder of Shas political party and was chief Sephardic rabbi, and thus spiritual leader of Sephardic Israel, which is most of the population of Israel (judging by demographics particulars of Israel, above).
From an outsider's point of view, Rabbi Yosef (and religious leaders such as this) are Israel's equivalent of an Ayatollah. Likewise, Jewish religious law, which is partially incorporated by the Jewish state, appears to be the Jewish equivalent of 'sharia.' But I guess the similarities shouldn't be surprising, when these beliefs sprang from the same Middle-Eastern peoples, who must have shared many of the same customs.
If this is the mindset of a learned religious, political, and spiritual leader of Israelis (or a large portion of them), steeped in centuries-old study, knowledge and tradition, passed down for thousands of years, it's not hard to see this statement as likely being representative of a common Jewish attitude to people outside of (what now appears to be) this multi-ethnic religious 'tribe' of sorts, that's fixated on Jewish political and religious renaissance (and dominance), in the former territory of ancient Judea.
For all the knowledge, tradition and laws passed down over thousands of years, and for all the religious superiority and piety of Shas members, it's hilarious to find Shas members have been convicted of various crimes.
It's quite sobering also, when you consider how religion (which, in my view, is just another form of politics) is held up, revered, protected, permitted wide influence, and, ultimately, exploited.
While an Israeli spiritual leader holds such an ugly (and, in my view, unnatural view) of people not of their political/religious persuasion, Israel becoming the butt of cartoon humour in Norway, for Israel's treatment of Palestinians, is perceived and treated as 'hate speech', and apology and censorship is sought by a representative of Israel.
In this topsy-turvy world, Israel (the oppressor of displaced Palestinian people) is the 'victim' of 'hate,' and political humour (and presumably rebuke of Israel's actions) -- amounting to fair political comment -- is redefined as 'hate speech.'
Meanwhile, the actions that provoked such political cartoon humour and rebuke remaininsignificant background details, as Israel raises the prospect of provocation of anti-Semitism / anti-Semitic violence (the resulting Israeli 'shield'), in an attempt to silence Israel's political critics.
It amounts to demanding that everybody turn a blind eye and remain silent witnesses to Israeli abuses, while criticism of Israel's actions is redefined as 'hate speech.' The spectre of potential anti-Semitic attack is invoked as leverage, by an aggressor (Israel) who demands silence and shifts blame for the prospect of attack (were it to occur). Blame that Israel transfers to the bystander/witness/messenger (ie those that may speak up against what they see as Israeli injustice, oppression and violence toward a displaced people etc), while Israel deflects responsibility/blame for any undesirable responses that may possibly attach to Israel's actions (rather than attach to the mere observation or comment re those actions), as Israel is catalyst/agent of potentially provocative actions (and not the observer or critic).
I'm not invested in what happens in the Middle East, so I really don't care who ultimately gains control of a small tract of land and prevails in terms of assertion of identity and ethnic/national continuity attached to land, so (I think) I can see how both sides might see the contest.
But I do think that seeking to repress freedom of speech, freedom of expression and political freedom, is as detrimental to wider society and as it is self-serving for those that wish to silence others -- whoever the instigator of such censorship.
As for 'hate speech,' I would consider Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's remarks about non-Jews a prime example of speech tantamount to conveying an irrational hatred of the other, but I certainly wouldn't seek to limit the right to such expression.
Rabbi Yosef versus Ayatollah is kind of funny to see.
To me, these religious figures are similar and it looks like they want the same things: the religion, religious laws, religious state, religious fanaticism ... and desire for the destruction of one another's religious state.
But the Iranian Ayatollah isn't as hateful to outsiders.
Yes, the Americans are referred to as 'the Great Satan' ... lol ... but the title is well-deserved, when you consider decades of invasions, coups (including the Iran 1953 coup), fostering domestic discord and revolutions, support of murderous dictators, arming terrorists, proxy wars, wars, carpet bombing, atomic bombing, torture, kidnap, assassinations, extra-judicial drone killings, murder of civilians, etc etc, conducted by the American Mercantile Empire all around the world.
As far as I'm aware, there's been no Ayatollah pronouncement of outsiders as 'donkeys' and, basically, slaves of Iran ... so the Iranian Ayatollah doesn't seem as 'crazy' or as 'dangerous' as he's portrayed.
Considering all the above, I'm inclined to back-flip and conclude that Israel having nukes is maybe a more frightening prospect than Iran having like capabilities.

