George Soros Social Experiment - Bonfires in Berlin?

Soros and Co. Harboring New 'Color Revolution'… This Time in Europe

Opinion
16:53 08.10.2015(updated 16:54 08.10.2015)

Europe will soon be destabilized just like the Middle East due to "George Soros and Co.'s" social-engineering efforts, independent Poland-based journalist and publicist Konrad Stachnio claims.

What does the future have in store for Europe? Fires, riots, toppled governments and total destabilization — more or less as has happened recently in Ukraine, independent Poland-based journalist and publicist Konrad Stachnio predicts.

"Every time I see the old, good George Soros saying something about democracy and European values, I know that something is going to happen. This is the case in Ukraine, when George argued that democracy is the most important thing and when he says that European values are most important and that is why we must accept million refugees every year. How will it end? Probably as usual: fires, riots, overthrowing governments and total destabilization in Europe, more or less as it ended up recently in Ukraine," Stachnio emphasized in his article for New Eastern Outlook.

Europe has been caught in a trap of 'European values' and liberal democracy. EU member states are unable to resist the flow of migrants from the Middle East since it would mean a "rejection of the values on which the European Union was built and rights which should govern it," the journalist noted quoting infamous liberal billionaire George Soros.

But "is the pillar of Europe also the mindless acceptance of everything and everyone, regardless of the real threat coming from Islamic fundamentalists coming to Europe from ISIL?" the journalist asked.

Stachnio pointed to a new disturbing trend emerging in Europe: people with a negative attitude to the refugee crisis and migration are being censured on social networks, particularly Facebook. Furthermore, there is evidence that some of those who vocally opposed immigration were arrested, while others are monitored via various 'foundations' and even fired from work for their anti-immigration remarks on Facebook.

Alas, there is a possibility that the "cake" proposed by "Soros and Co." is poisoned with Islamic fundamentalists hidden in it, Stachnio warned. The journalist pointed to the fact that the EU has virtually no means of distinguishing ISIL fighters from refugees.

"Today [the Islamic State] is able to forge any currency, and also any passport meaning those who have documents are not necessarily those who are in these documents. Moreover, many of these so-called refugees have wiped off their fingerprints. So how do you determine the true identity of the people that come to Europe? In addition, all databases in Iraq and most of the provinces and territories of Syria were in the hands of IS," Stachnio stressed, citing investigative journalist Witold Gadowski.

It is not a question of whether to help Syrian asylum seekers or not, the Polish journalist noted, adding that every thinking person knows that it is necessary to help those in need.

But what is currently going on in Europe is not about helping refugees: we are facing a social-engineering project that will inevitably lead to a new 'color revolution' in Europe, he highlighted.

"When trained, equipped with weapons and well-organized Islamic terrorists will come to Europe, Europe will be completely helpless. There will be riots, disputes, murders and demonstrations, that is, the so-called 'color revolution' on a European scale. In a word, a repeat of Ukraine," Stachnio noted.

Stachnio referred to prominent French politician and author Jacques Attali, an adviser to the United Nations and founder and first President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London from 1991 to 1993, who depicted a prospective history of the planet in the next 50 years in his book "A Brief History of the Future" (2006).

Attali envisages the eventual dissolution of nation-states in favor of a global market dubbed the "hyperempire." The entire planet would be ruled by the class of "hypernomads" which would rely in their turn on "virtual nomads" — technicians, scientists, engineers, managers. Other people, named "infranomads," would live in complete misery. According to Attali, humanity would experience a wave of planetary wars which will change the face of the globe tremendously. Those who survive the disaster will live in a "hyperdemocratic" universe with collective intelligence and wise world government.

Curiously enough, the gloomy picture, drawn by Attali, and the refugee crisis which is threatening to engulf Europe have much in common.

"Coincidence? I do not think so," Stachnio remarked, "It seems that Europe will soon be destabilized à la the Middle East."

The bold social engineering experiment supported by Soros and Co. will result in the increased vulnerability of Europeans in relation to aggressive Islam and more conflicts. Eventually, Europeans will agree "on every top-down despotism," Stachnio underscored, adding that he hopes that his analysis in this case will be incorrect.

How exactly do you 'wipe' fingerprints?  That doesn't make sense.

But it wouldn't be too surprising if a percentage of those that have made their way across to Um Merkel's Europe are extremists.

Extremists or moderate rebels, Europe is headed for a disaster and it's just a matter of time before Europe implodes.

