Seventy percent (70%) of the population lived below the poverty line. Many were illiterate and lived in simple nomadic tents. It was a typically underdeveloped African country. Gaddafi provided the Libyans with the kind of life that made the rest of the dark continent envious. Out of the desert arose the 'Eight Wonder of the World' - the Great Man-Made River (the world's largest irrigation project). Interview Subject (Male) c. 0:50: He was able to create a system of irrigation throughout the desert, through an underground pipe network. Interview Subject (Female) c. 0:57: Factories and enterprises began operating throughout Libya, none of which were there before. Narrator: Not having paid a single Dinar, Libyans moved from tents into apartment blocks. 'Rent' did not exist. Everything, including utilities and power, was covered by the government. Interview Subject (Male, elderly) c. 1:17: If we were to compare the way cities, such as Tripoli, looked before he came to power and after, you would see that it went from an ugly village to a city with high-rises, 30 years later. So you want to get married? The government would give newly-wed couples USD$64,000 towards buying a home and USD$7,000 towards each child born. You want a car? The government will cover 50% of the cost. Petrol in Libya used to be cheaper than water: 3 cents per litre. Interview Subject (Male) c. 17:03: Minimum wages were in the thousands of dollars, education abroad was paid for by the state, and cases where medical surgeries needed to be carried out outside of Libya, the state covered that, too. Narrator: "But to bring lasting peace of Libya would be impossible: this land will forever be torn apart by the leaders of these various tribes." "They can't and don't want to be ruled by a single person." That's what the leaders of the superpowers said in the 1970s Colonel Gaddafi surprised everyone. He unified 140 tribes into one country. Each one of these tribes had their own leader (Sheik). The option for Gadddafi was to either "scare them to death" or to buy them. Gaddafi preferred the latter. He promised them a heavenly existence, and he delivered on his words. Cuts to Gaddafi: We have oil: this is what will unite us. Narrator: Oil is the reason that Libya stayed as one country. Gaddafi nationalised the oil producing industry. He promised that the huge profits would be fairly distributed across the entire country. All Libyans began to receive their share of Libyan oil trade. Interview Subject (Male) c. 3:07: When the people can see that a certain leader is raising the standard of living, of course he will have a lot of support. Narrator: Gaddafi kicked out the foreigners. He closed the US and British military bases. He confiscated property from local Italians, the offspring of the colonisers. Then he moved onto the culture. He changed the calender, including the names of the months, and counting the years now from the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. He reviewed all the laws in Libya, to be in accordance with Sharia Law. Alcohol and gambling became illegal. Gaddafi considered himself to principal fighter for the interests of his people. Placing hand-picked personnel amidst high ranking roles, and being in full control of the country, Gaddafi refused any kind of title for himself. Having consolidated immense power, he only ever referred to himself as the 'servant of the people'. Interview Subject (Male) c. 4:08: "I'm just your 'brother of a leader', or a "brother of a ruler" - or sometimes he would title himself anything at all. Narrator: He considered Islam to be the highest form of moral authority; he did not drink any alcohol, which is forbidden by the Koran. He didn't even drink tea or coffee and kept his food very simple. But Libya was only getting richer. Political parties are a sham. Parliament is a sham. He considered that democracy is only an illusion of "the rule by the people." Simply an illusion. So he introduced the model of the Soviet Union - the 'soviet' [council] is where the power is." Narrator: In 1992, the UN Security Council imposed sanctions against Libya. Libya's ability to sell oil ceased, and assets were frozen. How to win back the business of the international community? Gaddafi would consider it for 10 years. He decided to buy it. He said "I only made one mistake, and that was trusting the Americans and the Westerners." They said: give up your [military] programs, and you will become a full member of the 'international community'. Having been ostracised for so long, Gaddafi agreed. In 2013, Sadam Hussien was tried [by kangaroo court and executed], demonstrating to Gaddafi, once again, that it is best not to be on bad terms with the West. Narrator: Sarkozy approached the Libyan government when he was a Minsister of Internal Affairs. He needed money for his election campaign. It was Libya's money that helped Sarkozy become President. ` Interview Subject (Male) c. 8:18: Gaddafi gave Sarkozy a lot of money, both to the cause and in his own pocket. And not just to Sarkozy, but other EU leaders such as Berlusconi. He paid Germany and Britain, too. Narrator: Gaddafi devoted himself to the intrigues on the international arena, but within his own country he feared no one. He knew that his people loved him, and it was true - they continued to show love for him, but it