Although the writer is referred to as a 'conspiracy theory professor' and 'the so-called nutty professor' [DailyMail], I'm pretty sure the material on the CIA is verifiable. James F Tracy, tenured professor of media studies, was fired from Florida Atlantic University for his analysis of the Sandy Hook shootings.  In turn, Tracy has filed a claim against the university. Dr. Tracy, an award-winning American academic with expertise in communications, media, and conspiracy studies, was awarded lifetime tenure by Florida Atlantic University in 2008. He holds a Ph.D. in mass communications and taught courses at FAU in Communications, including a course entitled “Culture of Conspiracy”. Tracy won a Project Censored award in 2013 for the story, “Wireless Technology: A Looming Health Crisis,” which was featured in Censored 2013: Dispatches From the Media Revolution. FAU school officials first threatened Tracy with disciplinary action after a defamatory local and national media attack concerning Tracy’s online postings in early 2013. However, the University’s administration withdrew its initial threats following intervention by Tracy’s union representatives at UFF and FEA. In late 2015, Professor Tracy was again threatened with disciplinary action for requesting clarification on and questioning changes made to the University’s vague and confusing “Conflict of Interest/Outside Activities” policy. Finally, the question is raised, why is Ellsberg still associating with those very CIA people he worked with in Vietnam (he avoids talking about in his autobiography), decades after the fact? Valentine’s research matches the entirely independent (and highly suppressed) material in the exposé of a former Pentagon liaison to the CIA, ‘The Secret Team‘, by Colonel L. Fletcher Prouty. The reasons given for the Pentagon Papers release, by both Valentine and Prouty, is to shift any scrutiny and public attention away from the CIA and its activities in Vietnam; inclusive of narcotics trafficking & dirty war assassinations (Valentine’s focus) and how clandestine CIA policies were implemented to the detriment of the USA national interest (Prouty’s focus.) We have been saying that the release of the Pentagon Papers by the former CIA agent and long-time associate of Edward G. Lansdale, Daniel Ellsberg, may have been the opening attack by the CIA to cover its disengagement not only from the physical conflict in Indochina, but also from the historical record of that disastrous event. In this effort, the CIA appears to be trying to hide behind its own best cover story, that it is only an intelligence agency and that its fine intelligence work during the past twenty years on the subject of Southeast Asia is all that we should remember. According to VICE News, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC), included an amendment to S. 3017 that would require the Director of National Intelligence to submit reports detailing the relationship between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agencies and Hollywood. It would also require 15 other agencies to disclose the nature of their relationships with the film industry. These reports would have to be presented annually to congressional oversight committees. Between 2006 and 2011, VICE reported, the CIA’s Office of Public Affairs (OPA) had a role in at least 22 of the U.S. entertainment industry’s projects. Some of the productions listed by VICE included the films Argo and Zero Dark Thirty, television shows like Top Chef and Covert Affairs, and documentaries such as the History channel’s Air America and the BBC’s The Secret War on Terror. The book, The Devil’s Light, also had the help of the CIA. Some of the most controversial findings regarding the relationship between OPA officials and Hollywood insiders were tied to the blockbuster, Zero Dark Thirty. According to the redacted and previously classified December 2012 CIA report released by Judicial Watch, the CIA granted “‘secret level’ access to the makers of the movie Zero Dark Thirty.” According to VICE, “filmmakers Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal showered CIA officers involved in the operation with gifts and received unprecedented access, which included the disclosure of classified information to Bigelow and Boal by CIA director Leon Panetta.” While these revealing facts shocked the world at the time of their release, the relationship between the CIA and the entertainment industry actually dates back to the 1950s. According to an interview with Public Radio International, Tricia Jenkins, author of The CIA in Hollywood, says that the CIA “developed a think tank to fight communist ideology, which negotiated the rights to George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ – getting a talking pig on the screen 20 years