The new law authorizes the use of military force to liberate any American or citizen of a U.S.-allied country being held by the court, which is located in The Hague. This provision, dubbed the "Hague invasion clause," has caused a strong reaction from U.S. allies around the world, particularly in the Netherlands.  In addition, the law provides for the withdrawal of U.S. military assistance from countries ratifying the ICC treaty, and restricts U.S. participation in United Nations peacekeeping unless the United States obtains immunity from prosecution. The former army chief, who is now a professor at Canberra University’s National Security Institute, added that “Frankly, some of the decisions the United States, our senior partner in our strategic alliance, have [sic] made over the last 20 or 30 years have been a bit crook.” The Chilcot Inquiry, established in 2009 to investigate Britain’s most controversial military engagement since the end of the Second World War, published its 6,000-page report in 12 volumes on Wednesday, slamming former British Prime Minister Tony Blair over support for former US President George W. Bush in the 2003 Iraq war. At the time, Blair presented the case for war with “a certainty which was not justified” based on “flawed” intelligence about Iraq’s supposed weapons of mass destruction (WMD), which was not challenged as it should have been, the report concluded. Blair’s government sent 120,000 members of the British armed forces and civilians to Iraq, proving its role as Bush’s chief military ally.  A total of 179 British personnel were killed in the war. When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn't stop himself.  He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the "bubble of American supremacy," because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global "equilibrium."  So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying. And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms "regime changes," is through very difficult economic conditions. America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment.  But others have. Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England.  He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight. When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it.  Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an "economic war criminal" who "sucks the blood from the people."  Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a "third way" toward economic stability. Coincidentally, or not, during the height of the fears of worldwide recession, then President Clinton told the New York Times that he was proposing a "third way" between capitalism and socialism.  Unfortunately for Soros, U.S. markets rebounded quickly, his predicted catastrophe was forestalled, and his brave new global economic plans receded for a bit. This may have been to Soros' own good, though, because he was by 1998 up to his neck in the collapse of the Russian ruble, and buying up valuable East European resources at fire-sale prices. And why not? He had already been widely proclaiming that it was his own machinations that brought down the Soviet Empire.  When asked about his sphere of influence in the Soviets' demise for a New Republic interview in 1994, Mr. Soros humbly replied that the author ought to report that "the former Soviet Empire is now called the Soros Empire." When our House Banking Committee investigated the Russia-gate scandal in 1999, trying to determine just how $100 billion had been diverted out of Russia, forcing the collapse of its currency and the default of its enormous loans from the International Monetary Fund, Soros was even called to testify.  He denied involvement of course, but finally admitted that he had used insider access in a deal that was barred to foreign investors to acquire a huge chunk of Sidanko Oil. The Russia scandal was labeled by Rep. Jim Leach, then head of the House Banking Committee to be "one of the greatest social robberies in human history." (Shadow Party; David Horowitz and Richard Poe; p. 96) Of course, Russia-gate was quickly hushed up and pushed aside in the public's lurid, and quite insatiable, interest in Monica-gate. Then, George Soros did some more shady economic fooling around in France.  And he actually got caught and charged with illegal insider trading in his attempt to takeover the Societe Generale bank.  He was convicted and the conviction was upheld in 2 separate appeals, the last in June of 2006.  They let him off, however, with a piddling $2.9 million fine. Mere chicken feed to a multi-billionaire. Of course, since George Soros is a naturalized American citizen, it is difficult to imagine just why he would intentionally want to bring about our own economic collapse. But from all appearances, that might be exactly what he has on his mind. By 2003, Soros was already predicting the downfall of the dollar.  In a CNBC interview, amid a slump in the dollar's value against the Euro, Soros added fuel to that fire by stating that he was already selling dollars.  His statement, in turn, caused a further decline in the international worth of the dollar. When George Soros speaks, hedge fund managers and world financiers listen. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to bring about the "October Surprise"  U.S. economic downturn in time for the 2004 election.  Our economy proved too resilient for him then. But he hasn't stopped predicting that yearned-for recession that would spoil things for his political foes, the Republicans. Just after he failed in 2004 to bring about Bush's demise, he went right on trying to force a conclusion to his self-fulfilling prophecy of doom for the U.S.  