Who's preaching world democracy, democracy, democracy? —Who wants to make free people free?
Currently, there is a huge public outcry and public demonstrations in several cities and before Norwegian parliament, following a lenient sentence of an alleged drugging and gang rape of a 17 year old in 2014.
However, what is as interesting as the current eruption of public outrage, is that this is not the standard gang rape by refugee of a native woman or girl: it appears that the accused are three Norwegian men (who would pass, to a non-Norwegian, as native Norwegians. However, they may well have some other ancestry buried some distance along the family tree).
It did leave me wondering if this case was permitted to become a high profile case catalyst for needed change, due to:
(a) the fact that the accused would pass for Norwegians (AND THEREFORE ARE NOT PART OF PROTECTED GROUPS and are considered 'FAIR GAME' for public outrage, public activism and so on -- MAKING THEM NORWEGIAN SCAPEGOATS);
(b) the PR (perception manipulation) value to the establishment in using this case to deflect attention from the usual suspects; and
(c) simply because there is a need for sentence reform in Norway -- which I believe there may be, as the sentencing in Norway (if I recall correctly), is fairly limited or minimal, even for horrific multiple offender rapes.
Anyway, this development is very interesting to me from a political angle (and, no, I'm not defending the accused).

Yes, it would appear that some may do. And, yes, I am shocked and disgusted whenever there is an crime of this kind reported as committed by what are supposed to be civilised men. However, I am also aware that this is, thankfully, not nearly as common among white Western men as it is among other demographics: as in, it is not a common identifiable pattern of behaviour among a large proportion white Western men.
Reports on this type of crime point to an overwhelmingly large and disproportionate representation of rape and gang-rape sex assaults among the alien demographic of countries that have exposed their populations to non-European mass immigration.

But we have had cases which illustrate a clash of cultures that disturbs a small minority of immigrants has proved so traumatic to a number of Norwegian women. Libyan masters student Almahde Ahmad Atagore, 28, was this morning jailed for at least three years over the assaults in August and September last year.

Something is wrong with the '1 in 4' sex offences report. It's too low in my opinion, judging by the pattern of behaviour in the demographic; which demographic is probably higher than the reported 16.3% of the population of what is left of Norway.

In Norway, The New York Times recently reported on government-funded classes being held for asylum seekers. The classes are being held in an effort to teach men new to the country that rape is wrong and unacceptable in their new culture.
“ ‘The goal is that participants will ‘at least know the difference between right and wrong,’ said Nina Machibya, the Sandnes center’s manager,” the paper reported. “A course manual sets out a simple rule that all asylum seekers need to learn and follow: ‘To force someone into sex is not permitted in Norway, even when you are married to that person.’ ”
As I’ve said before, if you have to educate an entire influx of Muslim men about how rape is wrong, you probably shouldn’t be letting them into your country at all.
Although the horrors and unintended consequences of allowing hordes of young men who come from countries where rape is acceptable are just now being realized by Europe and other parts of the western world, this has been going on and tolerated not just for months but for years.

MK Yoav Kisch introduces a bill that aims to curtail nongovernmental organizations funded mostly by foreign governments, as they "represent foreign political interests," use funds to promote anti-Israel propaganda • "We have to put a stop to it," he says.

Likud MK Yoav Kisch on Sunday introduced a legislation proposal seeking to label nongovernmental organizations operating in Israel while receiving the majority of their funding from foreign governments as "plants" or "agents" of the governments funding them.
The bill seeks to impose stricter record keeping and reporting guideline on such NGOs, and bar them from fostering collaborations with government ministries and the military, unless specifically authorized by the Justice Ministry.
The bill's abstract further says the legislation seeks to allow both the "proper authorities and the public with tools to counter the erosion of democracy and the promotion of and internal delegitimization of the State of Israel, funded by foreign political entities."
The proposal suggests any infringement by NGOs on the new guidelines will incur a 100,000 shekel ($26,000) fine, and that should any group be linked "to hostile activities, the Registrar of Associations will be able to petition the court for its dissolution."
Kisch's legislation proposal states, "There are various associations operating in the State of Israel that receive support and funding from foreign political entities, making them 'plants' in the midst of Israeli society. These groupers effectively represent foreign political interests, as he who has the money has the final say.
"There is a clear phenomenon in Israel by which these foreign interests undermine Israel's ability to defend itself and/or jeopardizes its Jewish and democratic character. While these associations promote foreign interests they still qualify for various exemptions, despite the fact the Israeli public is harmed, directly, by their actions," the bill said.
"A democracy has to be able to defend itself," Kisch explained. "It's inconceivable that foreign-funded NGOs use those funds to spread lies and anti-Israel propaganda worldwide.
"We will not allow foreign funding of this nature to attack Israeli soldiers, urge boycotts against Israel, and supporting terrorism or enemy statesunder the guise of a legitimate Israeli association. We have to put a stop to it," he said.
The controversial non-profit bill that got the backing of a ministerial panel on Sunday will remain a subject of heated debate but is expected to pass in some form.

