CIA Propaganda - Selling War in Afghanistan

Summary
SOURCE
WikiLeaks

CIA PROPAGANDA EXPERTS
SELLING THE AFGHAN WAR
TO RELUCTANT PUBLIC IN ALLIED NATO COUNTRIES

‘ISAF Mission’ referred to in CIA propaganda strategy report
-- is basically NATO military intervention
& is therefore referred to as such in the summary below

CIA strategic communication analysis
-- ie amounts to a CIA Propaganda Assessment & Plan

Dated:  11 March 2010
___________________________________

The propaganda plan focuses on finding ways to sell NATO military intervention in Afghanistan to the French, German & other Western European publics
___________________________________
 SUMMARY / COMMENTS

NATO countries, in this case, primarily France & Germany
count on PUBLIC APATHY
to proceed with committing resources and troops
to NATO military action in Afghanistan

_______________

Oddly,  this ‘public apathy’ is  despite 80% *opposition*
of German & French public polled in late 2009

So one would think that until such public opinion is translated into street demonstrations and the like, such opposition will be taken as ‘public apathy’ and ignored by politicians
_______________

CIA warns that public hostility may be aroused by:

*military casualties
*civilian casualties

NOTE:  Dutch (Netherlands) government fell due to troop commitment to Afghanistan

CIA therefore also cautions that Dutch-style debate spill-over could result in the event of high casualties and could threaten other European maintenance/commitment to NATO military intervention in Afghanistan

Article - Netherlands govt collapse
Dutch government collapses after Labour withdrawal from coalition
Row over extension of Dutch troops' tour of duty in Afghanistan forces Labour out of Jan Peter Balkenende's ruling coalition

The Dutch government has collapsed over disagreements on whether or not to extend troop deployment in Afghanistan.

The prime minister, Jan Peter Balkenende, said the Labour party – the second-largest party in his ruling coalition – was quitting.

He tendered his government's resignation to Queen Beatrix, the Dutch ceremonial head of state, in a telephone call.

Balkenende has been weighing up a request from Nato for Dutch troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2010.

Just under 2,000 Dutch personnel have been serving in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, where 21 Dutch soldiers have been killed.

_______________

Public Apathy Permits Politicians to Ignore Voters

Afghan military intervention unimportant to the French and German public, therefore:

=  French and German leaders could disregard what opposition there was

=  could increase their troop contributions to NATO military intervention in Afghanistan

Result of public apathy as at March 2010:

-- Germany:  third highest troop level in Afghanistan
-- France:  fourth highest troop level in Afghanistan

*DESPITE OPPOSITION of 80% of German & French public polled in late 2009

_______________

That's a massive amount of opposition that the German and French governments are ignoring, presumably because it is not opposition mounted in the streets of those countries.
_______________

Same 2009 poll showed German and French public:

-- did not rank Afghanistan as a most urgent issue.
-- did not rank stabilising Afghanistan as a high priority issue.
-- did not see Afghanistan as a national problem.
-- saw Afghanistan military intervention as waste of public funds.

Therefore, propaganda must be tailored to EXPLOIT these public opinion factors.

CIA propaganda advice memo indicates that the European public viewing the issue of Afghanistan as a 'not our problem' which is interpreted that the existing deployment of troops to Afghanistan is not on the public radar.

CASUALTIES

The CIA propagandist plan concern is that:

Passive public opposition could be turned into active calls for withdrawal of troops if German troops, French troops or Afghanistan civilians are killed.

_______________

Which probably explains why:

1) the military hides figures of civilian dead.
2) the government discourages media focus on military dead, bodybags etc.
_______________
DOMESTIC POLITICS

Ongoing support for NATO military intervention is at risk at ELECTION TIME.

{ Comment:  therefore, one would think, anti-war campaigners might wish to especially concentrate their efforts in the lead up to elections, as election time appears to be a critical time to turn public opinion and to perhaps leverage wanted results from politicians }

CIA express concern re DOMINO EFFECT:

ie if the Dutch pull out due to domestic opposition, the French and the Germans may do likewise, citing the Dutch precedent.

{ Comment:  for anti-war campaigners, that would mean that if one country’s campaign is successful, there is a strong likelihood that such success may be followed up elsewhere, by setting of example for others to follow }

_______________
Propaganda Pre-empting Opposition
Between 2008 & 2010 (ie 2 year period)
France + Germany
took measures to pre-empt further opposition to Afghanistan military intervention
_______________

FRANCE

Following deaths of x10 French soldiers in late 2008,
Sarkozy called for a National Assembly
to give the appearance of debate & consent
Sarkozy's government won the vote
Sarkozy used that opportunity to then deploy a further 3,000 troops

Due to regional elections coming up March 2010,
Sarkozy's govt is at risk to any increase in casualties

______________
GERMANY
Kunduz Airstrike 2009

American F-15E fighter jet struck two *beached* / *stranded* fuel tankers reportedly captured by Taliban insurgents, in response to German call.

Over 90 civilians killed in US fighter attack.

German Col. Georg Klein relying on intelligence officer relying on sole informant.

Col. Georg Klein ordered that 500-pound GBU-38 bombs be dropped at 2:30am.