before ‘Charlotte’s Web.’” The agency pressed for “line changes in 1950s scripts to make black characters more dignified, and white characters more tolerant” in order to promote “an attractive image of America to a world picking sides in the Cold War.” In 1996, PRI reports, the CIA employed a Hollywood liaison. Chase Brandon was the cousin of actor Tommy Lee Jones, a relationship that lent the agency a great number of valuable Hollywood connections. After Brandon was brought on, Jenkins explains, the portrayal of the CIA changed:     Before the 1990s, in films like ‘Three Days of the Condor’, the CIA was portrayed as evil, amoral assassins, or sometimes buffoons, like Max on the TV show ‘Get Smart’. “Now,” Jenkins told PRI, “it’s a much more favorable presentation. Frequently being depicted as a moral organization that is highly efficient. It rarely makes mistakes, it’s needed more than ever.” PRI reports that some of the productions that had received support from the CIA since the 1990s included The Sum of All Fears. You cannot flush a toilet there without the Americans knowing about it.” This sets the scene for the Panama Papers leak – a massive hoard of 11.5 million documents allegedly leaked from someone inside offshore heavies Mossack Fonseca to the center-left, NATO-friendly Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper in Munich and then shared by the ICIJ with selected mainstream media partners. Even without a smoking gun, a case can be made this alleged most massive leak ever was obtained by – what else – U.S. intel. This is the kind of stuff the NSA excels at. The NSA is able to break into virtually any database and/or archives anywhere; they steal “secrets;” and then selectively destroy/blackmail/protect assets and “enemies,” according to USG interests.     Absolutely nothing of real substance happens in Panama without a green light by the United States government. That’s the essence of a limited hangout sold to public opinion as a serious corruption investigation. What’s already certain is that the full extent of the Panama leak will never be known. Because it may – inadvertently and directly – implicate a gaggle of Western 0.00000001 percent multibillionaires and corporations. All of them play the offshore casino game (although not necessarily in Panama.) So the Panama Papers, stripped to the bone, may reveal themselves essentially as an infowar operation by the NSA – targeted mostly against “enemies” (as in the BRICS nations) and selected disposable pawns; a weaponized psyops posing as an 'activist leak', straight from the Hybrid War playbook. Step on the Monster Truck A who’s who of wealthy/powerful players has been directly targeted in the Panama Papers, from the – demented – King of Saudi Arabia to former Fiat/Ferrari stalwart Luca de Montezemolo, from Lionel Messi to (unnamed) Chinese Communist Party officials and the brother-in-law of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Extra-juicy element is provided by the presence of Alaa Mubarak – the son of the deposed Egyptian snake; Ayad Allawi, the butcher of Fallujah and former U.S. occupation prime minister; Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (a Saudi protégé, so he must get offshore advice as well); and Dov Weisglass, the butcher of Gaza and former advisor to Israeli Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert (this one already convicted of corruption.) These are all disposable. We find in the list not only Middle Eastern racketeers but also the token “respectable” European – from Iceland’s Prime Minister (already forced to resign) to David Cameron’s father Ian. And some players that might be considered Exceptionalistan’s friends, such as vulture fund-friendly Argentina President Mauricio Macri and chocolate heavyweight cum Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who has a lot of funds parked in the British Virgin Islands. Predictably, particular emphasis is on BRICS members – from those mysterious Chinese to Indian companies. As far as Brazil is concerned, there may be a healthy counterpoint; the presence of notoriously corrupt leader of the lower house Eduardo Cunha; his Swiss accounts had surfaced after the HSBC leaks, now some more showed up on the Panama Leaks. Still to be explained is a juicy Brazilian-related angle; whether the Panama Leaks are directly related to the fact that Ramon Fonseca, 50 percent of Mossack Fonseca, was dismissed as president of the Panameñista Party last month because of Operation Car Wash – which targets mostly the ruling Workers’ Party in Brazil. The Panama Papers are in fact a Monster Truck, global version of Car Wash. Lula, predictably, is not on the Panama list – to the despair of the Exceptionalistan-supported regime changers in Brazil, many of them (media