A bill that would require non-profit organizations that get more than half their funding from foreign governments to disclose that in various contexts passed a major legislative hurdle on Sunday. It received the backing of the Ministerial Committee for Legislation. Approval by the committee means that it now has the backing of the governing coalition, making it likely that it will pass in some form, although it could be subject to changes before final passage.
Sponsored byJustice Minister Ayelet Shaked of the Habayit Hayehudi party, the bill is widely seen as an effort to draw attention to left-wing organizations that get funding from foreign governments. The activities of left-wing organizations have been in the headlines recently in part over funding some of them receive from foreign governments, notably European ones, a situation that critics call an improper effort by the governments to influence the Israeli public agenda. Opponents of the legislation call it an anti-democraticattempt to stigmatize left-wing groups and point out that right-wing Israeli non-profit organizations also get substantial funding from abroad, although that money is not from foreign governments, coming instead from individual donors abroad, notably from Diaspora Jewish donors.
As currently drafted, the bill proposed by Shaked would require representatives of organizations receiving over half their support from foreign governments to wear tags with the name and the group they represent when they attend Knesset sessions,as is currently required of Knesset lobbyists. Violations of the law would be punished by barring the representatives' access to the Knesset. The bill would also require the groups to disclose in their official publicity that they get more than half their funds from foreign governments, along with disclosing the donor governments by name. Violations of this provision would be subject to a 29,000 shekel ($7,450) fine.
"Any country wishing to protect its sovereignty must put limits on intervention by foreign entities,"Shaked said, adding that false information spread by non-profit groups "pretending to represent Israel's interests but which actually are financed by foreign countries that exploit these groups to suit their agenda" constitute a weapon directed against Israel.
But for his part, Zionist Union party leader Isaac Herzogcalled the bill "a serious stain on democracy," while his party colleague Nachman Shai warned that it would provide "ammunition to those calling for Israel's isolation."
At the beginning of the month, four senior lawmakers from Germany warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that advancement of the legislation would make it harder for Israel's allies in Germany to aid it in the face of boycotts or attempts to delegitimize it.
Tzipi Livni, who is co-leader of the Zionist Union along with Herzog, has submitted her own bill that would require disclosure by non-profits that get sizeable foreign government support but also require groups that depend upon individual donors from abroad to disclose it, in practice also imposing legislative regulation on right-wing groups. Justice Minister Shaked's office said including recipients of contributions from individual donors from abroad was considered but was not pursued because of legal hurdles that it presented.
Im Tirtzu vs. Breaking the Silence
The right-wing political group Im Tirtzu recently made headlines for a video it released stigmatizing leaders of left-wing organizations that it said received substantial foreign government funding as foreign "moles."
Breaking the Silence, a group founded by Israel Defense Force veterans to expose misconduct by the Israeli army in the territories, has been a particular focus of public criticism. Representatives of the group have been barred by Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon from sending representatives onto army bases and by Education Minister Naftali Bennett from appearing in the country's public schools. The Breaking the Silence website states that among the financial support that it receives are funds from the governments of Norway, Spain and Switzerland as well as a number of foreign private foundations.
Prior to the vote in the ministerial committee, Michael Oren, who is a former Israeli ambassador to the United States and is now member of the Knesset from the Kulanu party, which is a part of the governing coalition, said he could not vote in favor of the bill as currently drafted.
"As someone who has worked his entire life to advance the State of Israel's foreign affairs, my conscience does not allow me to vote for the non-profits bill as it is drafted today." Oren said. "The non-profits bill that is reaching a vote at the Ministerial Committee for Legislation today is a bill that could harm Israel's foreign relations and image," he added. "I have no doubt that left-wing non-profits such as Breaking the Silence are working to undermine the legitimacy of the State of Israel, and it is our duty as lawmakers to reveal their funding sources to the public. But such one-sided exposure, which ignores the funding sources of extreme-right non-profits, might play exactly into the hands of those elements that are trying to boycott us," Oren said.