June 2010 Germany announced it would pay $5,000 to each of the families of over 100 civilian victims, as an ex gratia payment without admitting liability.

Former Afghan Commerce Minister Amin Farhang
described the $5,000—equivalent to about 20,000 Afghanis—as a "laughable" sum.

{Comment:  that sum’s an insult}

Germany
reclassified the Afghanistan deployment as an "armed conflict within the parameters of international law", allowing German forces to act without risk of prosecution under German law.

[Wikipedia]
------------------

Article - Kunduz
"Officially, the German deployment had been termed a "stabilization mission," which left many soldiers resentful that the full dangers of their mission were not appreciated back home."

February 11, 2010

http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/the-world-from-berlin-new-evaluation-on-afghanistan-long-overdue-a-677289.html

So the propaganda program was already in place in Germany, spinning the 'stabilisation mission' line for what is intensely contested occupation.

______________

Kunduz Airstrike of Sept 2009

killed high number of Afghan civilians
is described by the CIA as a 'potential pressure'
on the government

Germany also has vulnerability:  May 2010 regional elections

CIA advises on how the European public may be encouraged to swallow increased military casualties and/or increased civilian causalities:

ie can be done by linking 'outcomes' in Afghanistan with the voters' own priorities

Communication method to achieve this:

*propaganda program across NATO troop contributing nations
*consistency
*repetition
*linking to key concerns for particular national audiences

is the pre-emptive propaganda measure, to be relied upon to continue to support NATO military intervention in the event that the 2010 apathy concerning Afghanistan military intervention turns to active opposition & calls for withdrawal, as this propaganda will then shore up the politicians' ability to justify & support taxpayer expense and deployment of their nations' troops in Afghanistan.

{ Comment:  So it is propaganda to pave the way to giving politicians the excuse to carry on as they wish, even in the face of future opposition. }

THE PLAN

FRANCE

Exploit concerns for civilians & refugees

give examples of benefits to Afghan civilians
/ ie spin the Afghan civilian ‘benefits’
Choice of spin is based on results of public opinion polls.

2009 Public polls indicated:

1) those in support of Afghanistan military intervention, hold the view on basis that intervention is a 'help' to civilians;

2) those against Afghanistan military intervention, hold the view on the basis intervention is damaging to civilians.

Going by the 2009 polls, the CIA propaganda experts conclude that contradicting the perception that Afghanistan military intervention does more harm than good is important in France, particularly given the Muslim minority in France.

The plan is to cite a 2009 poll that indicates that a majority Afghans support foreign military intervention in their country.

Reason for this tactic:
This is important because a good percentage of the German and French public that was polled (and in opposition to the military intervention in Afghanistan) also believed that the Afghan public is opposed to foreign military intervention in Afghanistan.

Exploiting Public Guilt

In addition, the French can dramatise the potentially negative consequences of NATO defeat for Afghan civilians

Exploiting Cultural
Differences re Status of Women

eg by using the spectre of Taliban denying girls education

this is supposed to trigger secular French indignation give the public reason to support French military intervention in Afghanistan

-- ie  using propaganda to spin foreign military intervention in Afghanistan aims as a'good and necessary' cause so as to obtain public support, regardless of casualties

______________

COMMENT

Explains all that incongruous emphasis on women's rights and anti-rape campaigns pushed by the UN, the British government, the US government, and like organisations -- where the ditzy Hollywood celebrities front the propaganda sideshow in a perverse entertainment-politics ‘marriage’ with bald-headed neocon warmonger politicians
______________

Exploit Testimonials  / Personalise
Exploiting stories re the plight of refugees is highly recommended
(given media controversy that was whipped up re 2009 expulsion of 12 Afghan refugees)

{ Comment:  the same could be said of the ‘Refugee Crisis’ currently drummed up by Merkel and the media and used by politicians in an attempt to justify attack on Syria }
French were already involved in anti human trafficking efforts, so (according to the CIA propaganda memo), the French could be talked into supporting a NATO propaganda campaign along the lines that a NATO defeat could cause a refugee crisis.

______________

COMMENT
The irony is that military interventions are responsible for creating displacement and refugee problems, which Europe is currently awash with due to successive interventions of NATO and allies.
______________

GERMANY

2009 poll indicates German public opposition to war in Afghanistan was on the basis of:

- financial/resources waste reasons
- not a German issue
- objection in principle {pacifist public}

Ways to dampen German public opposition to NATO military intervention in Afghanistan

- demonstrating ‘progress on the ground'
- propaganda re consequences for Germany if NATO defeated in Afghanistan
- propaganda re value of German 'partnership' in the NATO-led intervention
- using propaganda about Afghanistan optimism re the military intervention's progress could challenge the waste of taxpayer money argument

{ Comment:  following government-associated broadcaster polls are never to be trusted (in my opinion) ...  }

Background ARD
ARD (broadcaster)
joint organisation of Germany's regional public-service broadcasters
founded in 1950 in West Germany
ARD - world's largest public broadcaster, with a budget of €6.3 billion & 23,000 employees
budget comes primarily from the licence fees every household, every company and even every public institution

