However, what is as interesting as the current eruption of public outrage, is that this is not the standard gang rape by refugee of a native woman or girl:  it appears that the accused are three Norwegian men (who would pass, to a non-Norwegian, as native Norwegians.  However, they may well have some other ancestry buried some distance along the family tree). It did leave me wondering if this case was permitted to become a high profile case catalyst for needed change, due to: (a) the fact that the accused would pass for Norwegians (AND THEREFORE ARE NOT PART OF PROTECTED GROUPS and are considered 'FAIR GAME' for public outrage, public activism and so on -- MAKING THEM NORWEGIAN SCAPEGOATS); (b) the PR (perception manipulation) value to the establishment in using this case to deflect attention from the usual suspects; and (c) simply because there is a need for sentence reform in Norway -- which I believe there may be, as the sentencing in Norway (if I recall correctly), is fairly limited or minimal, even for horrific multiple offender rapes. Anyway, this development is very interesting to me from a political angle (and, no, I'm not defending the accused).