only added to his supposition of being irreplaceable. Cuts to vieled elderly female: "I am ready to put down my life for Muammar Gaddafi: he is a symbol of emancipation from the colonisers for every Libyan!" Interview Subject (Male) c. 8:56: Meanwhile, the tribes began to segregate, living their own ways and traditions. Even though Gaddafi continued to feed them, clothe them and arm them, and they appeared to be loyal to him, that loyalty wore thin. Narrator: In December 2010, the entire region became engulfed by protests and demonstrators. People became tired of poverty, the rife corruption that was taking place amongst officials, as well as lawlessness and hopelessness of their countries. The 'Arab Spring' had arrived, complete with chaos, and flowing rivers of blood. Opposition rebels got control of Eastern Libya in a number of days. Gaddafi was in Western Libya at the time. He was assured that he could dispel the uprising. Gaddafi audio: "Prepare to defend Libya! They wanted a war; they will have a war!" Narrator: We are close to victory, but to speed it along, I'm ready to open up the military arsenals and private all of Libya's true patriots with weapons!" At first, Gaddafi said they are just groups of drug addicts who are attacking police officers and stealing their weapons. But he quickly realised, this smells like a government coup. And there is nobody to defend him: he himself had vastly reduced his armed forces. Interview Subject (Male elderly) c. 10:14: The first one to act was Sarkozy: he unleashed the French airforce. Narrator: After the fall of Tripoli, Gaddafi remained in control of only 2 cities, around which brutal battles waged. There were more and more casualties. Interview Subject (Female) c. 10:30: The West, of course, tricked Gaddafi. He never expected this. It was a real knife in the back situation. It isn't even clear why they did this - why was this war necessary? Muammar Gaddafi was himself doing everything that they asked for. They killed him in a very humiliating way; as a personality, as a man, as a soldier, as a ruler, as a leader. They maintain that Libyans did this to Gaddafi because they are savage, unenlightened beings. Narrator: Never has the death of a human being caused such over-abundance of Joy. Thousands of people rejoiced, who once loved Gaddafi. Hillary Clinton said "Woooow" when she heard the news. The US Ambassador to Libya took a picture next to the dictator's body, with his thumbs up. Interview Subject (Male) c. 11:41: Libya got rid of Gaddafi and Gaddafi's family. The got rid of 'the green book' and the green flag. They gained the absence of a unitary state, no governance structures, a permanent civil war and basically everything that the average 'revolutionary' never imagined. 12:13 - Very disturbing footage of bloodied Gaddafi surrounded by rabble, gunfire, screaming, poor audio, photographs being taken of bloodied and confused Gaddafi on what appears to be back of truck; disturbing high pitched noise like ongoing screaming and gunshots fired, possibly from automatic weapons. And they murdered him without a trace or trial. If he was captured, it should have been left up to the people to decide his fate via democratic methods. It is actually a terrible catastrophe. But do not look around for somebody to blame, when it is you making these mistakes. You must do the opposite; rise above the endless desire to dominate. I didn't know that the US Ambassador that was eventually killed in Benghazi had been photographed with a thumbs-up over Gaddafi's mutilated corpse. What the capitalists have done to Libya is shocking. Lessons here: 1.  Do not trust capitalists. 2.  Do not disarm or wind down military. 3.  Rule by fear and brutal force may work better than generosity. What kind of fools receive everything they need for nothing and then take down the government that provides them with freebies that are unheard of anywhere else, to destroy their country and install rule by foreign capitalism that will mercilessly exploit Libya and the Libyan people? I can't believe it. Next time a Jihadi ploughs into a French crowd, I'll be thinking it is the French capitalists that are driving the bus. Even Americans, famous for our lack of interest in world affairs, now closely follow news from far away. Much of it is frightening. Terror attacks are claiming innocent lives around the world. Syria is being torn apart. China and Russia boldly pursue their national interests and defy American dictates. Turkish democracy is evaporating. Iran and Saudi Arabia are at each other’s throats. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan drag on interminably. The European Union is staggering, with Britain quitting and others perhaps to follow. Meanwhile, several European countries are drifting toward right-wing authoritarianism. Donald Trump’s campaign threatens to take the United States in the same direction. This is the opposite of what many Americans expected. