However, a recent report in the Star reveals that police are still making requests for subscriber data without a warrant, though the number of requests has dropped significantly.Rogers’ transparency report revealed the government made nearly 175,000 requests for subscriber data to the company last year, or about 480 per day. Telus’ transparency report, released last week, found the company got 103,500 requests last year, or about 283 per day. US & GCHQ spy on everyone

Only an extract. Link to article for full.
Found this interesting because I didn't know the US spied on Mexico or that the G20 delegates got spied on by GCHQ.

JOHN McCAIN'S BIG MOUTH
Republican Senator John McCain calls for Vladimir Putin to be banned from G20
|
McCain's a big mouth.
Calling for Obama to arm the Ukraine government ... with McCain's buddies' weapons by any chance?
Send McCain over to Russia to sort it out with Putin.
As for SMH, what are they, a US propaganda sheet trumpeting what the likes of big-mouth McCain jerk off to in senate?
All the sheeple will read this and take it as gospel. LOL

So where's the stories?
No surprise if McCain's patting little Tony Abbott's back and vilifying Putin.
Wonder if Tony Abbott makes any decisions based on Australian interests and initiatives -- or is Abbott and his Liberal government just an extension of corporate America and its politics?

The more I read the more I'm convinced this is a set up.
Evidence?
I'm unlikely to believe any evidence that lot comes up with.
Anyone could have shot it down.
Right now there's a fear that arming those in Syria (I think it was), might result in the other side getting their hands on weapons.
Well, who is to say which side had the weapons in the Ukraine and who ultimately fired?
It's just more of the same drama that's been played out worldwide for how long now?
I don't believe anything the US lot are involved in:
If there's protesters, they can expect to have the living crap beaten out of them.
Downing of Malaysian plane 'unspeakable crime' if proven: Australia's Abbott
By Jane Wardell
SYDNEY Thu Jul 17, 2014 6:24pm EDT
(Reuters) - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that if the downing of a Malaysian airliner over eastern Ukraine was a deliberate act, then "it is an unspeakable crime" and the perpetrators must be swiftly brought to justice.
Abbott said on Friday that he believed at least 23 Australians were on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
Abbott was speaking shortly after the European head of Malaysia Airlines said at least 27 Australians were among the 295 passengers on the flight.
If the numbers are confirmed, Australians would represent the second-largest national grouping, behind the Dutch, on the plane that crashed on Thursday.
"It is a very, very sad time, made worse by reports that it might be a crime rather than an accident," Abbott said.
Ukrainian authorities have accused "terrorists" - militants fighting to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia - of shooting down the Boeing 777-200. The rebels denied responsibility.
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said the downing of the airliner apparently was "not an accident" and that it was "blown out of the sky". "If it does turn out that this aircraft was brought down by a surface to air missile, there is no doubt that this would be, under those circumstances, an unspeakable crime and the perpetrators should swiftly be brought to justice," Abbott said.
Abbott declined to be drawn on the reason for the crash, saying all reports remained unconfirmed.
"We just have all sorts of reports and claims flying around," he said. "That's all we have at the moment, reports and claims."
Abbott said he planned to speak with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak later on Friday and that Australia would deploy staff to Kiev to assist in an investigation.
Asked if he would still welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin to Australia for the G20 Leaders Summit later this year if Russia were proved to be behind the accident, Abbott hinted there may be repercussions.
"That's a fair question, let's just wait and see exactly what turns out to have happened here," he said.
"But obviously, it is the clear and settled decision of the Australian government that larger countries should not bully smaller ones, that countries should not aid people who are in rebellion against their own government and that international disputes should be settled peacefully in accordance with international law."

Murdoch tells G20 governments to take a back seat for growth-------------------------------------------------
By Jane Wardell | Reuters – 15 minutes ago
By Jane Wardell
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Media mogul Rupert Murdoch ... criticised excessive financial regulation as stymieing free markets and urged Group of 20 governments to "take a back seat" to allow businesses to drive economic growth.
Murdoch also said U.S. President Barack Obama was penalising businesses by cracking down on so-called "profit shifting" by major corporations to countries with lighter tax regimes, a technique that is also in the sights of the G20.
"My blood pressure goes up when I think of the number of local, state and federal regulations we have in our lives today," Murdoch told a meeting of the Business 20 leaders in Sydney...
"That is just in America. Don't even get me started on the European Union."
The B20 was set up in 2010 to give policy recommendations on behalf of the international business community to the G20. Business leaders meeting here are looking to influence the outcome of the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane in November.
"I believe that business does have a role in shaping public policy, mainly in helping limit the size and scope of government," Murdoch said.
"... too much red tape, too many subservient politicians stifling economic growth and entrepreneurism."
...G20 is tackling corporate "profit shifting", which has allowed multinationals such as Starbucks Corp, Google Inc, Apple Inc and Amazon.com Inc to avoid paying taxes.
G20 finance ministers ... endorsed a set of common standards for sharing bank account information across borders, with automatic exchange of information among G20 members to take effect by the end of 2015. [WORLDWIDE POLICE STATE???]
Obama ... proposed tightening restrictions on U.S. multinationals that shift their tax domiciles abroad ... Obama wants to raise the minimum level of foreign ownership in a newly inverted holding company to 50 percent from about 20 percent, making the deals more difficult to carry out.
"Do we really expect overseas companies to voluntarily bring profits back to be taxed at 35 to 40 percent in the United States, when the corporate tax rate in Ireland is 12.5 percent?" Murdoch said. "This is not the way to achieve economic growth."

Wider concerns
The G-20's transparency and accountability have been questioned by critics, who call attention to the absence of a formal charter and the fact that the most important G-20 meetings are closed-door.
The cost and extent of summit-related security is often a contentious issue in the hosting country... 2010, the Toronto G-20 summit sparked mass protests and rioting, leading to the largest mass arrest in Canadian history.