And this year, it appears as though he may have finally hit pay dirt in the sub-prime meltdown which threatens to actually bring on that long hoped-for recession. In Davos this year, at the World Economic Forum, Soros even went so far as to say that the current housing "bust" would signal the end of the dollar as the world's default currency.     "The current crisis is not only the bust that follows the housing boom," Soros said. "It's basically the end of a 60-year period of continuing credit expansion based on the dollar as the reserve currency." Being that Mr. Soros' stated goal for more than a decade has been to burst the "bubble of American supremacy," it stands to reason that the financial gloom he is predicting for us would be precisely his own little cup of tea. And if the economic picture is bleak in this election year, who stands to benefit?  Why, the Democrats, of course, the beneficiaries of Soros' 527 largesse. And Mr. Soros, along with his "progressive" friends may stand at the ready to issue in their vision of America by strategically re-writing the Constitution. In April 2005, Soros' Open Society Institute was the primary sponsor of a conference at Yale Law School, called, "The Constitution in 2020."  The conference's task was to produce "a progressive vision of what the Constitution ought to be." (Emphasis mine.)  When one sees references in progressive speak about the "evolutionary character of constitutional law," they are talking about changing the Constitution to formally enshrine their policy preferences so they can avoid the messy necessity of having to win elections. (Shadow Party; Horowitz and Poe; p. 71) It would seem, then, that progressives stand at the threshold of fulfilling their wildest dreams right here on American shores.  With a Republican Party in disarray, the economy seemingly poised on the brink of recession, one candidate with the charisma of a snake charmer and another master schemer as backup, and a new Constitution already being planned, what will stand in their way? These folks have designs not only on a reinvention of America, but on the whole world. Both Democrat candidates for the presidency have plans for an American cure for global poverty that make our current, quite generous, foreign aid look like a tiny Band-Aid. Hillary's utopian plan is of a global village, where the role of America is that of supreme benefactor, with herself as our beneficent queen.  Hillary's plans for the redistribution of American wealth extend benefits not just to other Americans, but to every other country in need. Obama, too, sees global poverty as the root cause of all evil in the world, including crime, war and terrorism.  His single piece of signature legislation in the Senate is a bill that would authorize an additional $845 billion from American tax payers to eradicate global poverty, and legislate a demand on future presidents to bring America in line with UN mandates on percentage of national GDP given to fight global poverty. These plans are in perfect sync with Soros' own support for the Tobin Tax, a global tax on currency transactions.  This taxation would be forced on sovereign nations by an international body, coercing capitalist economies into sharing their wealth with poor nations for the eradication of poverty and the myriad problems associated with it. So, that which we and our ancestors have sacrificed to build and maintain will be stolen from us and our offspring and given away by the new Robin Hoods, George Soros and the Democratic Party, who seem to envision global perfection at last, with every single soul living happily ever after in absolute peace and harmony, together singing kumbaya in the same language...the language of love. And only God knows what can save America from being the sacrificial fodder for their grand, megalomaniacal delusion. Saner heads prevailing, perhaps? Memorandum for the President”, was sent by then-US Secretary of State Colin Powell to President Bush on March 28, 2002, a week before Bush’s summit with Blair at his Crawford ranch in Texas, Britain’s Daily Mail reported on Sunday. The sensational memo revealed that Blair had agreed to support the war a year before the invasion even started, while publicly the British prime minister was working to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. The document also disclosed that Blair agreed to act as a spin doctor for Bush and convince a skeptical public that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction, which actually did not exist. In response, Bush would flatter Blair and give the impression that London was not Washington’s poodle but an equal partner in the “special relationship.” Powell told Bush that Blair “will be with us” on the Iraq war, and assured the president that “"the UK will follow our lead in the Middle East."  In November 2002, US President George W. Blair has always denied the claim that he and Bush signed a deal “in blood” at Crawford to launch a war against Iraq that began on March 20, 2003, that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. The Powell memo, however, showed how Blair and Bush secretly prepared the Iraq war plot behind closed doors at Crawford. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and their legal advisers Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee and John Yoo were tried in absentia in Malaysia. The trial held in Kuala Lumpur heard harrowing witness accounts from victims of torture who suffered at the hands of US soldiers and contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan. They included testimony from British man Moazzam Begg, an ex-Guantanamo detainee and Iraqi woman Jameelah Abbas Hameedi who was tortured in the notorious Abu Ghraib prison. At the end of the week-long hearing, the five-panel tribunal unanimously delivered guilty verdicts against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their key legal advisors who were all convicted as war criminals for torture and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment. Full transcripts of the charges, witness statements and other relevant material will now be sent to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as well as the United Nations and the Security Council. The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission is also asking that the names of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Yoo, Bybee, Addington and Haynes be entered and included in the Commission’s Register of War Criminals for public record. The tribunal is the initiative of Malaysia’s retired Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who staunchly opposed the American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. EXTRACTS In Kuala Lumpur, after two years of investigation by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission (KLWCC), a tribunal (the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal, or KLWCT) consisting of five judges with judicial and academic backgrounds reached a unanimous verdict that found George W Bush and Tony Blair guilty of crimes against peace, crimes against humanity, and genocide as a result of their roles in the Iraq War. The proceedings took place over a four-day period from November 19-22, and included an opportunity for court-appointed defense counsel to offer the tribunal arguments and evidence on behalf of the absent defendants. They had been invited to offer their own defense or send a representative, but declined to do so. ... Universal jurisdiction The KLWCT did not occur entirely in a jurisprudential vacuum. It has long been acknowledged that domestic criminal courts can exercise universal jurisdiction for crimes of state wherever these may occur, although usually only if the accused individuals are physically present in the court. The underlying legal theory is based on the recognition of the limited capacity of international criminal trials to impose accountability in a manner that is not entirely dictated by geopolitical priorities and reflective of a logic of impunity. In this regard, universal jurisdiction has the potential to treat equals equally, and is very threatening to the Kissingers and Rumsfelds of this world, who have curtailed their travel schedules. The United States and Israel have used their diplomatic leverage to roll back universal jurisdiction authority in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Belgium. "War must be outlawed. That will have to be our struggle for now. We must struggle for justice and freedom from oppression, from economic hegemony. But we must remove the threat of war first. With this sword of Damocles hanging over our heads we can never succeed in advancing the interests of our countries.  War must therefore be made illegal. The enforcement of this must be by multilateral forces under the control of the United Nations. No single nation should be allowed to police the world, least of all to decide what action to take, [and] when." Mahathir Mohamed anti-war speech of February 24, 2003 ... In his 2007 statement, Mahathir promised that a future KLWCT would not, in his words, be "like the 'kangaroo court' that tried Saddam". Truly, the courtroom proceedings against Saddam Hussein was a sham trial excluding much relevant evidence, disallowing any meaningful defense, and culminating in a grotesque and discrediting execution.  ... FULL AT SOURCE http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2011/11/20111128105712109215.html ---------------------- ꕤ ---------------------- COMMENT When you don't know what's going on, the conviction for war crimes in absentia sounds vaguely amusing -- as if the Malaysians were off their heads and had gone rogue in deciding to convict such fine and upstanding Americans (and Blair) for war crimes. It's only down the track that you learn that, yes, there really is grounds for such an outlandish-sounding conviction, as there is a convention against torture and against waging wars of aggression. Yes, people were tortured and, yes, the Iraq invasion was illegal and was launched on false pretexts (WMDs). So these government representatives are totally bent and criminal in their actions. And, as time progresses, more information comes out supporting that ugly fact.  The latest is just more confirmation that these people and their governments really are criminals. Germans were tried by the victors at Nuremberg and hanged for war crimes. But there won't be any such trials for the Anglo-American war criminals. ________________ Wonder if those Clinton e-mails were meant to come out, to maybe influence elections.  As in, Bush is Republican and Clinton is Democrat.  So creating a situation (private server) where this information would be released could maybe have been deliberate to advantage the Democrats, I'm thinking. OK, so, a sort of feeling for what we're doing.  What is the impact?  Not on individual nation states, but the impact in the media. This is something you can measure a little bit.  