COMMENT
The above video clip of Palestinians being beaten by Israeli soldiers is pretty sickening to watch. After the initial viewing, I couldn't view again.
I've seen other things (eg. IDF soldiers beating up an old Palestinian man about to have his house demolished, and an IDF soldier striking an old woman), so it's not like this is an aberration. And the bet is that what I've seen is just a fraction of the brutality.
Also, I tend to avoid looking at what is happening in territories occupied by Israel, because I can't handle the dissonance. The image I have of Israel is of its ancient history, its Temple, its songs and things that are pleasant ... seeing old people getting beaten ruins that.
It's very unpleasant to see this kind of brutality, and it's impossible not to be appalled and sorry for the Palestinians that are being mistreated.
Norway, Spain or Switzerland government funding of Israeli NGOs is far less of a potential 'de-legitimiser' of Israel than what the IDF have been caught doing to civilians in Palestine.
For a country that has so many pro-Israel interest groups abroad lobbying other governments on its behalf, and for a country whose organisations are involved in, basically, a program of indoctrinating Western journalists and politicians by hosting 'educational' visits to Israel (including an Israeli hospital where Israel's been patching up Syrian 'rebels' - ie anti-Syrian government Islamists), it's somewhat hypocritical of Israel to put up barriers to NGOs that receive funding from other government organisations (while shielding Israel's right-wing NGOs from being subject to the similar measures).
But Israel can always be counted on to do the rational thing: ie. to act in its own interests and in pursuit of its own aims.
In an ideal world, this is how one handles foreign interests potentially asserting influence on internal affairs, and this is how one handles fifth column elements within one's state.
But, as mentioned in the article, this will be something the BDS campaigners might wish to exploit, especially considering Israel's strong reliance on representing itself as a democracy.
I highly doubt that the governments of Norway, Spain and Switzerland are actually seeking to undermine or de-legitimise Israel in any way, but the intention isn't relevant if the result is seen as the undermining of Israel's interests and aims.
This is a brilliant move on Israel's part to de-legitimise, diminish and silence leftist internal critics -- particularly critics of Israel's military (and occupation territory settlements, I'm guessing).

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.
“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter.
Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.
"With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.
An audio recording of some of the rabbi’s remarks was broadcast on Israel’s Channel 10.
Cartoon in Norwegian daily foments anti-Israel feelings, embassy diplomat says

(JTA) — Israel has called on a Norwegian daily newspaper to apologize for a cartoon that equates Israel with Nazi Germany and North Korea.
The cartoon appeared on Sept. 24 in the daily newspaper Dagbladet. In a letter to the editor published on Tuesday, Dan Poraz, first secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Oslo, called the cartoon “reprehensible and thoughtless.”
“There is a fine line between freedom of speech and hate speech, and this cartoon crossed that line. It’s about time that editors take responsibility. An apology may be a suitable way to start,” Poraz wrote.
“This is damaging because it can incite anti-Israeli bias that can lead to violent reactions,” he said.
The cartoon was reproduced with the letter.
The cartoon shows a woman standing in front of an organic food store holding an orange and saying: “These oranges come from Israel! You are supporting murderers!” The next panel shows her holding a box and saying: holding a carton: “This macaroni is produced in North Korea!? How did you even get a hold of these??” The final panel shows her holding a box of frozen pizza marked with a swastika, with a “Made in Nazi Germany” label, and says: “And this pizza is from N… what kind of store is this??”
Dagbladet’s editor has refused to apologize, saying Israel’s reaction is exaggerated, Ynet reported.
Cartoonist Ola Lysgaard told The Local – Norway that people missed the point of the cartoon, but did not elaborate.

Thursday 24. September published Dagbladet one reprehensible and thoughtless cartoon since it puts Israel in the same category as Nazi Germany and North Korea. A comparison with democracy Israel who fight for security for its citizens, alongside unstable and violent dictatorships.
Comic Strip is also incorrect and offensive because it suggests that Israeli products are "unethical" and that by buying these supports "murderers."
This is detrimental because it may incite anti-Israeli bias which can result in violent reactions.
There must be a boundary between "free speech" and "hatretorikk."

Even before this assimilation, the original rite of many Jewish Oriental communities was already closer to the Sephardi rite than to the Ashkenazi rite.
"Sephardim" has come to mean not only "Spanish Jews" proper but "Jews of the Spanish rite", just as "Ashkenazim" is used for "Jews of the German rite", whether or not their families originate in Germany.
Sephardic Jews exiled from Spain

Israel - conflation of terms
"Sephardi" is used in a broad sense to include Mizrahi Jews and Maghrebi Jews as well as Sephardim proper.
Sephardic rite make up more than half of Israel's Jewish population, and Mizrahi Jews proper are a major part of them.