In a report released yesterday, entitled “Cyber Violence Against Women And Girls: A Global Wake-up Call,” UN Women, the group behind last year’s risible “He for She” campaign, called on governments to use their “licensing prerogative” to ensure that “telecoms and search engines” are only “allowed to connect with the public” if they “supervise content and its dissemination.”
In other words,if search engines and ISPs don’t comply with a list of the UN’s censorship demands, the UN wants national governments to cut off their access to the public.
So, what sort of content does the UN want to censor? ISIS recruitment videos, perhaps, which lure women into lives of rape and servitude? Live-streamed executions from Syria? Revenge porn or snuff videos? There’s no shortage of dangerous and potentially traumatising content on the web, after all, much of it disproportionately affecting women.
Alas not. The UN is hung up on “cyber violence against women,” a Kafkaesque term that is apparently shorthand for “women being criticised on the internet.” At least, that’s how at least two attendees at the launch of the UN report, published by the United Nations Broadband Commission, explained it yesterday.
According to feminist culture critic Anita Sarkeesian, who spoke at the event, online “harassment” doesn’t simply consist of what is “legal and illegal,” but “also the day-to-day grind of ‘you’re a liar’ and ‘you suck,’ including all of these hate videos that attack us on a regular basis.”
Unable to prove that they are the victims of a wave of “misogynistic hate” – no bomb threat against a feminist critic of video games has ever been deemed credible and there are serious doubts about threats supposedly levelled at transsexual activist Brianna Wu – feminists are trying to redefine violence and harassment to include disobliging tweets and criticisms of their work.
In other words: someone said “you suck” to Anita Sarkeesian and now we have to censor the internet. Who could have predicted such a thing? It’s worth noting, by the way, that if Sarkeesian’s definition is correct, Donald Trump is the world’s greatest victim of “cyber-violence.” Someone should let him know. [lol Milo's always so funny.]
Sarkeesian’s comments were echoed by former video game developer, feminist activist and professional victimZoe Quinn, who told the United Nations: “There are individuals on YouTube who have made a living off of [sic] abusing Anita and I.” Quinn does not name any specific YouTubers, and we are left guessing as to who these mysterious “abusers” really are.
Hmm. Quinnmakes more than $3,000 a month on donation site Patreon as she travels around the world talking about her “harassment” story. If anyone is turning a profit from alleged “online abuse,” it’s not the YouTubers.
The message from the UN seems to be: “cyber-violence” against women, at least according to their invited guests, is somehow equivalent to getting thumped, or bullied, or abused in real life, and it’s worth clamping down on basic free speech provisions to insulate these delicate first-world feminist wallflowers from the consequences of their own purposefully provocative statements.
The UNignores the fact that both of their high-profile invitees are professional wind-up merchants who have capitalised on a media environment in which it has become acceptable to say almost anything about “straight white males” and which women, no matter how preposterous their opinions, can get column inches for saying they’ve been “threatened.” (No journalist will ever check their claims.)
Sarkeesian and Quinn are perhaps the finest living examples of what I call quantum superstate feminism, whose figureheads are at once aggressor and victim; trolling, provoking and ridiculing their ideological opponents while at the same time crying foul when their provocative language is returned in kind.
Somehow, I doubt women in actual peril outside Europe and the US will have much time for this self-regarding baloney.

The UN report itself contains a number of bizarre attempts to equate critical tweets on the internet with physical violence. “A cyber-touch is recognised as equally as harmful as a physical touch” says the report. In their press release, UN Women claim that “cyber violence … places a premium on emotional bandwidth.”
It doesn’t tell us what “emotional bandwidth” means, so we are left to guess. It sounds like “emotional quotient,” which girls say their boyfriends are lacking despite their higher IQs. Nonetheless, the concept of “emotional bandwidth” raises interesting questions. Is it a crime when Netflix starts buffering during a romantic comedy?
Inventing nebulous terms is a speciality of the UN. It allows them to “take action” (that is: issue reports no one reads) on something that doesn’t exist, which disguises their impotence when dealing with real human rights abuses. Needless to say, not everyone agrees that “cyber-violence” and “emotional bandwidth” are urgent humanitarian issues.

