Twitter Capitalist Oligarchy Stasi are conducting a mass purge of non-PC / non culturally Marxist — and alt-right — accounts of real public opinions, attitudes, perceptions, political expression etc., to create an artificial perception of public opinion on what is supposed to be a 'social media' platform, but is in reality nothing but an extension of the lying capitalist-controlled mainstream media and its capitalist-sponsored media and intelligentsia soapbox shills and capitalist-sponsored 'progressive' Soros activist-bots.

Facebook is likewise spinning crap about 'false' news stories and censoring the public on their probable CIA-Mossad spy site, while subjecting to the long-suffering public to piles and piles of nothing but ideological lies, propaganda and indoctrination, showcased on their sh*tty 'social media' surveillance and censorship, distortion-spinning, unreality-making, and public opinion manipulating, platform of more of the same capitalist-controlled, in league with capitalist agent government, shite.

FOX NEWS reports that actor James Woods has left Twitter:

“Since @Twitter is now in the #censorship business, I will no longer use its service for my constitutional right to free speech. #GoodbyeAll” he tweeted Friday.

Not providing a link because FOX NEWS is a disgraceful propaganda churner that cannot even report on this basic freedom of speech issue, without making it clear that FOX news is incapable of even conveying the most basic information WITHOUT BIAS and without capitalist oligarchy spin.

Error 502 on here earlier was really pissing me off, because I thought blogger was shutting out my account as a form of censorship or something.

Checked Twitter feed to see what was going on, and some Frenchie was having problems as well, so I figured it was just a technical glitch.

Then got pissed off with Twitter.

Despite having shut down my account #2 in protest over censorship in general (having already had account #1 held to ransom by be assh*les at Twitter); while Blogger was down, I thought I'd sign on just to get some tailored news feed happening.

The TURDS at Twitter will not allow users to sign on without providing a phone number (which is what I wouldn't give them in the first place, in respect of account #1 that the CENSORING TWITTER C*NTS have disabled).

The lying TURDS at Twitter use the same bullsh*t pretext for all account blocking and censorship:

Yes, the TURDS at Twitter rely on 'exhibited automated behavior' LIES.

Flat out, f*cking LIES.

And they can't spell, the ignorant f*cks.

It will be a good day when the Islamic Caliphate finally takes over.

F*ck you, Twitter.

In other news, I've got burns up my forearm prepping what turned out a lovely beef goulash dinner (recipe here).

Added sliced mushrooms to mine, as well as some zucchini towards the end (just before serving, so it doesn't get mushy).

The carrots were done separately:  honey glazed (with brandy).

Meal would have been better if I didn't have someone here deliberately winding me up, for sport.

Assh**************le.  I'm still pissed off.

I've had it.  I think I need some sleep.

British Police 'Bowed' to Social Media Row

Man who 'confronted Muslim woman' over Brussels says police acted foolishly

Matthew Doyle to ‘launch formal complaint’ against Metropolitan police after it was forced to withdraw charges against him

Nicola Slawson
@nicola_slawson

Saturday 26 March 2016 14.56 GMT

A man who was mistakenly charged by the Metropolitan police, after claiming on Twitter to have confronted a Muslim woman over the Brussels terror attacks, says he is to launch a formal complaint against the force.

Matthew Doyle, from south Croydon, provoked anger on social media after he tweeted about the encounter with the woman. He said the woman gave a “mealy-mouthed” response after he demanded she “explain” the Brussels attacks.

Police charged him with an offence under the Public Order Act on Thursday. But on Friday night they were forced to withdraw the accusations, admitting they had no power to charge him in the first place.

Doyle said police had bowed to a social media row. “In reality, the Met added ammunition to whatever I said,” he said. “Concurrently, their press office should be cautioned about issuing largely self-congratulatory statements and then being forced to backtrack.” He added: “They smelt blood, but got egg on both their face and reputation.”

Doyle had been due to appear at Camberwell Green magistrates court on Friday. But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) later confirmed it did not agree with the Met’s decision, adding that the force did not have the legal power to bring the charges.

Police then released a second statement announcing that the charges against Doyle had been dropped and admitting they had had no power to charge him in the first place. It said: “Following discussion with the Crown Prosecution Service, Mr Doyle is no longer charged with the offence and will not be appearing at court.