Seeing Europeans are already subjected to EU and German Facebook Stasi despotism, let the tyres burn.  lol

violence
Two fights in an hour, shock at Porta Venezia. The anger of residents
di Gianni Santucci
8 ottobre 2015 | 08:56
Before midnight groups of foreigners have dealt with blows of bottles and throwing ashtrays. Immediately after the beating of a young man

In front of ''Asmara cafe" remain bottles, glasses, an ashtray overturned with its support steel, the cross-section of a car headlight. The fight lasted a couple of minutes: about twenty people (the Horn of Africa, apparently) divided into two groups, some men have turned to run from the corner of Via Tadino and attacked those standing outside the bar; beer bottles hurled like stones splintered on the wall, the shards challenged to hold off the attackers; kicking, punching, men chasing each other, girls screaming loudly, the owner of the kebab has pulled down the shutters. The police arrive immediately (the Flying run continuously in that area), but at that point, at the approach of the sirens, are nearly all disappeared. It remains only an Eritrean girl, 25, who took a shot to the head and was taken to hospital. I'm a little after 23 on Tuesday night. "And today we have given," he smiles a waiter who works here in the heart of Porta Venezia, in over a year landing of refugees from the Horn of Africa, the epicenter of the town anger and protests by "conditions become unbearable." But the evening stupid Via Lazzaro Palazzi is not over yet.

Customers of the restaurants back to sit, waiters reopen the doors that had blocked the boy kebab runs behind the counter. You have to spend an evening in this quadrangle of streets, Lecco-Tadino-Casati-Palaces, the old Lazzaretto, to understand what is happening between the buildings that once absorbed large numbers of immigrants from the South, while the first African communities in a balance that until a few years ago for better or worse has held, while for months now exploding evenings like Tuesday.

An hour has passed from the first fight, and no one has swept the broken glass from the sidewalk, when a boy from Senegal through to two or three times, up and down, the same cross between road and palaces via Tadino. Tall, wearing a pair of brown polyester slacks, shirtless, long dreadlocks. They call Jimmy and know him in many, they say that day gains something by selling bracelets, while tonight waves his arms under the streetlights and the rain and shouting against someone who allegedly stole a cell phone. It is unclear who is trying. For a while 'disappears. Soon after, twenty minutes after midnight, a man runs at breakneck speed on the sidewalk of Via Palazzi: Jimmy chases him, is a fury, the land at the corner of Via Lecco, against cesate the yard behind the church; crushes him with a knee; man (Guinea, former restaurant owner) screaming "help" for a couple of times; someone across the street, says "let Jimmy", while a citizen is in line with the 112 and says: "I'll still be away Palaces." The man on the ground sinks his teeth into the hand of his attacker, who now dripping blood, Jimmy gets up and launches two kicks with all his might against the head; More blood on the asphalt. Pass pass less than a minute and come two policemen, who jump on the boy from Senegal and handcuff him.

Customers of the restaurants have witnessed a fight and aggression. Within an hour. In a space of 50 meters. Wednesday morning the inhabitants of the "Committee of Liberation" (of which includes a representative of the Ethiopian community) have reported the facts of the evening at a meeting in the prefecture, where they asked a fixed garrison of law enforcement to "return to conditions minimum livability in a historic neighborhood of African integration in Milan. " Yesterday afternoon was organized a new operation control by the police, the eleventh since July 18 last year, the fourth in just the first days of October. "Every Thursday we analyze the situation of Porta Venezia - concluded the commissioner for Security, Marco Granelli - during the committees in the prefecture. For some locals we encountered repeatedly violations involving issues of public policy, from the late closing the outdoor music. We are considering urgent orders for the closure of these places. "

Italy’s Immigration Crisis Reaches Boiling Point

The immigration crisis affecting Italy reached boiling-point yesterday. A build-up of asylum-seekers at major train stations in both Rome and Milan led to clashes with police and calls from angry politicians demanding EU assistance.

AFP reports that over the course of the week hundreds of migrants attempting to reach northern Europe gathered in Milan Central and Rome’s Tiburtina train stations. The Schengen Agreement normally means migrants landing in Italy freely travel through neighbouring southern and central European countries as they attempt to reach Britain, Germany and Scandinavia.

However, migrants’ progress is currently blocked because of the temporary suspension of Schengen and reintroduction of border controls brought about by Monday’s G7 summit in Germany. This, allied with increased public transportation spot checks, means the migrants remained in the train stations which were “left looking like refugee camps.