ARD - operates many correspondents' offices in foreign cities, second only to BBC News {Comment:  BBC has been described as a ‘nest of spies’ by Iran, so it is not unreasonable to conclude ARD would be a like German organisation}

Since 1960 it ARD been operated by the German federal government
[Propaganda & Mass Persuasion, Cull, Cullbert & Welch - pg 333]

ABC/BBC/ADR

These polls *supposedly* indicated a high level of Afghan support for foreign military invasion in their country, on the basis of belief in pending improvement of conditions.
{Comment:  lol ... anyone actually believe that?  Who did they poll, US payrolled dissidents? }

Meanwhile, there were equally high levels of German pessimism re ‘stabilising Afghanistan’

Propaganda plan is to stress this 'high optimism' attributed to Afghanistan public

To counter the 'not our problem' attitude of the German public, the following propaganda is called for:

messaging that indicates NATO defeat in Afghanistan could equal exposure to terrorism, opium, refugees in Germany
______________

Irony

This is the *exact* result of German *INTERVENTION* abroad -- it creates an explosion of displaced & therefore refugees, that Germany (& Europe) is now imposing on the German public.

Currently Germany (& Europe) is hosting unprecedented levels of (unvetted) refugees and economic immigrants, passed off by the media as 'Syrian refugees' --  80% of whom are from countries other than Syria -- countries that have been targets of US & allied military destruction.

Thus Germany has in fact opened itself up to ADDITIONAL financial burden; extensive, ongoing, and irreconcilable social burden; significant threat and likelihood of internal violence and terrorism; probable drug importation given the high probablility of internal links (refugee influx) to external sources of opium.

All these ADDITIONAL costs of war to Germany are imposed on German taxpayers, alongside the refugee problem Germany has taken onboard on behalf of its imperialist American 'partner'.
______________

For Germany, propaganda strategy is to spin and emphasise NATO intervention's 'multilateral' and 'humanitarian' propaganda angles

1990s Germans supported NATO attack on Balkans
as a show of 'commitment' to NATO allies

German point of weakness is the desire to help / co-operate.

The 'helping allies' rationale is the major reason for German public support of NATO military intervention in Afghanistan (in 2009 poll).

European worry about European standing in Washington is EXPLOITED by Washington -- as leverage for maintaining European contributions to the NATO military interventions.

eg.  Obama did not attend EU summit
/  places Europe in 'lesser position'
& results in European 'hand wringing' re this demotion

For some bizarre reason, the French and the German publics are deemed to have confidence in Obama's ability to handle foreign affairs

CIA indicates that this French & German public gullibility can be exploited by getting Obama to:

a) spout propaganda about the importance of NATO military intervention in Afghanistan; &

b) express disappointment in allies who do not help.

______________

LMAO ... ingenious.

That definitely hooks in the brainwashed Germans, who are all about goodness and light and hand-holding cooperation in the aftermath of decades of British and US subjugation and propaganda.  lol
______________

2009 poll showed that when citing the Obama *personal* request for Afghanistan deployments, support increased as follows:

=  4-15% French increase in support for 'yes'
=  7-13% German increase in support for 'yes'

______________

CIA says that although the total percentages are small, there is a public sensitivity to disappointing the plutocratic puppet President of the American empire

EXPLOITING AFGHAN WOMEN FOR WAR PROPAGANDA

idea is to use Afghan women to 'humanise' NATO military intervention in Afghanistan
/ as the symbols of NATO's noble role in combating Taliban.

Arrange media events conveying testimonials by Afghan women to broadcast to disproportionately female audiences.

EXPLOIT

*Afghan women speaking of experiences under Taliban
*Afghan women speaking of aspirations for the future
*Afghan women speaking of fears of Taliban victory

Hook up Afghan women and the media

Disseminate the pro Western/NATO intervention in Afghanistan propaganda
via media to the French, German and other European women

so as to get the women of Europe to come on-board with NATO military intervention in Afghanistan

This is especially important as polls indicate that

- 08% more French women than men are anti war

- 22% more German women than men are anti war

Barack Obama will deliver in a month the Medal of Honor to Captain Florent Groberg, 32, a French-born US soldier who distinguished himself for his courage in fighting in Kunar province, Afghanistan.

The "Medal of Honor", the highest American military award, distinguished, since 1863, an "act of heroism beyond duty." It is often awarded posthumously.

Deployed in Kunar province in 2009 and again in 2012, Captain Groberg has shown 8 August 2012 in Asadabad. In an interview with Army Times magazine, Groberg captain told how he came face-to-face with a man about to commit a terrorist attack - suicide, an explosive device attached to the torso.
"The only thing I thought was: I must away from myself, I have to get him away from everybody," he recounted, explaining how he had then thrown to the ground. "At that time, he lands on the ground, I look at it, and it explodes, it explodes right before my feet."
The blast left four people dead and many injured on the US side. But the intervention of Captain Groberg prevented the suicide bomber to activate his bomb when he had planned to do so and thus avoided a death toll much higher.