barons, bankers, businessmen) featured on the previous HSBC leaks. Regime-Changers-in-Chief, the Globo media empire, are also not on the Panama leaks, although they profit from a certified offshore racket. Syria was always bound to be a key target. Much of Western corporate media “newsworthy” stories now focus on “Assad’s fixer” Rami Makhlouf, described in U.S. diplomatic cables as Syria’s “poster boy for corruption” and under U.S. sanctions since February 2008. Such a convenient target. Yet “poster boy” happened to be quite sheltered by HSBC as well. Putin Did It And so we finally get to the key target of Monster Truck (in Brazil’s Car Wash they are Lula and President Rousseff). It’s got the requisite BRICS angle and it’s a dream spin; cue to virtually every major Western corporate media headline blaring that Vladimir Putin has stashed US$2 billion offshore. The problem is he didn’t. Putin is guilty by association because of his “close associates” Arkady and Boris Rotenberg’s alleged ties to money laundering. Yet three “incriminating” emails in the files happen not to “incriminate” them, or Putin. And then there’s cellist Sergey Roldugin, a childhood friend of Putin’s. Here’s the – politically filtered – spin by the ICIJ: “The records show Roldugin is a behind-the-scenes player in a clandestine network operated by Putin associates that has shuffled at least US$2 billion through banks and offshore companies. In the documents, Roldugin is listed as the owner of offshore companies that have obtained payments from other companies worth tens of millions of dollars. … It’s possible Roldugin, who has publicly claimed not to be a businessman, is not the true beneficiary of these riches. Instead, the evidence in the files suggests Roldugin is acting as a front man for a network of Putin loyalists – and perhaps for Putin himself.” What about rephrasing it as, “the evidence in the files suggests Lionel Messi is acting as a frontman for a network of football loyalists trying to evade the rape of Argentina by U.S. hedge fund vultures friendly to new President and offshore account holder Mauricio Macri”? The juiciest bit is that Moscow knew all along another Hybrid War offensive chapter was imminent, days if not weeks before Panama went viral. Make America Great Again Offshore bank accounts are not intrinsically illegal. Quite a few though involve dodgy money, or at least provide the euphemistic “low-tax environment” fundamental to the very wealthy.     OPINION:     The New Silk Roads and the Rise of the 'Chinese Dream'    It’s not an accident that the Panama Papers unveil connections to several dozen firms and individuals who are prominently featured in U.S. sanctions blacklists. That configures the Panama Papers as even more of a limited hangout; the real Papers would be the Cayman Papers or the Virgin Island Papers. That’s where most of the in-the-know park their money (not to mention Luxembourg). Adding to the hilarity factor, David Cameron suddenly woke up to the need to stop British overseas territories – and Crown dependencies – being used by the wealthy to park their untaxed fortune. It’s never going to happen. The so-called international banking/financial system is a demented casino. It’s not only 8 percent; Hong Kong players tell me as much as 50 percent of global wealth may currently be parked, undisturbed, in untaxable offshore havens. If a fraction of these astonishing funds would be taxed, governments right and left would be paying their debts, investing in infrastructure, launching round after round of sustainable growth, and a productive spiral would be in motion. And that leads us to the cherry in the corruption cake; how come there are no Americans in this limited hangout leak? Of course there are none. Panama is for suckers. Too obvious. Too rakish. Too crude. Ergo, forget about The Cayman Papers. As for foreigners in-the-know, we just need to go back a mere three months ago to this Bloomberg piece, where Andrew Penney, Managing Director of Rothschild & Co., spells it all out; the U.S. “is effectively the biggest tax haven in the world.” The circle is finally squared; Panama is revealed as the patsy – mere collateral damage in this limited hangout Monster Truck operation. Menk tweets out statements such as: “Learn to make the most of each day. Once over, it’ll never return. So be wary of what you put in a day. Fill it with good deeds & kindness.” No doubt it was with such sentiments in mind that Captain Mona Shindy, the navy’s most senior Muslim officer and the naval chief strategic adviser on Islamic affairs, at one stage describing him as “a source of wisdom”, retweeted Menk’s advice not to get “rude abusive or insulting”. More discreet are his views on homosexuals, whom he calls “filthy”. A recent tour of British universities was abandoned after videos of sermons surfaced in which Menk claimed gays “are worse than animals”. There is no suggestion Shindy endorses Menk’s views on gays, but it neatly illustrates the trap of social media for a member of the Australian Defence Force. Shindy’s Twitter account @navyislamic was shut down by Chief of Navy Tim Barrett in December after tweets endorsed the Australian Grand Mufti’s response to the Paris terror attacks, made gibes at Tony Abbott and questioned Australian foreign policy in Iraq. The social media and political activities policy of the ADF demands strict political neutrality from members when commenting in a capacity identifying them as ADF employees.  [comment:  no such thing as 'strict political neutrality' -- even benign schtick & infomercial messaging IS POLITICAL & IDEOLOGICAL dissemination / influence / opinion shaping] How does an organisation that has to be absolutely neutral in its political positioning exist in the politically febrile world of social media? How do you engage in identity politics, creating positions such as “Islamic cultural adviser” that almost by their nature attract political comment, without endangering the impartiality of the officer or the ADF?  [comment:  'impartiality' -- got to be kidding -- position itself is indicative of political state messaging role]   The position of Islamic cultural adviser was established in 2013 by Barrett’s predecessor Ray Griggs. According to the navy, “the position … was established to help improve Navy’s understanding of the cultural issues of the many Muslim navies/nations that it operates with … Capt Shindy also provides advice on how Navy can become a more attractive employer from an Islamic perspective as part of our broader diversity approach.” At the end of last year, the ADF had 103 permanent members who identified as Muslim, 26 of them in the navy. Rodger Shanahan (no relation), a research fellow at the Lowy Institute and a former army officer, believes Shindy clearly crossed the line of what is acceptable political comment from an ADF officer. “She showed poor judgment, stepped over the line and should’ve known better,” he tells The Weekend Australian. He believes the Twitter controversy points to problems the ADF faces in its determination to have a social media presence. “The military is not really allowed to enter into” all the “meaty stuff that makes social media ­interesting and dynamic”, Shanahan says, so “it almost becomes an infomercial”. The second problem is the nebulous nature of Shindy’s role as an Islamic cultural adviser. Shanahan says defence forces can only “be concerned with operational not social outcomes” and it’s unclear what operational benefit is being provided by the role. He claims the ADF would be better off following a US model of employing foreign area officers, who can be of any religion but trained in particular geographic areas to offer cultural advice. Neil James, executive director of the Australia Defence Association, says the ADF needs a diversity policy in the interests of a representative workforce, but the Islamic cultural advisory role has failed. “I think the experiment of an Islamic cultural adviser hasn’t worked. They do have indigenous cultural advisers and they do work, but they are advising on culture largely and not religion. In this case they did not have a definition of what a cultural adviser actually did.” Another problem, says James, are the inconsistencies in the ADF crackdowns for breaches of its social media and political commentary policies. “One of the problems they have had is that what you might loosely call the right-wing commentators have been punished and what you might call left-wing commentators haven’t been.” He also says the navy’s excuse for closing the @navyislamic account — that it was attracting “contentious comments” — was disingenuous given that many would regard Shindy’s comments as contentious. “You have comments on a navy website which a lot of people would consider an apologia for Islamist terrorism,” James says. While accepting the Shindy case is very different from that of Bernard Gaynor — who was sacked for making a statement about military marching in Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras — experts and former ADF members accept it puts the ADF in a bind over what is considered acceptable political commentary. The ADF is appealing Gaynor’s recent victory in the Federal Court, which found his decommissioning was invalid on the grounds his comment was made as a private citizen and was protected under the implied right to political communication. Gaynor has been a long-time critic of Shindy and transgender Group Captain Cate McGregor. He was crowing this week that the removal of the @navyislamic feed was a victory for him and the Australian Liberty Alliance.