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 set off a wave of triumphalism in the West. Americans welcomed the “end of history” and presumed that all countries would quickly adopt political and economic systems like ours. There was to be a “peace dividend” as tranquility settled over the globe. People would become more prosperous. Nations would cooperate. All would gratefully submit to America’s will. Those were delusions. The world has gone in precisely the opposite direction, toward tribalism and conflict. We are now paying the price for grave misjudgments. The first was our misunderstanding of the Soviet collapse. It was a Soviet failure, but we interpreted it as an epochal American victory. That led us to believe that in a post-Cold War world, American power would grow, turning us into a global hegemon that other countries would happily follow. This was never realistic. Moments of change require adaptation, but the United States is not good at adapting. We are used to being in charge. This blinded us to the reality that as other countries began rising, our relative power would inevitably decline. Rather than shifting to a less assertive and more cooperative foreign policy, we continued to insist that America must reign supreme. When we declared that we would not tolerate the emergence of another “peer power,” we expected that other countries would blithely obey. Instead they ignore us. We interpret this as defiance and seek to punish the offenders. That has greatly intensified tensions between the United States and the countries we are told to consider our chief adversaries, Russia and China. The ideological conflict of the Cold War was so intense that when it ended, Americans assumed tranquility would follow. In fact, the Cold War was simply a temporary phenomenon that masked centuries-old political, social, cultural, and religious conflicts. Nationalism and tribalism, which began shaping the world long before Communism was invented, have reemerged rather than fading away. Our wrongheaded reaction to the end of the Cold War was America’s first major contribution to today’s global turmoil. The next was our decision to invade Iraq. That invasion continues to shape the world. The recent surge in Islamist terror is one of its long-term results. So are the refugee flows that have destabilized Europe and contributed to the rise of extremist political movements there. It is an object lesson in the long-term effects of intervening in faraway lands — a lesson we still seem not to have learned. Because we interpreted the end of the Cold War as the ultimate vindication of America’s economic system, we intensified our push toward the next level of capitalism, called globalization. It was presented as a project that would benefit everyone. Instead it has turned out to be a nightmare for many working people. Thanks to “disruption” and the “global supply chain,” many American workers who could once support families with secure, decent-paying jobs must now hope they can be hired as greeters at Walmart. Meanwhile, a handful of super-rich financiers manipulate our political system to cement their hold on the nation’s wealth. Our leaders told us that the end of the Cold War would make America more powerful than ever, that we had to invade Iraq because Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction, and that deregulating our economy and signing trade deals would improve the lives of ordinary people. We cannot be surprised that as the scope of those deceptions became clear, people would become angry. American elites are hardly the only ones who have cynically misled their people. The same happened in Europe. “Ever closer union” was another product of the dopey optimism that infected the West in the 1990s. It ignored the evident fact that most Europeans, like most people everywhere, feel loyalty to their own nation or group, and that this loyalty is not easily transferrable to diffuse and distant conglomerations. The EU has been run largely for the benefit of the business class. Ordinary Europeans have come to realize this, and it has angered them. The same anger is enveloping countries from Egypt and Nigeria to Brazil and Venezuela. In our complex modern age, the interdependent world does not run smoothly by itself. It requires farsighted leadership that takes the fate of ordinary people seriously and favors diplomacy over coercive force. Blaming the masses for stupidly supporting demagogic politicians is mistaken. People quite reasonably resent what their leaders have done to them over the last quarter century. They demand something different, whatever it is. Ordinary Americans may well be famous for lack of interest in world affairs, but the American oligarchs and conglomerates are certainly not disinterested or hands-off:  they have been violating the affairs of millions of people around the world, whose governments they have undermined, installed or deposed and whose countries they have bombed — when the American capitalists, the CIA, and American foundations are not otherwise bankrolling and organising political and social unrest in foreign nations, that are targeted for American capitalist take-down that benefits the bank accounts and investment returns of the American ruling elite. Whatever is 'frightening' in the world today, America, it's Western capitalist allies and it's Wahhabi allies supporting Islamic radicalism and tearing down nations in the Middle East and Africa, can take 'credit'. The statement: "China and Russia boldly pursue their national interests and defy American dictates" is annoying to read. Of course, China and Russia will pursue their national interests.  