Florent Groberg was born in Poissy, near Paris, May 8, 1983. US citizenship in 2001, he was educated at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda. Recounting the phone call from US President informing him that he would receive the prestigious medal, Florent Gorberg evoked unforgettable: "It's not every day that one of the most influential men in the world calls you on your mobile. "

The discount will medal ceremony held November 12 at the White House.

Soros and Co. Harboring New 'Color Revolution'… This Time in Europe

Opinion
16:53 08.10.2015(updated 16:54 08.10.2015)

Europe will soon be destabilized just like the Middle East due to "George Soros and Co.'s" social-engineering efforts, independent Poland-based journalist and publicist Konrad Stachnio claims.

What does the future have in store for Europe? Fires, riots, toppled governments and total destabilization — more or less as has happened recently in Ukraine, independent Poland-based journalist and publicist Konrad Stachnio predicts.

"Every time I see the old, good George Soros saying something about democracy and European values, I know that something is going to happen. This is the case in Ukraine, when George argued that democracy is the most important thing and when he says that European values are most important and that is why we must accept million refugees every year. How will it end? Probably as usual: fires, riots, overthrowing governments and total destabilization in Europe, more or less as it ended up recently in Ukraine," Stachnio emphasized in his article for New Eastern Outlook.

Europe has been caught in a trap of 'European values' and liberal democracy. EU member states are unable to resist the flow of migrants from the Middle East since it would mean a "rejection of the values on which the European Union was built and rights which should govern it," the journalist noted quoting infamous liberal billionaire George Soros.

But "is the pillar of Europe also the mindless acceptance of everything and everyone, regardless of the real threat coming from Islamic fundamentalists coming to Europe from ISIL?" the journalist asked.

Stachnio pointed to a new disturbing trend emerging in Europe: people with a negative attitude to the refugee crisis and migration are being censured on social networks, particularly Facebook. Furthermore, there is evidence that some of those who vocally opposed immigration were arrested, while others are monitored via various 'foundations' and even fired from work for their anti-immigration remarks on Facebook.

Alas, there is a possibility that the "cake" proposed by "Soros and Co." is poisoned with Islamic fundamentalists hidden in it, Stachnio warned. The journalist pointed to the fact that the EU has virtually no means of distinguishing ISIL fighters from refugees.

"Today [the Islamic State] is able to forge any currency, and also any passport meaning those who have documents are not necessarily those who are in these documents. Moreover, many of these so-called refugees have wiped off their fingerprints. So how do you determine the true identity of the people that come to Europe? In addition, all databases in Iraq and most of the provinces and territories of Syria were in the hands of IS," Stachnio stressed, citing investigative journalist Witold Gadowski.

It is not a question of whether to help Syrian asylum seekers or not, the Polish journalist noted, adding that every thinking person knows that it is necessary to help those in need.

But what is currently going on in Europe is not about helping refugees: we are facing a social-engineering project that will inevitably lead to a new 'color revolution' in Europe, he highlighted.

"When trained, equipped with weapons and well-organized Islamic terrorists will come to Europe, Europe will be completely helpless. There will be riots, disputes, murders and demonstrations, that is, the so-called 'color revolution' on a European scale. In a word, a repeat of Ukraine," Stachnio noted.

Stachnio referred to prominent French politician and author Jacques Attali, an adviser to the United Nations and founder and first President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London from 1991 to 1993, who depicted a prospective history of the planet in the next 50 years in his book "A Brief History of the Future" (2006).

Attali envisages the eventual dissolution of nation-states in favor of a global market dubbed the "hyperempire." The entire planet would be ruled by the class of "hypernomads" which would rely in their turn on "virtual nomads" — technicians, scientists, engineers, managers. Other people, named "infranomads," would live in complete misery. According to Attali, humanity would experience a wave of planetary wars which will change the face of the globe tremendously. Those who survive the disaster will live in a "hyperdemocratic" universe with collective intelligence and wise world government.

Curiously enough, the gloomy picture, drawn by Attali, and the refugee crisis which is threatening to engulf Europe have much in common.

"Coincidence? I do not think so," Stachnio remarked, "It seems that Europe will soon be destabilized à la the Middle East."

The bold social engineering experiment supported by Soros and Co. will result in the increased vulnerability of Europeans in relation to aggressive Islam and more conflicts. Eventually, Europeans will agree "on every top-down despotism," Stachnio underscored, adding that he hopes that his analysis in this case will be incorrect.

European Destruction - Sacrifice to American Capitalist Empire

Article
SOURCE

http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/opinion/2015/10/07/arab-states-take-syrian-refugees/73522124/

Why Arab States won’t take in Syrian refugees
Mohammad Ahmad 12:53 p.m. CDT October 7, 2015
Greece Migrants_Fran
The discovery of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi‘s body on a Turkish beach on Sept. 2 pricked the conscience of the world. Everyone wants to do something.

However, many people are perplexed that the Arab states, despite their geographical proximity, historical links and shared religion and language with Syrian refugees, are not making any significant contribution to the resettlement of those refugees in their lands.