“Police may not make charging decisions on offences under Section 19 of the Public Order Act.”

The CPS guidance on its website about racist and religious crime states that a charge under the act can only be prosecuted with consent of the attorney general and requires a referral to the counter-terrorism division to be dealt with by a specialist prosecutor. The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years.

Doyle’s tweet on Wednesday read: “I confronted a Muslim woman yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels. She said ‘Nothing to do with me’. A mealy mouthed reply.”

Initially, Twitter users mocked Doyle for his tweet, posting hundreds of parody versions, however later tweets where Doyle referred to Muslims as “towel heads” were met with anger.

Asked if he regretted his original tweets, he said: “I said how I felt at that moment in time. If anyone fanned the flames, it was the nameless Twitter trolls who smelt a lynching on their hands.

“For the Met to bow to social media rows, it is not only foolish of them but I will be making a complaint against them and [claiming for] damages for trashing my flat, taking all my electronic stuff from my flat and forcing me to leave London.

He said his case had been “badly handled” and complained of his treatment at the police station. He said: “Denied a shave, shower, food etc, I was stripped of any dignity to appear at Camberwell court without looking like a dishevelled hobo, which I am not.”

Doyle also explained the details of his interaction with the unnamed woman. He claims he had a “polite conversation” with a British Muslim after approaching her on Wednesday morning.

“We had a polite conversation and moved on. I thanked her for talking to me,” Doyle said. The conversation took place in south Croydon. If I was being either threatening or racist, she was free to report me.”

In its statement, the Metropolitan police said it would consult further with the CPS over the issue.

COMMENT

Metropolitan Police London are vile, disgusting pigs arresting people without any grounds whatsoever, and misusing police powers to penalise trivial social media messaging.

How dare they exceed their powers and harass and terrorise the public OVER TWITTER MESSAGES.

They trashed that guy's flat, removed his belongings, and slung him in a cell.  And for what?  A string of meaningless words?

For that, I think they should be dismissed from their jobs and immediately prosecuted, as a lesson and a deterrent to others.

Anything less than a prison sentence for those that abuse positions of power is insufficient.

The same could be said of those that abuse some 'victim' claim or other:  maybe those that claim moral indignation while harassing others and lodging police complaints etc for 'offence' or whatever, should likewise be prosecuted for malicious complaint and wasting police time, or something like that.

The culture of crying some 'victimhood' or other, of constantly whining about some delicacy or other, and the culture of collectively harassing other people, of claiming moral indignation, and harassing those who have dissenting points of view is disgusting beyond belief

It is the result of decades-long institutional, educational and media indoctrination & the affect on police can be seen above.

Owing to more of the same indoctrination, migrant crimes are hushed up in the West.

Broke out of Twitter prison .... in a round-about way I didn't expect to work.

So my IP address isn't blocked after all.

The block must be on Tor then?

Not sure what the go is, but I'm in ... and it's sh*t.

I had my feed how I wanted it, but that would take forever to build up again -- especially since the knob-jockey programmers at Twitter  take you for an automated program if you're capable of using a keyboard quickly.  Assh*les.

So Twitter kind of cancels itself out in that regard.

Assh*les.

A VICTORIAN Minister’s official Twitter account has been caught liking hard core pornography images.

But Minister for Housing, Disability & Ageing and Mental Health Martin Foley has said his MP account had been “hacked” after hard core pornography was marked as a favourite tweet on his @MartinFoleyMP Twitter account.

The Twitter account’s like feature enables a user to look back on a “favorited” or “liked” tweet at a later date.

The liked tweets depicted gif images of hard core pornography on at least four separate occasions over the past 12 months.

News Corp has seen screen shots of the images, which include fellatio and anal sex. They are too explicit to publish.

On the same Twitter account today, the state Labor Member for Albert Park claimed he had been hacked.“I have been hacked. Apology for the disgusting material. Security measures being taken now,” tweeted this afternoon.”

He later apologised to his Twitter followers.

I have been hacked. Apology for the disgusting material. Security measures being taken now
    — Martin Foley (@MartinFoleyMP) January 12, 2016

“It was discovered today that my Twitter account had been hacked and that obscene material had been added to my Likes,” he said.