Why wouldn't they, and who are the American ruling oligarchy to seek to interfere with the sovereignty and national self-determination of the multitudes that comprise the nations of Russia and China. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the bet is that Turkey was always a CIA-MI6 capitalist puppet and, as the capitalists are not fussed whether their puppets are dictators or not, it is a good guess that Turkey was never what passes itself off as 'democracy' in the West (ie socially liberal mayhem, propaganda, suppression, unions working against working class interests, and the ruling capitalists in control, no matter who is elected, while the people of nations of these so-called 'democracies' are hostage to a program of third world invasion).  Compared to that, give me Turkey any day.  The bet is Turkey isn't implementing a program of genocide against the Turkish people.  Yes, they're brutal to rebelling out-groups; but they're protecting interest of Turks as a people. What Turkey may now be doing is regaining some of its independence from US-Anglo capitalist control, which the US-Anglo capitalists are displeased with; which would probably explain the attempted CIA coup in Turkey?  Either that, or this whole Turkey thing is a fake, to ensure that the ruling party's grip on control of Turkey is solid, and the US-Anglo capitalists are party to this ruse. The reference to "right-wing authoritarianism' is ridiculous.  Today, any white, or European, political organisation that stands even remotely by white, European, traditions or social norms, or lobbies for policy that is actually in the interests (for a change) of the people that comprise any white, European nation, is labelled 'right-wing'.  'Authoritarian' is a nice new twist, though. Trump is then drawn into this, as if Trump is the next Hitler (as the corporate media propaganda screams), but Trump is simply an American capitalist that wants what Israel has and what endangered white America wants:  a wall to keep the infiltrators out. Oh, and he is, ostensibly, an isolationist ... which could pose problems for Wall Street warmongers. Trump is infinitely a better choice than the unindicted criminal Hillary Clinton, but at the end of the day, if Trump is elected, Trump will be guided by advisors and by the demands of a 'democracy' that is in fact an oligarchy, so electing Trump is not vastly different to electing Hillary Clinton.  But, on the bright side, Trump hasn't got form destroying other nations, being a psychopath thrilled by the murder of Libya's leader, Muammar Gaddafi, or of getting ambassadors killed (to name just a few of Hillary Clinton's electoral selling points). I reject this picture that's being painted: There was to be a “peace dividend” as tranquillity settled over the globe. People would become more prosperous. Nations would cooperate. Capitalists aren't dreamers; they're cold-hearted and greedy planners, devoid of sentimentality or delusions about a capitalist peace-and-prosperity nirvana emerging on the planet. But, yes, they most certainly would have anticipated that American power would grow and they most certainly aim to make their profit-making interests paramount, as they work towards global hegemony:  that serves them and only them. Nationalism and what is referred to as 'tribalism' (ie.  belonging to one's own racial and cultural group) is not something undesirable that has 're-emerged':  it is belonging to a tribe of people (a nation, a cohesive social group bound by heritage and history, and often a group bound by blood).  It is something that has been suppressed in Europeans (whites), to the detriment of Europeans, who have been exploited and divested of their nations by capitalists implementing a program of population replacement by invasion; and this is a CRIME that is being committed by capitalists against the people of all European nations.  Europeans have legitimate and inalienable rights to identity and integrity (be it spacial, biological or social etc), and the legitimate right to pursue what is in the interests of European peoples (versus European and American capitalists). Refugee flows are not merely flows of migrants from Iraq:  the US-led capitalists have destroyed or otherwise helped to destroy a series of Middle-Eastern and African countries.  But, whatever the case in that regard, it is not incumbent on European peoples to take the hit and to destroy European societies, no matter what the capitalist owned media and the capitalist sponsored intelligentsia may preach. The destruction of European societies, destruction of European social order, and the destruction of European nations as nations, is a long-standing capitalist agenda implemented per US-Anglo capitalist clear intent to neutralise the future potential for resistance to (and independence of) Europeans from international capitalist rule, following the CAPITALIST defeat of Germany in 1945.  