Arabs share this surprise. They can’t understand this inaction when a quarter of a century ago, thousands of Kuwaitis were given refuge in the Gulf after the Iraqi invasion. They have expressed their dismay over the situation on social media. On Twitter, the Arabic hashtag that translates to #WelcomingSyrianRefugeesIsaGulfduty has provided them a place for expressing the indignation many Arabs feel when they witness European states such as Germany and Britain taking in thousands of refugees while their governments sit idle.

A recent post expresses the distress: It shows a photo of a drowned refugee with the comment: “It is shameful that they have to roam all about God’s earth and drown in the seas while fleeing death when we are supposed to be closer to them than the West.”

In the meantime, Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan share the bulk of the 4.1 million Syrian refugees who have fled a civil war that has killed more than 250,000 and displaced more than 7 million. The wealthiest Arab countries have formally taken in no Syrian refugees, arguing that doing so would open them up to the risk of terrorism.

To placate citizens who feel compassion for the Syrian refugees, Arab governments point to the money they have given to help Syrian refugees. Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait have been among the world’s largest donors to Syrian refugees, via United Nations agencies and private charities.

While aid through the U.N. and its agencies is verifiable, the portion given through private charities is not. While Kuwait has provided $784 million through the U.N. since 2012 and the UAE more than $350 million, these amounts are still less than the almost $800 million from Britain or the $3 billion the U.S. has provided.

The Arab states’ argument about the risk of terrorists entering their lands is lame. Any significant movement has been in the reverse direction. The Syrian resistance has had the tactical support of the Arab states, which share the resistance leaders’ doctrinal agenda. These pseudo-Islamist leaders have little interest in destabilizing the Arab States that are funding them, especially when their most important immediate goal is a victory in Syria. The threat of state-sponsored terrorism by Syria’s Assad government is also far-fetched since Syria’s ruler has his hands full fighting for his survival.

The real reason for this inhuman blocking of Syrian refugees is different. The Syrians have lived under secular governments far too long for the comfort of the Arab states. While Syrian rulers may have been undemocratic, they did protect religious freedom for most groups. As a result, many Syrians accept religious plurality and are more inclusive than exclusive. This does not fit in with the doctrinal rigidity of the ruling Arab elite.

That the Syrians share a common language makes them dangerous in the eyes of some Arab rulers. They fear that refugees could dangerously pollute the minds of subjects who are kept under strict religious monitoring although even the Quran says, “Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. Thou art not over them a warden.”

Additionally, figures in some of these Arab states have made inflammatory statements about Syrian refugees, many of whom are Alawites, Christians or Druze. Given how things operate in these states, it is difficult to assume that these have been made in contradiction to government policies.

A sermon delivered by the pseudo-Islamist Saudi cleric Sa’ad Ateeq al Ateeq in Doha’s state-controlled Grand Mosque called for the destruction of the faithful of other religions: “Allah, strengthen Islam and the Muslims, and destroy your enemies, the enemies of the religion,” he said. The preacher went on to say, “Allah, destroy the Jews and whoever made them Jews, and destroy the Christians and Alawites and the Shiites.” Not long ago, Saudi Arabia’s highest Islamic authority, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah, called for the destruction of “all the churches in the (Arabian peninsula).” Such sentiments from the pulpit by quasi-official figures provide a good insight into the mindset of Arab rulers. In that light, their decision to block the entry of Syrian refugees makes perfect sense.

This refusal by the Saudi-led Arab States to bar Syrian refugees hasn’t just resulted in misery to hundreds of thousands of people. It also has provided an opportunity to Christian-majority states to again help Muslims in dire need. In the seventh century, early Muslim refugees also were helped by the Christian kingdom of Aksum, present-day Ethiopia and Eritrea (formerly referred to as Abyssinia). This act of kindness is remembered by all Muslims with extreme thankfulness. Pope Francis’ guidance to his flock regarding Syrian refugees — “Every Catholic parish, every religious community, every monastery, every sanctuary in Europe should accommodate one family, beginning with my diocese of Rome” — reminds one of that kind, long-ago gesture by the Christian king of Abyssinia.

The pseudo-Islamist extremists have been trying to portray humanity’s war against terrorism as a clash of civilizations and religions. Humane treatment of the Syrian refugees would go a long way in countering their propaganda. The best-case scenario would be for Israel, which borders Syria, to open its borders to the refugees. While this is probably too much to hope for, it would be a death blow to the extremists. Is Israel prepared to take this giant leap to befriend Muslims?

Ethiopia
Islam in Ethiopia dates back to the founding of the religion; in 615, when a group of Muslims were counseled by Muhammad to escape persecution in Mecca and travel to Ethiopia via modern-day Eritrea, which was ruled by Ashama ibn Abjar, a pious Christian king.

According to the most recent 2007 CSA governmental data, Muslims are 33.9% of the population.

Eritrea
United States Department of State indicates that 50% of the population are Sunni Muslims but gives no figures for Shias, while a 2009 Pew Research Center report says that less than 1% are Shia.

Islam accounts for approximately 36% to 50% of the population.

More than 99% of Eritrean Muslims practice Sunni Islam.

Islam first arrived to the region when immigrants from Mecca, persecuted by the ruling Quraysh tribe were accepted into Abyssinia by the ruler of Ethiopia whom Arabic tradition has named Aṣḥama ibn Abjar, and he settled them in Negash, located in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia.