“This material was removed immediately, a process that took some moments due to complications from the hacking process.

“I apologise to any Twitter followers who were as offended as I was.”

Twitter Public Rape Policy - Extends to Tor Browser

TWITTER CENSORSHIP
Twitter Public Rape Policy
Extends to Tor Browser
BY TWITTER TWATS

POLITICAL OPPRESSION
TOR BROWSER BLOCK

After checking to see if I could get into my main Twitter account @tokyorose_01, and finding I can't access that or the temporary account I set up after suddenly being 'offed'  by the cretins at Twitter, I decided to see if I could bypass what amounts to unjust and arbitrary Twitter censorship & political oppression.
So I try to set up an account as Zarathustra's Sister.  Kind of liked that, even though it's not really practical.  lol

All was going well, until the f*ckholes at Twitter demand a PHONE NUMBER -- which is precisely WHY I'm locked out of (1) my main account and (2) the alternate account I set up in order to complain about being locked out of the main account!!

So those f*ckholes at Twitter have not only arbitrarily shut me out of my accounts, denying me a political voice -- they've obviously also 'blacklisted' my IP.

As in, I was able to create the alternate account (after being unceremoniously shut out of my main account while posting my political tweets), without the requirement to provide telephone number.

Therefore, if I'm attempting to do likewise the next day, after I've had the alternate account was also 'offed' by those c*cksuckers, the only explanation for the brand spanking new up-front demand for a phone number to access the service is the blacklisting of my IP.

It annoyed me, but I didn't sweat it.  I've always got Tor, I figured.

Well, IP addresses for Tor Browser are also OBVIOUSLY blocked when:

(a) Shot No. 1 - via USA  -  is met with a demand for a phone number; and

(b) Shot No. 2 - via Netherlands - is met with a demand for a phone number.

Considered for a moment that they may have blacklisted Russian e-mail addresses, but that can't be the case because all my e-mail addresses are Russian and it's never been an issue -- and I used freshies for each attempt.

The f*ckers at Twitter have BLACKLISTED TOR BROWSER IPs!!!

Twitter has therefore  instituted policies that shut down the voices and messages of those that are severely persecuted by the state -- eg. in places like TURKEY -- where the Turkish state shuts down public access to social media platforms such as Twitter, so word of the Turkish government's abuses cannot get out to the Western public.

Twitter is truly despicable.

What's the purpose of the TWITTER PUBLIC RAPE POLICY of withholding account access while  demanding fake / throw-away phone number verification -- which is all those assh*les are going to ever get from me?

As in, I can get a disposable SIM and verify the account via a disposable SIM number.

But then what?  What is the point of the provision of a fake phone number?

And why is it even needed when I don't bother masking my whereabouts:  as in, the c*cksuckers have my IP address, so it's not like I'm untraceable.

What kind of fucked up 'social media' platform is Twitter?

I can't even wrap my head around this bullsh*t ... what is wrong with the programmers there, are they on drugs or something?

Why would they want a phone number that's fake / throw-away?

The only reason I can think of is:  fake or no fake, the phone number must disclose a GPS location.

What, is Obama going to drone Twitter users now?  lol

** Jesus, the text is really blurry looking at the display version of this.

Don't know if it's the colours I've chosen, or my eyesight is going.    lol

How to save Twitter from itself

EXTRACT

[ ... ]

But unlike it’s peers, while Twitter’s business also relies on advertising, it isn’t profitable. It made losses of £645 million in 2013, £578m in 2014, and £431m in the first three quarters of 2015. Its share value has dropped from more than $US60 at its highest in December 2013 to a low of $US22 in January 2016. By comparison, Facebook made a profit of £2 billion in 2014. For Twitter, its speed and ephemerality are so high that advertising logic seems contravened. The bursting of the dotcom bubble in 2000 showed the dangers of precariously-funded internet companies’ floating on stock markets.

So perhaps chief executive Jack Dorsey feels that changing Twitter’s technological design will fix its economic problems, increasing the length of users’ attention span — and therefore the amount of time in front of adverts — with an increase in the length of tweets. But over the ten years since it launched, Twitter users have become accustomed to how Twitter works and may continue using it as they always have.