Other stuff's a bit harder. And I’ll go into examples. But, we have caused the publication, or reprinting, of about 40,000 articles, based on our content, in websites that are listed by Google News. So that’s most, but not all, of the mainstream press. [Just yesterday, I] looked on Google Books search. There’s about 40 something books -- Google books. That doesn’t cover most book publishers, so about 40 to 100 books have, in part, been catalysed as a result of material we have released. Google hits: WikiLeaks, presently about 670,000. Our four Malaysians here, in comparison: Malaysia Insider has about 46,000. And blog references are 92,000. Now, guys.  I’ve been censored. [audience laughter] Speaking of which, in this crisis that is occurring in the United States with journalists: a journalist who is fired is one hundred per cent censored. [Thanks. OK.] So this map is by Freedom House, this is the global press freedom index for 2007, the green is what -- Freedom House is an independently funded -- OK, Freedom House is an independently funded arm of the United States government. So, it does have a little bit of a bias, but it also has some good people. So, within the US prism of how it looks on the world, this is an accurate map. So, green for the so-called 'free press countries.' Yellow, for partly free (that includes Malaysia). And grey*, not free. So you see, in fact, even according to Freedom House, most of the world is not free from censorship. Now, of course, from my -- you’ll hear from the stories I’ll tell you, that this green is a complete illusion. An entire illusion. What has happened is that there has been a privatisation of censorship in the green countries. It’s no longer direct state censorship, most of the time, it’s censorship on behalf of private organisations through the courts, and the courts are run by the states. So it’s an indirect form of state censorship when you [...] a major institute privatised [...] the major institutions of your country. How many people here have ever gone to the front page of the website? May I see some hands? How many people haven’t? OK, so this section is not completely useless. So, this is what you will see if you go to the front page of the website: This is WikiLeaks. We help getting the truth out. If you then scroll down you’ll see on the right-hand side recent material that we have released, or that has been censored and we have uncensored it. On the left-hand side, is news reports that have been caused by the material on the right-hand side, so information catalysed in the mainstream press. Sometimes including press, and sometimes articles that we have written ourselves -- if no one else is picking it up. [00:05:01] OK, so, just looking at something recent, we released this week. The UK MoD Manual of Security Volume 1,2 & 3, Issue 2 -- 2,389 pages -- all classified. So, this manual is interesting. Not -- I mean, you guys are probably interested in security. But it’s interesting for another reason, because it shows that the corruption -- the moral corruption inside the UK military -- is documented. This manual refers to investigative journalists about 13 times. What are the biggest threats, the biggest leaking threats? The kind of security threat, is what military security is really concerned about: is information being disclosed. Their biggest threats is not the Russians, is not the Chinese; it's investigative journalists. And why are they concerned about it? Because it might embarrass the government, or might embarrass their departments. OK. So, now, looking on the other column, you can see mainstream press that has picked this up. This was front page of the Telegraph earlier this week, a newspaper in the UK. MoD how to stop leaks. Document is leaked. But I encourage you to read all the 2,389 pages and don’t just rely on the Telegraph story, because you'll get a very different perspective. So you can follow the link to the Telegraph. There it is. And how do people tend to use the site? Journalists tend to use the site on a day-to-day basis. Well, in fact, nearly all the stories we catalyse we do not have time to cut and paste and stick in here, it’s just impossible. So, to some degree we are victim of our own success, although I should say the project is very embryonic. We're two years in, but I think we're only 10% in to what we're trying to achieve. So, yes, it has been quite successful. But we are very embryonic. It's still a proof of concept. It’s showing a lot of good effect, but there’s still a lot of work to do. So, you will notice here. So, to catalyse a point -- you can have a look at news, blogs, and twitter -- so this is where in fact you will find most of the media pick up. And this is from earlier today, and you can see there tends to be something every few hours catalysed in the mainstream press, based upon what we have released. This is blogs. This is the best blogs search, by the way, is IceRocket. And this is Twitter. Often you’ll see stuff here before you see it in the mainstream press. People are just starting to [...] And, OK, there’s one more: PressDisplay as well. This is actually a big organization that scans the front pages and pages of newspapers across the world and puts them online. They charge you to actually buy chunks, but you get one, or something, a day free. And so you can see this is what has been happening this week [...] in relation to events in relation to the Telegraph, MoD. And sometimes we will write our own material. So this MoD document looked at getting travel advice to UK spies about going to China and Russia, what do they need to look out for when they are in those countries.