Islam later spread in Eritrea under the Ottoman Empire.

COMMENT

Thought this article was interesting, as it provides a bit of an overview of the Syrian and the Arab scenarios.
As the author points out, it's the Saudi Arabians that are funding the terrorists.  So the argument that they're protecting themselves by denying Syrians asylum on ground that they're shutting out terrorists doesn't wash, when they themselves are sponsors of terrorism.
It's also worth bearing in mind that the 'Syrian refugees' everyone's referring to aren't strictly 'Syrian' refugees -- they're immigrants from all over the Middle East and Africa that are migrating to Europe.

Doha is in Qatar, where preachers at the state-controlled mosque call for the destruction of Jews and Christians (and others).

Saudi Arabia's highest religious authority, calls for the destruction of all churches in the Arabian Peninsula.

Meanwhile, Europe has had its borders open to Muslim immigration for decades and most European major cities are now mosque sites.
From a quick look, it appears that the construction of mosques has been funded in Europe by the Saudi Arabian fundamentalists, by Qatar and by Turkey, while Europe has bent over backwards to accommodate what amounts to foreign, non-secular invasion, that lives in parallel, religious dominated, and often violent and insular communities, that even police and emergency vehicles don't enter without backup.

Europe and the West, which has opened its borders to immigration that (a) cannot be assimilated and (b) immigration that represents an ongoing threat; subjects domestic populations to totalitarian surveillance and life under high terror alert, even as Europe fails to protect its populations from internal chaos and violence that is integral to hosting these outsider communities.
At the same time, Europe and the West continue to ally themselves with fundamentalist regimes that fund the Islamisation of Europe, regimes whose clerics call for destruction of Christians and churches.
Europe and the West meanwhile continue to take part in destabilisation and destruction of secular Middle Eastern targets of direct, or proxy, Western intervention (at a staggering financial and social cost to European and Western taxpayers), displacing millions in the Middle East and in Africa, and generating floods of unassimilable non-European immigrants, headed to Europe and the West.

This must be the definition of insanity.
That the US has spent $3 billion (since 2012) on post-intervention humanitarian mop-up operations in the guise of 'humanitarian' relief channelled through the UN (while America's own citizens live below the poverty line, America's water infrastructure crumbles & private companies rip off the American poor - here) indicates this is about American corporate imperialism and that Europe is absorbing the human costs for its American ally:  costs that will destroy Europe, in sacrifice to the expansion of the American capitalist empire.
What one allows into a nation does not remain static.  Sooner or later what is foreign increases in number and in demand for political power.  In the case for people for whom the religious and the political is often one and the same, there can only be problems ahead.

I'd wager that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and other Islamic nations are also funding the current diverse and highly organised tsunami of Muslim immigration to Europe.

While there's a number of extraneous reasons the Arab states may ostensibly be reluctant to take in Syrians, the bulk of immigration to Europe is not Syrian.

Gulf Arab states and like Muslim counterparts have no interest in absorbing the tidal wave of Muslim immigration because their primary motivation and goal is Muslim domination.  Hence Saudi offers of 200 mosques for every 100 refugees to Germany - here.

The Syrian refugees are just a small fraction of the onslaught of Middle Eastern and African immigration.

In 1945, the countries that defeated Nazism joined their efforts to lay solid foundations for the postwar world order.

But I remind you that the key decisions on the principles guiding the cooperation among states, as well as on the establishment of the United Nations, were made in our country, in Yalta, at the meeting of the anti-Hitler coalition leaders.
The Yalta system was actually born in travail. It was won at the cost of tens of millions of lives and two world wars.

This swept through the planet in the 20th century.

Let us be fair. It helped humanity through turbulent, at times dramatic, events of the last seven decades. It saved the world from large-scale upheavals.
The United Nations is unique in its legitimacy, representation and universality. It is true that lately the U.N. has been widely criticized for supposedly not being efficient enough, and for the fact that the decision-making on fundamental issues stalls due to insurmountable differences, first of all, among the members of the Security Council.

However, I'd like to point out there have always been differences in the U.N. throughout all these 70 years of existence. The veto right has always been exercised by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, the Soviet Union and Russia later, alike. It is absolutely natural for so diverse and representative an organization.

When the U.N. was established, its founders did not in the least think that there would always be unanimity. The mission of the organization is to seek and reach compromises, and its strength comes from taking different views and opinions into consideration. Decisions debated within the U.N. are either taken as resolutions or not. As diplomats say, they either pass or do not pass.

[...]

Whatever actions any state might take bypassing this procedure are illegitimate. They run counter to the charter and defy international law. We all know that after the end of the Cold War — everyone is aware of that — a single center of domination emerged in the world, and then those who found themselves at the top of the pyramid were tempted to think that if they were strong and exceptional, they knew better and they did not have to reckon with the U.N., which, instead of [acting to] automatically authorize and legitimize the necessary decisions, often creates obstacles or, in other words, stands in the way.