Twitter finds itself in a bind: immensely popular but unprofitable, with no guarantee that what introducing 10,000 character tweets will change this as neither current nor alternative design promise large profits.

Twitter’s economic crisis reflects the crisis in our public sphere. New technologies are often accompanied by a certain fetishism, that either celebrates it as a technological fix to all society’s ills, or demonises it as bringing about the end of civilisation. The arrival of social media is no different: some see it as the harbinger of digital democracy and a revitalised public sphere, while others argue that it makes us stupid and lowers the tone. In truth neither is right, because communications both shape society and are shaped by it.

We need to slow down. Just like the slow food movement, we also need slow media that give us time to develop discussion. This inevitably means rolling back the capitalist logic of advertising sales so the focus can be on quality content, not monetising adverts. De-commercialisation and de-acceleration are strategies for saving the media. [comment:  I'm all for decommercialising, but definitely not for de-acceleration.]

I grew up in Austria, where the national public service broadcaster ORF hosted the evening television discussion program Club 2 several times a week. This format’s unique feature was potentially unlimited airtime, which often resulted in hours-long, in-depth discussions of contemporary issues lasting into the morning hours. Club 2 was prototypical slow media.  [comment:  it sounds like state stasi propaganda hell,  catering to & exploiting the liberal left intelligentsia to brainwash the public ... that might bother to watch this slow propaganda crap.]

If social media’s commercial logic is flawed, without tackling the capitalist political economy Twitter’s proposed changes are not enough. A more radical approach would be to turn Twitter into a non-commercial, non-profit platform without advertising that substitutes accumulation and speed for striving to foster sustained communication and debate[comment:  I'm all for no adverising, but as for the rest of it:  noooooooo.  It's the speed of information flow that is the attraction and the benefit of the platform, from which you pick & choose what you wish to follow up more fully.]

Think that’s impossible? Non-commercial logic works for Wikipedia — one of the most popular sites on the web — which is a non-profit funded by grants, donations and some paid services it offers. [comment:  Wikipedia is OK to get some basic INITIAL key facts, while bearing in mind that you are reading bias & propaganda.  It is TAINTED information that is shaped by various propagandist editors who withhold vital facts, in their quest to spin the subject positively.  It's biased and distorted.  Various interest groups (and PR companies) have their hooks in it, so it's something of a joke.]

Why shouldn’t it also work for Twitter? Radical improvements require the de-commodification of online communication — something that would require fundamental design and political-economic changes, and also the development of alternative funding models, such as a participatory media fee — a tax that advertising-based companies pay to access the audiences that generate their profits.  [comment:  WTF?  A 'participatory media fee' is commercialisation rather than decommercialisation.  And 'advertising-based' access to audience is going to amount to (a) some privacy robbing tactic and (b) adversing in some form.]

The internet’s potential is vast. It’s important not to be sidetracked by profits but to use it to foster political debate and understanding in a world of global violence, economic crisis, and environmental catastrophe. The social media age has not yet developed its Club 2: we must make the move from social media capitalism towards a public sphere-focused social media and a media that is held in the commons — only then can social media become truly social.

COMMENT
The proposal:
"we must make the move from social media capitalism towards a public sphere-focused social media and a media that is held in the commons"
sounds good in theory.

But if the proposal results in more Wikipedia-style bias and propaganda that's dominated by interest groups, then it's not much of a proposal.

Those that are sufficiently motivated can learn a great deal from speedy internet information exchange that can be followed up according to one's inclinations.

What we need is a no advertising and no censorship Twitter-style fast information exchange highway or bulletin board that discourages corporate spamming of any kind:  even the 'benign'.

What would be cool is internet info 'rooms' (or channels), where you can tick certain boxes (of what is acceptable to you in terms of politics and censorship), so that you can narrow the pool of information down to something like:  non-liberal (PC) and uncensored, if you lean that way.
By the same token, uptight old people, bible-bashers, and delicate creatures who can't handle reality without being 'triggered', can opt for either a censored liberal heaven of their own choosing, or if this is too complicated to police on their behalf, they can be shown the cyber-door to existing commercial options.