Police forcibly cleared a makeshift camp in Rome on Thursday after local businesses complained that security and sanitation issues mean the surrounding district was becoming a no-go area. By Friday, however, large numbers of the mainly African migrants were already attempting to reassemble nearby.

Elsewhere, more than 100 migrants, mostly women and children, were removed from Milan Central station overnight and housed in reception centres. Concerned by the prevalence of scabies, local authorities offered migrants health checks.

Giorgio Ciconali, a doctor working at the station, told AFP: “There is a lot of scabies and it is being spread by them sleeping rough together, but there is nothing to worry about for people passing through the station.”

Million is a 28 year old Eritrean migrant stranded in Milan, part of a group sleeping rough in the Porta Venezia district. He arrived in the country by boat and initially reached Switzerland where he was detained and flown back to Italy.  Reluctant to return to Eritrea for fear of being jailed, he told AFP:

“I can’t totally criticise the Italians because they have saved most of our lives [at sea]. But now we are here, they do nothing for us. We are reduced to sleeping under bushes, eating biscuits and water and living like tramps. It’s no kind of life, but if you have been fingerprinted you can’t go anywhere.”

Northern League leader Matteo Salvini blames the situation on Prime Minister Matteo Renzi‘s failure to persuade other EU member states to take a share of the incoming migrants.  He said:

“If the government had any balls they would go to Brussels and tell the EU they are not getting another cent from Italy until they recognise we are part of Europe.”

The European border where some die while others play golf
November 14, 2014

Melilla is a city on the east coast of Morocco belong to Spain since the fifteenth century. Morocco does not recognize Spanish sovereignty over the city and, as expected, this has resulted in a confusing situation that also involves the issue of immigration.

The city of Melilla is surrounded by three fences; one belongs to Morocco, the other two to Spain. If a migrant can not step over all three is still within the 'scope of the Schengen treaty, but at least it is within Europe. For this, every day, many try to climb over these fences, often with surrealistic - as in the photo you see above, taken last month by activist José Palazón on a golf course located between the Schengen area and Africa.

The Viennese artist Tanja Boukal has just returned from Melilla, where she went to do research and gather information on refugee camps. I called her and asked her to explain what's going on in that picture, and more generally in Melilla.

VICE: What exactly happened on October 15, the day it was taken that famous photo?

Tanja Boukal: At 7:50 am a group of migrants tried to climb over the fences on the border. They chose that hour because they knew that the changing of the guard would take place between 7.45 and 8.00. The place where they decided to climb is near the refugee camp of Melilla. And between the refugee camp and the fence is, in fact, a golf course. The craziest thing is that the golf course was built with funds from the European community. It was built to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Melilla, while beyond the fence, people die.

Just the day before there had been an escape attempt was successful, then the Spanish frontier police were on alert. About 200 refugees tried to climb over the fence: the majority of them were rejected by the Moroccan border guards, but 15 managed to get to the other part, on Spanish soil.

Although not visible in the picture, between the fence and the golf course there is a road that day was manned by Spanish police officers with batons, pepper spray and dogs. On the other hand, however, there were border police Moroccans with the bars in hand.

The migrants were trapped: they could go neither forward nor back. Spanish police have just waited to come down. They had no food or water. At about 10 am, people began to arrive at the golf course. The scene was surreal.

This situation continued throughout the day, until the evening, the refugees have decided to surrender and fell from the fence. Although it took the Spanish side were still reported in Morocco and from there they were immediately returned to Algeria.

Yes, they're people hanging off that fence, surrounding the tranquil golf course.
Clearly, I'm not a humanitarian.  Scenes like this don't stir anything remotely resembling selflessness in me.  Quite the opposite.
The entry points to Europe are Italy and a Spanish territory in Morocco.
Whose dumb idea was it to include this African territory as part of the Schengen no-borders really crap idea agreement?

Those that managed to get to the Spanish side were reported as being in Morocco and immediately returned to Algeria.