It has now become commonplace to see that in its original form, it has become obsolete and completed its historical mission. Of course, the world is changing and the U.N. must be consistent with this natural transformation. Russia stands ready to work together with its partners on the basis of full consensus, but we consider the attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the United Nations as extremely dangerous. They could lead to a collapse of the entire architecture of international organizations, and then indeed there would be no other rules left but the rule of force.

We would get a world dominated by selfishness rather than collective work, a world increasingly characterized by dictate rather than equality. There would be less of a chain of democracy and freedom, and that would be a world where true independent states would be replaced by an ever-growing number of de facto protectorates and externally controlled territories.

What is the state sovereignty, after all, that has been mentioned by our colleagues here? It is basically about freedom and the right to choose freely one's own future for every person, nation and state. By the way, dear colleagues, the same holds true of the question of the so-called legitimacy of state authority. One should not play with or manipulate words.

Every term in international law and international affairs should be clear, transparent and have uniformly understood criteria. We are all different, and we should respect that. No one has to conform to a single development model that someone has once and for all recognized as the only right one. We should all remember what our past has taught us.

It seemed, however, that far from learning from others' mistakes, everyone just keeps repeating them, and so the export of revolutions, this time of so-called democratic ones, continues. It would suffice to look at the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, as has been mentioned by previous speakers. Certainly political and social problems in this region have been piling up for a long time, and people there wish for changes naturally.
But how did it actually turn out? Rather than bringing about reforms, an aggressive foreign interference has resulted in a brazen destruction of national institutions and the lifestyle itself. Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster.

Nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life.

I cannot help asking those who have caused the situation, do you realize now what you've done? But I am afraid no one is going to answer that. Indeed, policies based on self-conceit and belief in one's exceptionality and impunity have never been abandoned.

It is now obvious that the power vacuum created in some countries of the Middle East and North Africa through the emergence of anarchy areas,  which immediately started to be filled with extremists and terrorists.
Tens of thousands of militants are fighting under the banners of the so-called Islamic State. Its ranks include former Iraqi servicemen who were thrown out into the street after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Many recruits also come from Libya, a country whose statehood was destroyed as a result of a gross violation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1973. And now, the ranks of radicals are being joined by the members of the so-called moderate Syrian opposition supported by the Western countries.

First, they are armed and trained and then they defect to the so-called Islamic State. Besides, the Islamic State itself did not just come from nowhere. It was also initially forged as a tool against undesirable secular regimes.
Having established a foothold in Iraq and Syria, the Islamic State has begun actively expanding to other regions. It is seeking dominance in the Islamic world. And not only there, and its plans go further than that. The situation is more than dangerous.

In these circumstances, it is hypocritical and irresponsible to make loud declarations about the threat of international terrorism while turning a blind eye to the channels of financing and supporting terrorists, including the process of trafficking and illicit trade in oil and arms. It would be equally irresponsible to try to manipulate extremist groups and place them at one's service in order to achieve one's own political goals in the hope of later dealing with them or, in other words, liquidating them.

To those who do so, I would like to say — dear sirs, no doubt you are dealing with rough and cruel people, but they're in no way primitive or silly. They are just as clever as you are, and you never know who is manipulating whom. And the recent data on arms transferred to this most moderate opposition is the best proof of it.

We believe that any attempts to play games with terrorists, let alone to arm them, are not just short-sighted, but fire hazardous (ph). This may result in the global terrorist threat increasing dramatically and engulfing new regions, especially given that Islamic State camps train militants from many countries, including the European countries.

Unfortunately, dear colleagues, I have to put it frankly: Russia is not an exception. We cannot allow these criminals who already tasted blood to return back home and continue their evil doings. No one wants this to happen, does he?

Russia has always been consistently fighting against terrorism in all its forms. Today, we provide military and technical assistance both to Iraq and Syria and many other countries of the region who are fighting terrorist groups.
We think it is an enormous mistake to refuse to cooperate with the Syrian government and its armed forces, who are valiantly fighting terrorism face to face. We should finally acknowledge that no one but President Assad's armed forces and Kurds (ph) militias are truly fighting the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations in Syria.

We know about all the problems and contradictions in the region, but which were (ph) based on the reality.

Dear colleagues, I must note that such an honest and frank approach of Russia has been recently used as a pretext to accuse it of its growing ambitions, as if those who say it have no ambitions at all.
However, it's not about Russia's ambitions, dear colleagues, but about the recognition of the fact that we can no longer tolerate the current state of affairs in the world. What we actually propose is to be guided by common values and common interests, rather than ambitions.

On the basis of international law, we must join efforts to address the problems that all of us are facing and create a genuinely broad international coalition against terrorism.

Similar to the anti-Hitler coalition, it could unite a broad range of forces that are resolutely resisting those who, just like the Nazis, sow evil and hatred of humankind. And, naturally, the Muslim countries are to play a key role in the coalition, even more so because the Islamic State does not only pose a direct threat to them, but also desecrates one of the greatest world religions by its bloody crimes.

The ideologists (ph) of militants make a mockery of Islam and pervert its true humanistic (ph) values. I would like to address Muslim spiritual leaders, as well. Your authority and your guidance are of great importance right now.
It is essential to prevent people recruited by militants from making hasty decisions and those who have already been deceived, and who, due to various circumstances found themselves among terrorists, need help in finding a way back to normal life, laying down arms, and putting an end to fratricide.
Russia will shortly convene, as the (ph) current president of the Security Council, a ministerial meeting to carry out a comprehensive analysis of threats in the Middle East.