Twitter 10,000 Character Plan Meets Backlash

Removing Twitter's 140-character limit is Jack Dorsey's biggest gamble yet

Reaction to the possibility of 10,000 character tweets has been overwhelmingly negative, but Jack Dorsey has his reasons

By James Titcomb

3:08PM GMT 07 Jan 2016

When Jack Dorsey sent the first tweet on March 21 2006, it was still 294 days until Steve Jobs would unveil the iPhone. There were no apps, and mobile phone messages were almost exclusively sent by text.

The limits of text messages were precisely how Dorsey and his fellow founders arrived at the 140-character limit that came to define Twitter. Before the smartphone era, tweets were designed to be sent by text, which were limited to 160 characters (the extra 20 was set aside for usernames).

In the 10 years since, we’ve all bought smartphones, and text messages have been replaced by apps. Twitter itself has also changed – adding photos, hashtags, polls, faves (now hearts) and more, but the 140-character cap has remained the same, a defining feature (if not the defining feature) of the social network that set it apart from the likes of Facebook.

Until now. On Tuesday it emerged that Twitter plans to raise the character limit on tweets, probably to 10,000. Dorsey confirmed this with a tweet of his own a few hours later defending the move.

Many Twitter devotees met the prospect with an instant backlash, and it’s easy to see why. A huge part of Twitter’s appeal, they say, is that tweets are short (if not always sweet). The cap allows users to keep up with the dozens of tweets a minute that pop up on their feeds, and it forces the public figures, pundits and comedians to keep things concise.

Long tweets would probably be displayed as 140 characters with a "read more" button to see longer ones, but opponents still felt the change would ruin the magic of Twitter: hashtags were started up in protest.

But it’s also easy to see why Twitter wants to change things. "We’ve spent a lot of time observing what people are doing on twitter, and we see them taking screenshots of text and tweeting it," Dorsey wrote in his own screenshotted statement (weighing in at 1,315 characters).  [comment: they're taking screenshots of SPECIFIC PORTIONS of text that convey a SPECIFIC message or point to readers - often from ARCHIVED news content.]

"Instead, what if that text…was actually text? Text that could be searched. Text that could be highlighted. That’s more utility and power." [comment:  it's not worth the effort b/c anything searched, highlighted & 'published' on Twitter shall wind up in some Twitter deletion black hole.  Far better off saving, editing & posting data independently of Twitter in-house offerings instead of doing the Twitter platform any freebie favours.  Even basic retweets are getting deleted from Twitter b/c some wanker or other doesn't maybe fancy the comment or hastag marked up on the retweet.  Once again, Twitter sucks balls.]

The bigger picture is that Twitter is in trouble. Monthly users grew by just 3 million in the third quarter of last year, against 13 million a year earlier. Twitter remains lossmaking. Dorsey, who was brought back as chief executive last year, has promised to revive Twitter with a host of new initiatives.  [comment:  most of those 'monthly users' that 'grew' are users the Twitter Stasi have blocked (by way of malicious reporting, sh*tty programming or active censorship) who have had to get back on the platform by setting up another account ... lol  F*ck you, Twitter.  Die soon.]

Unlike other new ideas like Moments, the recently-launched feature that replaces the Twitter timeline with packages of tweets summarising events, extending tweets isn’t really an attempt to coax more people onto the platform. But it could keep more people on Twitter who are on Twitter already. People who might instead follow a link; post on a blogging platform; or, as Dorsey did, link to an screenshot of text.  [comment:  screw Twitter and their 'packages' -- just another way of attempting to influence public participants.  Assh*les.]

In this way, it follows a similar pattern to other things Twitter has done to make tweets "richer" – allowing images, videos and gifs to be embedded, introducing polls and so on. Twitter was losing eyeballs to YouTube, and fixed it. Now, it is losing them to Tumblr, Medium and Facebook, and wants to fix that.  [comment:  I detest polls, as there's always an ulterior motive:  in this case furnishing Twitter with free information probably.  Refuse to give these censoring and politically suppressing corporate assh*les any freebies.  Ignore their sh*tty polls feature until it DIES.]

The question is whether it can accomplish this without annoying the people that love the short format. One might argue that if you don’t want more than 140 characters, don’t use them, but many other people undoubtedly will, which could turn using Twitter into a process of opening and closing tweets, rather than the streamlined feed users are used to.