Tyler isn’t alone. As the Washington Post’s Caitlin Dewey points out, the UN’s grand plan to censor the web fights against the rising tide of cultural libertarianism. If UN Women think they have civil society on their side, they are mistaken. Everyone from academics and Hollywood actors to gamers and reddit users are sick of mendacious, sinister and profoundly anti-intellectual attempts to attack free expression with bizarre concepts like “cyber-violence” and “safe spaces.”
Even Dewey, a critic of unfettered free speech on the web, thinks the UN’s recommendations are “several steps too revolutionary.”
The UNreport’s ham-fisted attempt to equate unwelcome words with violence isn’t its only problem. Its explicit focus on women is never justified, and runs contrary to the data. Research from the Pew Centre has found that “men and women are equally likely overall to have experienced “severe” [online] harassment.” (The research also found that women are twice as likely to be upset by online harassment, but that’s a separate question.) Yet the U.N. group appears to think women’s online harassment merits a special focus. Why?
The UN report’s explanation of the causes of “online cyber violence” echoes the tired language of 1990s moral panics, and in some cases even relies on outdated research from the same period. It blames the “mainstreaming of violence against women” on “popular music, movies, the gaming industry, and the general portrayal of women in popular culture.”
As an enterprising redditor has discovered, the UN’s source is an article from 2000, describing the theories of former Army psychologist Lt. Colonel David Grossman, which accuses Nintendo of manufacturing “equipment for satanic video games.” In the aftermath of the Columbine school shootings, Grossman appeared on TV alongside the evangelical moral crusader Jack Thompson, where he supported Thompson’s argument that video games “trained” school shooters.
The report also has a strange preoccupation with pornography, which it accuses of causing “aggressive behavioural tendencies” as well as “increased interest in coercing their partners into unwanted sex acts.” Their citation is a link to “Stop Porn Culture,” a campaign group chaired by the militantly sex-negative and widely criticised feministGail Dines.
Other citations in the report are dead links to old blog posts.One has to wonder if the UN expected anyone to fact-check it at all. Given that most of their “reports” are boondoggles, I suspect they’re surprised by all the attention.
You’d think UN Women would have more pressing concerns than porn, video games, and “cyber violence.” After all,Saudi Arabia, a country with a real violence against women problem, was recently selected to chair a key human rights panel elsewhere in the sprawling UN ecosystem. But ethical priorities don’t seem to be the UN’s strong suit.
It can be pointless and pedantic to play what some of us call “Oppression Olympics,” but in this case the discrepancy between this UN group’s complaints and the real suffering of women is too great to ignore. In a world afflicted by female genital mutilation, forced marriages and acid attacks on girls whose only crime is wanting an education, the UNhas chosen to focus on the professional whinging of privileged and mendacious western activists.
What, in my view, amounts to Western social and political oppression, driven by a melange of exploitative politicians and their parties, supranational organisations, non-government organisations, interest groups, various media darlings, the complicit corporate media, and leftist independent media, is suffocating.
Social media 'victimhood' lobbying culture has a parallel industry of 'victimhood' professionalmedia messaging, sensationalising, and delivering a Chinese water torture of incessant dripping of subjective and agenda-driven complaint and sermon of one kind or another, posing as 'universal truth', delivered from a position of moral 'authority,' insisting the world is not as it ideally 'should' be, according to these self-appointed 'authorities' and their 'victim' ego identified exhibits, various 'supporters,' and other professional beneficiaries of 'victimhood' of some kind or other.
Self-interested and/or agenda-pushing parties receive rewards of a personal, professional and/or political nature, while pushing for a state-mandated emotional and social 'nirvana', that defies reality.
What they have in common is exploitation of what they portray as the 'need' to 'protect' some group or other (the designated 'victim', portrayed as 'helpless' etc), and calling for measures that ultimately put at risk important civil (and therefore political) liberties of all people.
And when dealing with the internet, any incursion on freedom of speech is not merely confined to the nations of specific agenda-pushers; detrimental impact is amplified: internationally.
Taking a 'protective' path concerning freedom of expression and freedom of speech, will not deliver the blissful conditions sought.
Instead, we can expect: state-serving, and state enforced, social and political oppression and sterility.
Milo's right about the UN being a joke. On top of publicly severing heads in the hundreds per annum, Western ally, Saudi Arabia has recently sentenced a teenager to crucifixion.
As well as benefiting politicians that wish to stifle dissent and criticism (and abusers of power the world over that wish to silence critical voices), the path of censorship also benefits heavy-duty oppressors such as Saudi Arabia, when censorship is used (as it will be) to stifle criticism and information.
Freedom of speech (and therefore personal and political freedom) should be vigorously defended, first and foremost.

Laws restricting freedom of speech don't merely apply to the occasional 'genocide advocate' or whatever that guy is that's supposedly a catalyst for the Liberal party back-flip.
Suppressive laws of this kind affect everybody, across all manner of political and historical debate -- or lack thereof.

Britain's Corbyn's off to a predictable start.
Corbyn's attended a 'refugees welcome' rally, immediately following his election as Labour leader in Britain, working the media momentum to make the most of the opportunity to extend his party's feel-good profile (and, presumably, to also fan the continued goodwill of what I guess is Labour's Marxist liberal supporter base).
So, why are lefties evangelising the disastrous consequences of the foreign policies of imperialist interventions abroad, to the immediate and long-term disadvantage of their vulnerable and their working class -- as well as the inevitable social consequences to those at home?
More government? I don't know. Yes, I guess so ... if he means more services will be required, and maybe more protections and special considerations that may be sought to accommodate those from different cultures, leading to more nanny state encroachment and suppression to keep order, or something like that?
Bet there's no mention at Corbyn's rally that there will be less resources for state services that are already stretched, as funding the welfare state is less of a priority for Britain than funding the warfare state: spending on NATO armaments, on behalf of private interests that are creating mayhem abroad and creating this problem in the first place.
Merkel's Germany is unbelievable. No wonder there's a history of massive anti-immigration demonstrations in Germany.
As for the in-vogue welcome demonstrations, they're not for the new arrivals, who wouldn't a clue what's going on in host countries.
So, this would be a show performance ... but I've no idea who the target audience may be.

this must surely (to some extent) be part of a 'manufacture of consent' campaign, designed to appear a grass roots level support factor (propping up consequences of neoliberal aggression), and is probably indicative of (a) a co-opted left and (b)astroturfing organisations at work on behalf of imperialist interests.