Well, that makes perfect sense.  It's what anyone rational would do.
Italy's Matteo Salvin, politician/journalist who's lobbying against illegal immigration, wishing that the rest of Europe would somehow be convinced to become a new home to Africa isn't facing reality or addressing the Italian end of the problem:  ie Italy allowing their borders to be violated, when they're not doing at-sea collections of illegal immigrants.
The EU needs to be dissolved, the Schengen Agreement should be cancelled pronto, border checks need to be instituted, the refugee convention should be nullified at once, martial law needs to be declared in Europe, and anything that illegally enters European waters or steps illegally onto European soil should become an immediate military target.
Take a look at the sobering statistics now and never mind the astronomical projections.  Anyone that cannot see the need for firm action is soft in the head.  Anarchists, lefties, Christians, and humanitarians are all completely insane.
Of course, nothing will be addressed rationally by the softc*ck European puppet states.
So sit back and watch Europe implode -- until maybe the next world war or something, which can't be too far off now.
Either that, or we're watching the apocalyptic end of Western civilisation.

Douglas Murray

There, that's better.
Apologies for not being able to speak Greek and for not being able to work the microphone.

It's very nice to be in Athens.

I want to open by thanking the organisers for inviting me, for inviting our side, particularly thank, obviously, Intelligence Squared and also the British Council.

I should also say at the outset, I also feel rather sorry for our opponents tonight, who have been appallingly set up, clearly, by the motion that we have been given.

The motion that we are debating tonight is not whether or not the mosque should be built, the motion is that only good can come from building it.

And it seems to me, that the only people who could possibly believe that are people who are extraordinarily naive, people who are extraordinarily ignorant, or something altogether worse.

Now, I'm not a cultural relativist.

I don't believe that all civilisations are equal.  I don't believe all cultures are equal.

That doesn't mean I don't believe we can't all get along.

But I don't believe that we have to pretend, among other things, in debating things like this evening's motion, that we do not ourselves in Europe have a history that we would wish to defend, a culture we might wish to be proud of and to protect, and even to make value judgements about other ideas, other religions, other cultures.

Now, it's my belief that Europe is based on the fundamental principles of Judeo-Christian civilisation and of Greek culture, and from this wonderful symbiosis of values, the history of Europe, the culture of Europe, has emerged.

I believe, furthermore, that states have the right to decide, to at least have a say, in their own future; that waves of illegal immigration do not mean that cultures which have had such immigration immediately have to concede to the incomers.

It's also, I should stress at the outset, is an important debate to have, because there is a problem that Europe is experiencing with Islam.  And I think we have to tackle this head-on.

Islam is a very, very complex thing.

Let nobody say that we on this side are essentialising Muslims, or generalising about Muslims, or aren't aware of the huge variety of practices and beliefs within Islam.

But to create a massive centre at public expense in Athens at this moment should at least be questioned.

We should at least be able to address whether or not it would seem to us to be like a good idea.

Let me give you an example -- from my own country, from Great Britain -- of this kind of thing going on, because in Britain we have many mosques, many Muslim organisations are funded by the government, and I wanted to give one example of the sort of thing which the Athens mosque might yet become on this benevolent idea that if the government is behind it, only good can come from it.

There's a mosque in London called East London Mosque.  The London Muslim Centre is attached to it. It has received a lot of public funding.  It's routinely hosting all sorts of great dignitaries, from the British political class -- and outside.

The American Ambassador in London recently graced it with a visit.  The shadow Justice Minister recently graced it with a visit.  The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, graced it with a visit.  Even Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, is a regular.

There's a veritable drive time at this mosque.  It's hard to get to it for the number of dignitaries cars that are forever drawing up outside.

But is it the case that despite all of these grand official benedictions, it is a place from only which good can come?

No.  Not at all.

You just have to look at the type of people who preach there.

I'm just looking over the last few years.

Recently, Sheikh Khalid Yasin a popular preacher, who also preaches the virtues of public beheading, saying that it would be a grand thing to have in Britain because it would teach people not to murder if they saw heads rolling down the streets.

It's hosted Sheikh  Al-Sudais, who believes that Jews should be annihilated.

It's hosted Yasir Khadi, who's a holocaust denier.

It's hosted among others, Bilal Philips, who is a proponent of suicide bombing.

And it's also, perhaps most famously, hosted Anwar al-Awlaki, a man who is currently on the kill or capture list of that notorious hawk, President Obama.

Just earlier today in London, a young man called Rajib Karim, was convicted of an attempt to bring down airlines -- blow up airline planes -- with the assistance of that man, Anwar al-Awlaki.

So, it's clearly not the case that just because officialdom is involved that mosques are centres of wonder, loveliness and peacefulness, a sort of Anglican Church meets the Green movement.

[audience laughter]

It's also, I think worth noting, one or two of the oddities of Islam internationally at the moment and particularly in this regard.