Like all social networks, so much of Twitter’s product is its users, and so the success or failure of a new feature rests in how they apply it. Upping the character limit is expected by the end of March, so we won’t know whether this new idea will vastly improve Twitter or ruin it until then. What is certain is that this is one of the biggest gambles that Dorsey has taken so far.

Twitter’s Longer Tweets Pave the Way for More Publisher Deals

Kurt Wagner  |  By Kurt Wagner |  @KurtWagner8

Now that we know Twitter is building a feature to let users share longer tweets, maybe as long as 10,000 characters, that could have big consequences for publishers.

CEO Jack Dorsey pointed out that expanding the tweet length means regular users won’t need to share images of text to work around the current limit. But more importantly, the move paves the way for Twitter to actually host content on its platform, not just links to content. Expanded tweets will give publishers a chance to run stories directly on Twitter the same way they do now with Facebook’s Instant Articles, Snapchat Discover and Apple News.

Twitter wouldn’t need to convince publishers that it’s a great place for their content — that has already been established by the fact that every publisher I know of has an active Twitter account (if not multiple Twitter accounts). Handing over content to Twitter could increase readership, too. Way more people see publisher tweets than actually click on their links. The benefit for Twitter, of course, is that hosting content keeps users inside of Twitter instead of clicking to venture off to other websites.

Twitter COO and revenue boss Adam Bain, in an interview Tuesday with Re/code’s Peter Kafka, didn’t dismiss the idea. “It’s an interesting way to look at it,” he said. “We certainly have been helping content companies today bring video content closer to consumers.” He mentioned twice that Twitter and publishers are working to generate revenue “together.”

Twitter could certainly benefit from a new revenue stream. The company’s user growth has basically flatlined, which means Twitter needs to come up with ways to make more money from the same pool of people already on the service. Twitter has been able to do this over the past year. Revenue in Q3 jumped almost 58 percent over the previous year despite user growth of just 11 percent. But there’s no doubt the company is looking for other forms of revenue to sustain that trend.

Questions still remain, of course. What might ads tied to hosted content look like? Could Twitter put an ad inside a tweet? Imagine reading a headline in a tweet, expanding that tweet to read an article, and coming across some kind of ad midway through the story or along the right rail.

It seems like a possibility, although Twitter has made no indication it’s thinking along these lines.

Plus, don’t forget that Twitter and Google “teamed up” on a project that felt like it might offer something similar back in September, but that turned out to be more of a Google project without any content actually living on Twitter.

Hosting content is the new “thing to do” for social platforms, and it certainly makes sense for Twitter. Longer tweets may just be step one.

COMMENT

Hosting publisher content on 'social platforms' (as well as the annoying Twitter advertising spamming that they're already bugging participants with) is something of an oxymoron:  there's nothing 'social' about such an arrangement.

By amping up commercialising, by hosting a heap of crap, by annoying public participants with advertising, by hosting large slabs of MSM, corporate, government & intelligentsia propaganda and spam, this platform is anything but 'social'.

The sooner people find some other way to communicate information by cutting out the commercially motivated middle man, corporations, and the state, the better.

Why aren't all those open source developers creating a real peoples' communication platform?

Mona Shindy case: Defence impartiality caught in a Twitter trap

    The Australian
    January 9, 2016 12:00AM

    Leo Shanahan     Reporter, Sydney

Zimbabwean Muslim cleric Mufti Ismail Menk runs a kind of benign Twitter account that projects a “can’t we just all get along” schtick appealing to Western sensibilities. Menk tweets out statements such as: “Learn to make the most of each day. Once over, it’ll never return. So be wary of what you put in a day. Fill it with good deeds & kindness.”

No doubt it was with such sentiments in mind that Captain Mona Shindy, the navy’s most senior Muslim officer and the naval chief strategic adviser on Islamic affairs, at one stage describing him as “a source of wisdom”, retweeted Menk’s advice not to get “rude abusive or insulting”.

More discreet are his views on homosexuals, whom he calls “filthy”. A recent tour of British universities was abandoned after videos of sermons surfaced in which Menk claimed gays “are worse than animals”.

There is no suggestion Shindy endorses Menk’s views on gays, but it neatly illustrates the trap of social media for a member of the Australian Defence Force.