First of all, we propose discussing whether it is possible to agree on a resolution aimed at coordinating the actions of all the forces that confront the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations. Once again, this coordination should be based on the principles of the U.N. Charter.

We hope that the international community will be able to develop a comprehensive strategy of political stabilization, as well as social and economic recovery, of the Middle East.

Then, dear friends, there would be no need for new refugee camps. Today, the flow of people who were forced to leave their homeland has literally engulfed first neighboring countries and then Europe itself. There were hundreds of thousands of them now, and there might be millions before long. In fact, it is a new great and tragic migration of peoples, and it is a harsh lesson for all of us, including Europe.

I would like to stress refugees undoubtedly need our compassion and support. However, the — on the way to solve this problem at a fundamental level is to restore their statehood where it has been destroyed, to strengthen the government institutions where they still exist or are being reestablished, to provide comprehensive assistance of military, economic and material nature to countries in a difficult situation. And certainly, to those people who, despite all the ordeals, will not abandon their homes. Literally, any assistance to sovereign states can and must be offered rather than imposed exclusively and solely in accordance with the U.N. Charter.

In other words, everything in this field that has been done or will be done pursuant to the norms of international law must be supported by our organization. Everything that contravenes the U.N. Charter must be rejected. Above all, I believe it is of the utmost importance to help restore government's institutions in Libya, support the new government of Iraq and provide comprehensive assistance to the legitimate government of Syria.

Dear colleagues, ensuring peace and regional and global stability remains the key objective of the international community with the U.N. at its helm. We believe this means creating a space of equal and indivisible security, which is not for the select few but for everyone. Yet, it is a challenge and complicated and time-consuming task, but there is simply no other alternative. However, the bloc thinking of the times of the Cold War and the desire to explore new geopolitical areas is still present among some of our colleagues.

First, they continue their policy of expanding NATO. What for? If the Warsaw Bloc stopped its existence, the Soviet Union have collapsed (ph) and, nevertheless, the NATO continues expanding as well as its military infrastructure. Then they offered the poor Soviet countries a false choice: either to be with the West or with the East. Sooner or later, this logic of confrontation was bound to spark off a grave geopolitical crisis. This is exactly what happened in Ukraine, where the discontent of population with the current authorities was used and the military coup was orchestrated from outside — that triggered a civil war as a result.

We're confident that only through full and faithful implementation of the Minsk agreements of February 12th, 2015, can we put an end to the bloodshed and find a way out of the deadlock. Ukraine's territorial integrity cannot be ensured by threat of force and force of arms. What is needed is a genuine consideration for the interests and rights of the people in the Donbas region and respect for their choice. There is a need to coordinate with them as provided for by the Minsk agreements, the key elements of the country's political structure. These steps will guarantee that Ukraine will develop as a civilized society, as an essential link and building a common space of security and economic cooperation, both in Europe and in Eurasia.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have mentioned these common space of economic cooperation on purpose. Not long ago, it seemed that in the economic sphere, with its objective market loss, we would launch a leaf (ph) without dividing lines. We would build on transparent and jointly formulated rules, including the WTO principles, stipulating the freedom of trade, and investment and open competition.

Nevertheless, today, unilateral sanctions circumventing the U.N. Charter have become commonplace, in addition to pursuing political objectives. The sanctions serve as a means of eliminating competitors.

I would like to point out another sign of a growing economic selfishness. Some countries [have] chosen to create closed economic associations, with the establishment being negotiated behind the scenes, in secret from those countries' own citizens, the general public, business community and from other countries.

Other states whose interests may be affected are not informed of anything, either. It seems that we are about to be faced with an accomplished fact that the rules of the game have been changed in favor of a narrow group of the privileged, with the WTO having no say. This could unbalance the trade system completely and disintegrate the global economic space.

These issues affect the interest of all states and influence the future of the world economy as a whole. That is why we propose discussing them within the U.N. WTO NGO (ph) '20.
Contrary to the policy of exclusiveness, Russia proposes harmonizing original economic projects. I refer to the so-called integration of integrations based on universal and transparent rules of international trade. As an example, I would like to cite our plans to interconnect the Eurasian economic union, and China's initiative of the Silk Road economic belt.

COMMENT

The West is morally corrupt.

Europe is being destroyed by a flood of Middle Eastern and African immigration, created by Western interventions and destruction of functioning states.

The terrorists that the West has been arming in the Middle East, will soon have cells set up in Europe, where they're now collecting welfare, and will soon be setting up head-hunter caliphate camps in Europe.

And still, the West persists in undermining efforts to defeat the Islamic terrorist chaos in the Middle East, in the hope that the chaos they create will serve the West's regional interests, before eliminating them once they've served their purpose.

But that's not all, as well as destruction of Europe, the West is secretly negotiating the collapse of the world economy.

I reckon this entire planet should be nuked.  Seriously.  Why wait?