Islam, when it is in a minority, is extremely good at talking about tolerance.

In a minority, Islam loves to talk about the tolerance that people must show towards the minorities.

One of the things, however, if you look around the world -- and I'm sure I don't need to tell you this -- is that whenever Islam is in the majority, minority rights are nowhere to be seen.

It's a one-directional talk of minority rights.

When Islam is in a minority, it talks of the importance of human rights.

When it is in a majority, those human rights -- including the most basic human rights, like the rights of women to be considered equal beings -- are thrown right out the window.

And I think we also have to bear in mind that there is a problem in the world today of the direction in which organised Islam across the globe is growing.

I think that there are many problems in the religion, as in most religions.

Most religions have problems of some type to get over.

But in Islam there is a particular problem of a magnetic literalism, which keeps on drawing people back to the violent tenets of the faith.

You'd better hope, ladies and gentlemen, that your mosque here is a first internationally and that nobody with any unpleasant statements -- any unpleasant ideas -- could possibly come to it.

You'd better hope that it's not like the US, for instance, where the Muslim Brotherhood movement, for instance, which Tariq's grandfather founded, recently was unearthed as saying that the job of Muslims was to make a civilisation conquest in the West.

You'd better hope, ladies and gentlemen, that nobody would agree with, for instance, with Prime Minister Erodogan -- not a minority, not an unimportant figure -- when he says the mosques are our barracks, the domes are helmets, the minarets are bayonets and the faithful are soldiers.

And, finally, you'd better hope that one of the most influential men today in Islamic terms, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi wouldn't have anything to get near this mosque -- any excuse to get near it -- because he said just recently in a fatwa on the signs of victory of Islam:

It means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and a victor, after having been expelled from it twice.  Once from the south from Andalusia and a second time from the east, when it knocked several times on the doors of Athens.

Ladies and gentlemen, you don't have to be naives and you don't have to be ignorant to notice that knock is happening again, and you don't have to open the door to it.

Thank you.

[applause]

Germany expects 1.5 mn asylum-seekers this year: report
— By PTI | Oct 05, 2015 08:38 pm

Berlin: Germany could receive up to 1.5 million asylum-seekers this year, according to the Bild newspaper, quoting a confidential document containing estimates that are far higher than publicly released official figures. Authorities have so far predicted that Europe’s top economy would record between 800,000 and one million new arrivals in 2015.

But Bild quoted the document saying that the authorities were now expecting to receive 920,000 new arrivals in the coming three months alone, bringing the total number of asylum-seekers this year to 1.5 million.

“The migratory pressure will increase. For the fourth quarter, we expect between 7,000 and 10,000 illegal entries a day,” according to extracts of the document, although Bild did not specify its source.

“The significant number of asylum-seekers risks becoming an extreme burden for the regions and communes,” added the document. The newspaper also quoted the document estimating that each asylum-seeker who successfully obtained refugee status could bring on average “four to eight” family members to Germany.

On the basis of the preliminary forecast of 920,000 migrants, some “7.36 million people” could therefore have the right to move to Germany due to family ties. Interior ministry spokesman Harald Neymanns would not confirm the figures, noting however that the onset of winter could slow the surge in arrivals – as shown in previous years.

“We are still expecting the migration pressure to drop in the winter months,” he said. Government spokesman Georg Streiter said he was not aware of the document’s existence. Chancellor Angela Merkel has been lauded worldwide for her decision to open Germany’s doors to refugees fleeing war and misery.  [They haven't been reading what I've been reading about Merkel.  lol]

But within Germany, her popularity is starting to wane as local authorities struggle to cope with the massive task of hosting the record surge in refugees.

I call bullsh*t even on those figures.  I calculated a horrific figure of just under 6 million per annum, at the rate they're passing through Skopje in a 12-hour period.

Then add the extended family to that.

The European refugee crisis will not end well, says Israeli professor

The developed countries of the world are scrambling to come up with a solution to the refugee problem but one Israeli geostrategist does not see an end in sight.

Professor Arnon Soffer, head of Geostrategy at the University of Haifa, told the The Jerusalem Post on Monday that the current refugee crisis is a result of uneven population growth around the world, which he expects to only get worse.

He said that as populations in poor countries around the world continue to explode, European birthrates continue to decline. The continent of Europe is "committing suicide" for allowing its own population to decline so much, he said, calling it a culture that "would rather have cats and dogs than children," which he joked was similar to Tel Aviv.