Shindy’s Twitter account @navyislamic was shut down by Chief of Navy Tim Barrett in December after tweets endorsed the Australian Grand Mufti’s response to the Paris terror attacks, made gibes at Tony Abbott and questioned Australian foreign policy in Iraq. The social media and political activities policy of the ADF demands strict political neutrality from members when commenting in a capacity identifying them as ADF employees.
[comment:  no such thing as 'strict political neutrality' -- even benign schtick & infomercial messaging IS POLITICAL & IDEOLOGICAL dissemination / influence / opinion shaping]

How does an organisation that has to be absolutely neutral in its political positioning exist in the politically febrile world of social media? How do you engage in identity politics, creating positions such as “Islamic cultural adviser” that almost by their nature attract political comment, without endangering the impartiality of the officer or the ADF?
[comment:  'impartiality' -- got to be kidding -- position itself is indicative of political state messaging role]

The position of Islamic cultural adviser was established in 2013 by Barrett’s predecessor Ray Griggs. According to the navy, “the position … was established to help improve Navy’s understanding of the cultural issues of the many Muslim navies/nations that it operates withCapt Shindy also provides advice on how Navy can become a more attractive employer from an Islamic perspective as part of our broader diversity approach.” At the end of last year, the ADF had 103 permanent members who identified as Muslim, 26 of them in the navy.

Rodger Shanahan (no relation), a research fellow at the Lowy Institute and a former army officer, believes Shindy clearly crossed the line of what is acceptable political comment from an ADF officer. “She showed poor judgment, stepped over the line and should’ve known better,” he tells The Weekend Australian.

He believes the Twitter controversy points to problems the ADF faces in its determination to have a social media presence. “The military is not really allowed to enter into” all the “meaty stuff that makes social media interesting and dynamic”, Shanahan says, so “it almost becomes an infomercial”. The second problem is the nebulous nature of Shindy’s role as an Islamic cultural adviser. Shanahan says defence forces can only “be concerned with operational not social outcomes” and it’s unclear what operational benefit is being provided by the role.

He claims the ADF would be better off following a US model of employing foreign area officers, who can be of any religion but trained in particular geographic areas to offer cultural advice
.

Neil James, executive director of the Australia Defence Association, says the ADF needs a diversity policy in the interests of a representative workforce, but the Islamic cultural advisory role has failed. “I think the experiment of an Islamic cultural adviser hasn’t worked. They do have indigenous cultural advisers and they do work, but they are advising on culture largely and not religion. In this case they did not have a definition of what a cultural adviser actually did.”

Another problem, says James, are the inconsistencies in the ADF crackdowns for breaches of its social media and political commentary policies.

“One of the problems they have had is that what you might loosely call the right-wing commentators have been punished and what you might call left-wing commentators haven’t been.”

He also says the navy’s excuse for closing the @navyislamic account — that it was attracting “contentious comments” — was disingenuous given that many would regard Shindy’s comments as contentious.

“You have comments on a navy website which a lot of people would consider an apologia for Islamist terrorism,” James says.

While accepting the Shindy case is very different from that of Bernard Gaynor — who was sacked for making a statement about military marching in Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras — experts and former ADF members accept it puts the ADF in a bind over what is considered acceptable political commentary.

The ADF is appealing Gaynor’s recent victory in the Federal Court, which found his decommissioning was invalid on the grounds his comment was made as a private citizen and was protected under the implied right to political communication.

Gaynor has been a long-time critic of Shindy and transgender Group Captain Cate McGregor. He was crowing this week that the removal of the @navyislamic feed was a victory for him and the Australian Liberty Alliance.

It may be galling for it to be lectured by Gaynor, but when the ADF chooses to navigate the minefield of social media and identity politics, allies can just as easily turn out to be enemies.

NOTE - follow up U.S.A. STATE STASI PROPAGANDA - 'FOREIGN' MODEL

[CLICK image for enlargement / clarity]

Found my first Aussie state Twitter PsyOps.
Aussie State Stasi at work right here.
Need to think about this before concluding what I think overall.  But I tend to be as opposed to state propaganda as I am to state (and corporate media / social media platform) censorship.

Setting it aside for the moment.
Lowy Institute is just another state Stasi ideology & corporate propaganda echo chamber (retail magnate / corporate established), so anything they have to offer in this or any other debate  is automatically suspect.