This agenda has also been methodically implemented by European Union capitalists, under the banner of the European Union and its earlier incarnation; and it is an agenda that has been implemented by all European-settled, US-Anglo capitalist controlled, colonies. The reference to "extremist political movements" is ridiculous:  Europeans, wherever they are, have a right to self-determination and a right to preservation of European interests and European societies, and it is absolutely imperative for the shrinking European demographic worldwide to ensure that the interests of Europeans are not only protected, but also firmly advanced, since such interests have been systemically grossly undermined over the passage of decades of  self-annihilating sleep-walking into the deliberately laid snare of what the capitalist thieves call 'diversity' — which is, in fact, capitalist implemented path to white genocide, that is a trap precisely because the longer the program of invasion (in the capitalist PR-spun guise of 'diversity') is permitted to continue, the more impossible it is to remedy without major civil upheaval and war.  The capitalist push for 'globalisation' is merely a push for US-Anglo led capitalist global hegemony, and it has absolutely nothing to do with 'benefiting everyone', and certainly would not have been envisaged in those terms by nation destroying greedy capitalists and currency speculators. The reference to "dopey optimism" infecting the West in the 1990s is ridiculous.  If any 'optimism' was displayed, it was propaganda as a ruse, to con the working classes out of their heritage, as capitalists edged closer to divesting Europeans and destroying European nations.  The co-opted unions and 'left' parties that do not support working-class European (white) interests aided the capitalist thieves, making them accomplices to the robbery of the heritage of Europeans. But historians of the 2011 NATO war in Libya will be sure to notice a few of the truly explosive confirmations contained in the new emails: admissions of rebel war crimes, special ops trainers inside Libya from nearly the start of protests, Al Qaeda embedded in the U.S. backed opposition, Western nations jockeying for access to Libyan oil, the nefarious origins of the absurd Viagra mass rape claim, and concern over Gaddafi’s gold and silver reserves threatening European currency. Hillary’s Death Squads A March 27, 2011, intelligence brief [archived here] on Libya, sent by long time close adviser to the Clintons and Hillary’s unofficial intelligence gatherer, Sidney Blumenthal, contains clear evidence of war crimes on the  part of NATO-backed rebels. Citing a rebel commander source “speaking in strict confidence” Blumenthal reports to Hillary [emphasis mine]: Under attack from allied Air and Naval forces, the Libyan Army troops have begun to desert to the rebel side in increasing numbers. The rebels are making an effort to greet these troops as fellow Libyans, in an effort to encourage additional defections. (Source Comment: Speaking in strict confidence, one rebel commander stated that his troops continue to summarily execute all foreign mercenaries captured in the fighting…). While the illegality of extra-judicial killings is easy to recognize (groups engaged in such are conventionally termed “death squads”), the sinister reality behind the “foreign mercenaries” reference might not be as immediately evident to most. While over the decades Gaddafi was known to make use of European and other international security and infrastructural contractors, there is no evidence to suggest that these were targeted by the Libyan rebels. There is, however, ample documentation by journalists, academics, and human rights groups demonstrating that black Libyan civilians and sub-Saharan contract workers, a population favored by Gaddafi in his pro-African Union policies, were targets of “racial cleansing” by rebels who saw black Libyans as tied closely with the regime.[1] Black Libyans were commonly branded as “foreign mercenaries” by the rebel opposition for their perceived general loyalty to Gaddafi as a community and subjected to torture, executions, and their towns “liberated” by ethnic cleansing. This is demonstrated in the most well-documented example of Tawergha, an entire town of 30,000 black and “dark-skinned” Libyans which vanished by August 2011 after its takeover by NATO-backed NTC Misratan brigades.  [comment:  they're probably mostly in Europe and otherwise dispersed, rather than all killed? ] These attacks were well-known as late as 2012 and often filmed, as this report from The Telegraph confirms: After Muammar Gaddafi was killed, hundreds of migrant workers from neighboring states were imprisoned by fighters allied to the new interim authorities. They accuse the black Africans of having been mercenaries for the late ruler. Thousands of sub-Saharan Africans have been rounded up since Gaddafi fell in August. It appears that Clinton was getting personally briefed on the battlefield crimes of her beloved anti-Gaddafi fighters long before some of the worst of these genocidal crimes took place.   