He used the continent of Africa as an example. With around one billion people currently living on the continent and another half million expected in the next, decade, Soffer does not think it will be possible to create the necessary infrastructure, water systems, medical clinics and schools to accommodate everyone. This, he said, will force more and more people to seek asylum elsewhere. [*that should probably read 'another half BILLION' expected in next decade, otherwise it doesn't make sense.]

"[Building the infrastructure] in another 10 years? Mission impossible," Soffer said. "They will head for one [place]: Europe."

He said that though countries like Germany are welcoming in refugees with open arms and need more young people, they may face a backlash from their own populace who want to maintain local culture. However, he said that the  Muslim population in Europe is not interested in assimilating and that this will only worsen as more arrive.

"Europe potentially can open its doors and accept more and more refugees, but if Europe says no, I can understand because they are afraid [of] the Muslims," he said. "This is a clash of civilizations and it will not happen in Africa or Asia. It will happen in France, Hungary and will eventually reach England and Germany."

He criticized what he called the hypocrisy of Europe, touting peace and liberty, while the "bloody navies of Europe" turn back refugees coming by sea, letting them drown in the Mediterranean, or allowing them to suffer on land with nowhere to go.

Soffer does not believe that Israel should accept more Syrian refugees, in contrast to calls by some Israeli politicians and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

He noted that it is a desirable place because it is the only developed country in the region that refugees can reach by foot. However, he said Israel is too small of a place to absorb refugees.

"We are a very small country," Soffer said. "We [have been] at continuous war for the past 67 years. Sixty percent of Israel is a military landscape. Sixty percent is desert and please leave me some space for additional Jews to come. So this is the story of Israel and we cannot be as generous as everyone expects us to [be]. No, we cannot do it.

Soffer said there is no way to stop what he referred to as a "Tsunami Wave" of asylum seekers coming to Europe and does not expect a solution in the near future due to the global scale of the problem.

"We are Western and [taught] by Hollywood that everything must have a happy ending. I do not see a happy end."

Western Prisoners of Technotyranny of Shadow Governments in the Service of Corporate Elites

The NSA’s Technotyranny: One Nation Under Surveillance

By John W. Whitehead
May 26, 2015

“The ultimate goal of the NSA is total population control.”—William Binney, NSA whistleblower

We now have a fourth branch of government.

As I document in my new book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, this fourth branch came into being without any electoral mandate or constitutional referendum, and yet it possesses superpowers, above and beyond those of any other government agency save the military. It is all-knowing, all-seeing and all-powerful. It operates beyond the reach of the president, Congress and the courts, and it marches in lockstep with the corporate elite who really call the shots in Washington, DC.

You might know this branch of government as Surveillance, but I prefer “technotyranny,” a term coined by investigative journalist James Bamford to refer to an age of technological tyranny made possible by government secrets, government lies, government spies and their corporate ties.

Beware of what you say, what you read, what you write, where you go, and with whom you communicate, because it will all be recorded, stored and used against you eventually, at a time and place of the government’s choosing. Privacy, as we have known it, is dead.

The police state is about to pass off the baton to the surveillance state.

Having already transformed local police into extensions of the military, the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department and the FBI are preparing to turn the nation’s soldier cops into techno-warriors, complete with iris scanners, body scanners, thermal imaging Doppler radar devices, facial recognition programs, license plate readers, cell phone Stingray devices and so much more.

This is about to be the new face of policing in America.

The National Security Agency (NSA) has been a perfect red herring, distracting us from the government’s broader, technology-driven campaign to render us helpless in the face of its prying eyes. In fact, long before the NSA became the agency we loved to hate, the Justice Department, the FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration were carrying out their own secret mass surveillance on an unsuspecting populace.

Just about every branch of the government—from the Postal Service to the Treasury Department and every agency in between—now has its own surveillance sector, authorized to spy on the American people. Then there are the fusion and counterterrorism centers that gather all of the data from the smaller government spies—the police, public health officials, transportation, etc.—and make it accessible for all those in power. And of course that doesn’t even begin to touch on the complicity of the corporate sector, which buys and sells us from cradle to grave, until we have no more data left to mine.

The raging debate over the fate of the NSA’s blatantly unconstitutional, illegal and ongoing domestic surveillance programs is just so much noise, what Shakespeare referred to as “sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

It means nothing: the legislation, the revelations, the task forces, and the filibusters.