This post evolved after stumbling on Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's remarks about non-Jews, which I found deeply offensive.
It is particularly offensive considering the various support and protections Israel received, and continues to receive, from non-Jewish 'donkey' nations.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was the founder of Shas political party and was chief Sephardic rabbi, and thus spiritual leader of Sephardic Israel, which is most of the population of Israel (judging by demographics particulars of Israel, above).
From an outsider's point of view, Rabbi Yosef (and religious leaders such as this) are Israel's equivalent of an Ayatollah. Likewise, Jewish religious law, which is partially incorporated by the Jewish state, appears to be the Jewish equivalent of 'sharia.' But I guess the similarities shouldn't be surprising, when these beliefs sprang from the same Middle-Eastern peoples, who must have shared many of the same customs.
If this is the mindset of a learned religious, political, and spiritual leader of Israelis (or a large portion of them), steeped in centuries-old study, knowledge and tradition, passed down for thousands of years, it's not hard to see this statement as likely being representative of a common Jewish attitude to people outside of (what now appears to be) this multi-ethnic religious 'tribe' of sorts, that's fixated on Jewish political and religious renaissance (and dominance), in the former territory of ancient Judea.
For all the knowledge, tradition and laws passed down over thousands of years, and for all the religious superiority and piety of Shas members, it's hilarious to find Shas members have been convicted of various crimes.
It's quite sobering also, when you consider how religion (which, in my view, is just another form of politics) is held up, revered, protected, permitted wide influence, and, ultimately, exploited.
While an Israeli spiritual leader holds such an ugly (and, in my view, unnatural view) of people not of their political/religious persuasion, Israel becoming the butt of cartoon humour in Norway, for Israel's treatment of Palestinians, is perceived and treated as 'hate speech', and apology and censorship is sought by a representative of Israel.
In this topsy-turvy world, Israel (the oppressor of displaced Palestinian people) is the 'victim' of 'hate,' and political humour (and presumably rebuke of Israel's actions) -- amounting to fair political comment -- is redefined as 'hate speech.'
Meanwhile, the actions that provoked such political cartoon humour and rebuke remaininsignificant background details, as Israel raises the prospect of provocation of anti-Semitism / anti-Semitic violence (the resulting Israeli 'shield'), in an attempt to silence Israel's political critics.
It amounts to demanding that everybody turn a blind eye and remain silent witnesses to Israeli abuses, while criticism of Israel's actions is redefined as 'hate speech.' The spectre of potential anti-Semitic attack is invoked as leverage, by an aggressor (Israel) who demands silence and shifts blame for the prospect of attack (were it to occur). Blame that Israel transfers to the bystander/witness/messenger (ie those that may speak up against what they see as Israeli injustice, oppression and violence toward a displaced people etc), while Israel deflects responsibility/blame for any undesirable responses that may possibly attach to Israel's actions (rather than attach to the mere observation or comment re those actions), as Israel is catalyst/agent of potentially provocative actions (and not the observer or critic).
I'm not invested in what happens in the Middle East, so I really don't care who ultimately gains control of a small tract of land and prevails in terms of assertion of identity and ethnic/national continuity attached to land, so (I think) I can see how both sides might see the contest.
But I do think that seeking to repress freedom of speech, freedom of expression and political freedom, is as detrimental to wider society and as it is self-serving for those that wish to silence others -- whoever the instigator of such censorship.
As for 'hate speech,' I would consider Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's remarks about non-Jews a prime example of speech tantamount to conveying an irrational hatred of the other, but I certainly wouldn't seek to limit the right to such expression.
Rabbi Yosef versus Ayatollah is kind of funny to see.
To me, these religious figures are similar and it looks like they want the same things: the religion, religious laws, religious state, religious fanaticism ... and desire for the destruction of one another's religious state.
But the Iranian Ayatollah isn't as hateful to outsiders.
Yes, the Americans are referred to as 'the Great Satan' ... lol ... but the title is well-deserved, when you consider decades of invasions, coups (including the Iran 1953 coup), fostering domestic discord and revolutions, support of murderous dictators, arming terrorists, proxy wars, wars, carpet bombing, atomic bombing, torture, kidnap, assassinations, extra-judicial drone killings, murder of civilians, etc etc, conducted by the American Mercantile Empire all around the world.
As far as I'm aware, there's been no Ayatollah pronouncement of outsiders as 'donkeys' and, basically, slaves of Iran ... so the Iranian Ayatollah doesn't seem as 'crazy' or as 'dangerous' as he's portrayed.
Considering all the above, I'm inclined to back-flip and conclude that Israel having nukes is maybe a more frightening prospect than Iran having like capabilities.