Al-Qaeda and Western Special Forces Inside Libya The same intelligence email from Sydney Blumenthal also confirms what has become a well-known theme of Western supported insurgencies in the Middle East: the contradiction of special forces training militias that are simultaneously suspected of links to Al Qaeda. Blumenthal relates that “an extremely sensitive source” confirmed that British, French, and Egyptian special operations units were training Libyan militants along the Egyptian-Libyan border, as well as in Benghazi suburbs. While analysts have long speculated as to the “when and where” of Western ground troop presence in the Libyan War, this email serves as definitive proof that special forces were on the ground only within a month of the earliest protests which broke out in the middle to end of February 2011 in Benghazi. By March 27 of what was commonly assumed a simple “popular uprising” external special operatives were already “overseeing the transfer of weapons and supplies to the rebels” including “a seemingly endless supply of AK47 assault rifles and ammunition.” Yet only a few paragraphs after this admission, caution is voiced about the very militias these Western special forces were training because of concern that, “radical/terrorist groups such as the Libyan Fighting Groups and Al Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) are infiltrating the NLC and its military command.” The Threat of Libya’s Oil and Gold to French Interests Though the French-proposed U.N. Security Council Resolution 1973 claimed the no-fly zone implemented over Libya was to protect civilians, an April 2011 email [archived here] sent to Hillary with the subject line “France’s client and Qaddafi’s gold” tells of less noble ambitions. The email identifies French President Nicholas Sarkozy as leading the attack on Libya with five specific purposes in mind: to obtain Libyan oil, ensure French influence in the region, increase Sarkozy’s reputation domestically, assert French military power, and to prevent Gaddafi’s influence in what is considered “Francophone Africa.” Most astounding is the lengthy section delineating the huge threat that Gaddafi’s gold and silver reserves, estimated at “143 tons of gold, and a similar amount in silver,” posed to the French franc (CFA) circulating as a prime African currency. In place of the noble sounding “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P) doctrine fed to the public, there is this “confidential” explanation of what was really driving the war [emphasis mine]: This gold was accumulated prior to the current rebellion and was intended to be used to establish a pan-African currency based on the Libyan golden Dinar. This plan was designed to provide the Francophone African Countries with an alternative to the French franc (CFA). (Source Comment: According to knowledgeable individuals this quantity of gold and silver is valued at more than $7 billion. French intelligence officers discovered this plan shortly after the current rebellion began, and this was one of the factors that influenced President Nicolas Sarkozy’s decision to commit France to the attack on Libya.) Though this internal email aims to summarize the motivating factors driving France’s (and by implication NATO’s) intervention in Libya, it is interesting to note that saving civilian lives is conspicuously absent from the briefing. Instead, the great fear reported is that Libya might lead North Africa into a high degree of economic independence with a new pan-African currency. French intelligence “discovered” a Libyan initiative to freely compete with European currency through a local alternative, and this had to be subverted through military aggression. The Ease of Floating Crude Propaganda Early in the Libyan conflict Secretary of State Clinton formally accused Gaddafi and his army of using mass rape as a tool of war. Though numerous international organizations, like Amnesty International, quickly debunked these claims, the charges were uncritically echoed by Western politicians and major media. It seemed no matter how bizarre the conspiracy theory, as long as it painted Gaddafi and his supporters as monsters, and so long as it served the cause of prolonged military action in Libya, it was deemed credible by network news. Two foremost examples are referenced in the latest batch of emails: the sensational [1] claim that Gaddafi issued Viagra to his troops for mass rape, and the [2] claim that bodies were “staged” by the Libyan government at NATO bombing sites to give the appearance of the Western coalition bombing civilians. In a late March 2011 email, Blumenthal confesses to Hillary that, I communicated more than a week ago on this story—Qaddafi placing bodies to create PR stunts about supposed civilian casualties as a result of Allied bombing—though underlining it was a rumor. But now, as you know, Robert gates gives credence to it. (See story below.) Sources now say, again rumor (that is, this information comes from the rebel side and is unconfirmed independently by Western intelligence), that Qaddafi has adopted a rape policy and has even distributed Viagra to troops. The incident at the Tripoli press conference involving a woman claiming to be raped is likely to be part of a much larger outrage. Will seek further confirmation. Not only did Defense Secretary Robert Gates promote his bizarre “staged bodies” theory on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” but the even stranger Viagra rape fiction made international headlines as U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice made a formal charge against Libya in front of the UN Security Council. What this new email confirms is that not only was the State Department aware of the spurious nature of what Blumenthal calls “rumors” originating solely with the rebels, but did nothing to stop false information from rising to top officials who then gave them “credence.” It appears, furthermore, that the Viagra mass rape hoax likely originated with Sidney Blumenthal himself.