The government is not giving up, nor is it giving in. It has stopped listening to us. It has long since ceased to take orders from “we the people.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, none of it—the military drills, the surveillance, the militarized police, the strip searches, the random pat downs, the stop-and-frisks, even the police-worn body camerasis about fighting terrorism. It’s about controlling the populace.

Despite the fact that its data snooping has been shown to be ineffective at detecting, let alone stopping, any actual terror attacks, the NSA continues to operate largely in secret, carrying out warrantless mass surveillance on hundreds of millions of Americans’ phone calls, emails, text messages and the like, beyond the scrutiny of most of Congress and the taxpayers who are forced to fund its multi-billion dollar secret black ops budget.

Legislation such as the USA Patriot Act serves only to legitimize the actions of a secret agency run by a shadow government. Even the proposed and ultimately defeated USA Freedom Act, which purported to restrict the reach of the NSA’s phone surveillance program—at least on paper—by requiring the agency to secure a warrant before surveillance could be carried out on American citizens and prohibiting the agency from storing any data collected on Americans, amounted to little more than a paper tiger: threatening in appearance, but lacking any real bite.

The question of how to deal with the NSA—an agency that operates outside of the system of checks and balances established by the Constitution—is a divisive issue that polarizes even those who have opposed the NSA’s warrantless surveillance from the get-go, forcing all of us—cynics, idealists, politicians and realists alike—to grapple with a deeply unsatisfactory and dubious political “solution” to a problem that operates beyond the reach of voters and politicians: how do you trust a government that lies, cheats, steals, sidesteps the law, and then absolves itself of wrongdoing to actually obey the law?

Since its official start in 1952, when President Harry S. Truman issued a secret executive order establishing the NSA as the hub of the government’s foreign intelligence activities, the agency—nicknamed “No Such Agency”—has operated covertly, unaccountable to Congress all the while using taxpayer dollars to fund its secret operations. It was only when the agency ballooned to 90,000 employees in 1969, making it the largest intelligence agency in the world with a significant footprint outside Washington, DC, that it became more difficult to deny its existence.

In the aftermath of Watergate in 1975, the Senate held meetings under the Church Committee in order to determine exactly what sorts of illicit activities the American intelligence apparatus was engaged in under the direction of President Nixon, and how future violations of the law could be stopped. It was the first time the NSA was exposed to public scrutiny since its creation.

The investigation revealed a sophisticated operation whose surveillance programs paid little heed to such things as the Constitution. For instance, under Project SHAMROCK, the NSA spied on telegrams to and from the U.S., as well as the correspondence of American citizens. Moreover, as the Saturday Evening Post reports, “Under Project MINARET, the NSA monitored the communications of civil rights leaders and opponents of the Vietnam War, including targets such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohammed Ali, Jane Fonda, and two active U.S. Senators. The NSA had launched this program in 1967 to monitor suspected terrorists and drug traffickers, but successive presidents used it to track all manner of political dissidents.

Senator Frank Church (D-Ida.), who served as the chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence that investigated the NSA, understood only too well the dangers inherent in allowing the government to overstep its authority in the name of national security. Church recognized that such surveillance powers “at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide.”

Noting that the NSA could enable a dictator “to impose total tyranny” upon an utterly defenseless American public, Church declared that he did not “want to see this country ever go across the bridge” of constitutional protection, congressional oversight and popular demand for privacy. He avowed that “we,” implicating both Congress and its constituency in this duty, “must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return.”

The result was the passage of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and the creation of the FISA Court, which was supposed to oversee and correct how intelligence information is collected and collated. The law requires that the NSA get clearance from the FISA Court, a secret surveillance court, before it can carry out surveillance on American citizens. Fast forward to the present day, and the so-called solution to the problem of government entities engaging in unjustified and illegal surveillance—the FISA Court—has unwittingly become the enabler of such activities, rubberstamping almost every warrant request submitted to it.

The 9/11 attacks served as a watershed moment in our nation’s history, ushering in an era in which immoral and/or illegal government activities such as surveillance, torture, strip searches, SWAT team raids are sanctioned as part of the quest to keep us “safe.”

In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, George W. Bush secretly authorized the NSA to conduct warrantless surveillance on Americans’ phone calls and emails. That wireless wiretap program was reportedly ended in 2007 after the New York Times reported on it, to mass indignation.

Nothing changed under Barack Obama. In fact, the violations worsened, with the NSA authorized to secretly collect internet and telephone data on millions of Americans, as well as on foreign governments.

It was only after whistleblower Edward Snowden’s revelations in 2013 that the American people fully understood the extent to which they had been betrayed once again.

What this brief history of the NSA makes clear is that you cannot reform the NSA.

As long as the government is allowed to make a mockery of the law—be it the Constitution, the FISA Act or any other law intended to limit its reach and curtail its activities—and is permitted to operate behind closed doors, [relying] on secret courts, secret budgets and secret interpretations of the laws of the land, there will be no reform.

Presidents, politicians, and court rulings have come and gone over the course of the NSA’s 60-year history, but none of them have done much to put an end to the NSA’s “technotyranny.

The beast has outgrown its chains. It will not be restrained.

The growing tension seen and felt throughout the country is a tension between those who wield power on behalf of the government—the president, Congress, the courts, the military, the militarized police, the technocrats, the faceless unelected bureaucrats who blindly obey and carry out government directives, no matter how immoral or unjust, and the corporations—and those among the populace who are finally waking up to the mounting injustices, seething corruption and endless tyrannies that are transforming our country into a technocrized police state.

At every turn, we have been handicapped in our quest for transparency, accountability and a representative democracy by an establishment culture of secrecy: secret agencies, secret experiments, secret military bases, secret surveillance, secret budgets, and secret court rulings, all of which exist beyond our reach, operate outside our knowledge, and do not answer to “we the people.”

What we have failed to truly comprehend is that the NSA is merely one small part of a shadowy permanent government comprised of unelected bureaucrats who march in lockstep with profit-driven corporations that actually runs Washington, DC, and works to keep us under surveillance and, thus, under control. For example, Google openly works with the NSA, Amazon has built a massive $600 million intelligence database for the CIA, and the telecommunications industry is making a fat profit by spying on us for the government.

In other words, Corporate America is making a hefty profit by aiding and abetting the government in its domestic surveillance efforts. Conveniently, as the Intercept recently revealed, many of the NSA’s loudest defenders have financial ties to NSA contractors.

Thus, if this secret regime not only exists but thrives, it is because we have allowed it through our ignorance, apathy and naïve trust in politicians who take their orders from Corporate America rather than the Constitution.

If this shadow government persists, it is because we have yet to get outraged enough to push back against its power grabs and put an end to its high-handed tactics.

And if this unelected bureaucracy succeeds in trampling underfoot our last vestiges of privacy and freedom, it will be because we let ourselves be fooled into believing that politics matters, that voting makes a difference, that politicians actually represent the citizenry, that the courts care about justice, and that everything that is being done is in our best interests.

Indeed, as political scientist Michael J. Glennon warns, you can vote all you want, but the people you elect aren’t actually the ones calling the shots. “The American people are deluded … that the institutions that provide the public face actually set American national security policy,” stated Glennon. “They believe that when they vote for a president or member of Congress or succeed in bringing a case before the courts, that policy is going to change. But … policy by and large in the national security realm is made by the concealed institutions.”

In other words, it doesn’t matter who occupies the White House: the secret government with its secret agencies, secret budgets and secret programs won’t change. It will simply continue to operate in secret until some whistleblower comes along to momentarily pull back the curtain and we dutifully—and fleetingly—play the part of the outraged public, demanding accountability and rattling our cages, all the while bringing about little real reform.

Thus, the lesson of the NSA and its vast network of domestic spy partners is simply this: once you allow the government to start breaking the law, no matter how seemingly justifiable the reason, you relinquish the contract between you and the government which establishes that the government works for and obeys you, the citizen—the employer—the master.

Once the government starts operating outside the law, answerable to no one but itself, there’s no way to rein it back in, short of revolution. And by revolution, I mean doing away with the entire structure, because the corruption and lawlessness have become that pervasive.

COMMENT

I switched my attention to another topic because the mass non-European invasion in Europe was seriously freaking me out, while the events in Israel were also beginning to do my head in.  But reading this is just as depressing.
What applies in the US, applies elsewhere.  It's just different nations and different agencies, operating in much the same way and in cooperation with their US counterparts and allies (see Five Eyes & note the German BND cooperation with US spying, along with the Five Eyes partners).

It sounds like all ordinary people are doomed to being controlled by shadow unelected governments, that are operating in the service of the corporate elite's interests, and evidently a law unto themselves.

Can't see a revolution coming any time soon, so we're all prisoners and the entire Western democratic government edifice is a lie.
