Operation Telic = British military ops, invasion of Iraq 2003 to withdrawal of troops 2011.
British deployed 46,000 troops at outset of illegal invasion.
[EDIT: Wikipedia entry refers to initial troops but does not mention huge number of British troops sent to Iraq since 2003. The Op Telic report refers to circa 80,000 British troops since February 2003 to (presumably) 2006 date of report (page 9). Wikipedia info is from a 2011 BBC article that summarises the Iraq illegal war, and this article also only mentions the 46,000 UK troops, which may well have been the initial invasion force - but there is at least a total of 80,000 if not more British troops having been deployed to Iraq, judging by the 2006 report. That's a stunning number. But almost 50k soldiers sent to illegally invade another country is pretty impressive, as well. So is spending £9.24 billion at taxpayer expense, while ONE MILLION BRITONS rely on FOOD BANKS and while the ESSEX POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN UNDERFUNDED for years, risking public safety. Wow. ]
Bulk of the British military mission ended by 2009. Small number of British navy personnel remained to 2011. British continue to remain involved in training and advisory mission in Iraq.
Totalcost of war to British taxpayer at £9.24 billion. [Wikipedia]
But there would be interest on that, so that can't be the full total. Unless it's fixed interest credit from the bankers to the British? LOL
"US will have spent almost $802bn (£512.8bn) on funding the war by the end of fiscal year 2011" [BBC] That's obscene. America's infrastructure is crumbling.
Summary / Understanding of WikiLeaks Overview / Introduction ... and limited skimming of report:
Report reveals
UK govt secretly planning illegal Iraq war during 2002 Blair govt kept pending invasion ('TELIC') secret
/ those privy were only inner circle officers & officials
/ until 3 months prior to invasion of Iraq
US 'ideological agenda' dominated / UK working to US timetable [not sure what that is, apart from American capitalists wanting to illegally invade and rob Iraq].
UK secrecy meant that:
1. military at large kept uninformed (to late 2002) 2. contractors vital to reconstruction & stabilisation of Iraq not contacted until end of invasion (Apr. 2003)
Limited discussion and scope of planning re the following, as result:
- strategy
- logistics, resources etc
- undertaking establishment of interim government
- undertaking reconstruction
- executing non-military tasks
Further: little finance requested for reconstruction purposes at commencement of post combat ops
UK focus was therefore on resourcing Security Line of Operations (spending millions) and virtually nothing on the economic aspect, even though security depends on maintaining economic stability. [Not sure what 'Security Line' of ops is. Assume it is just gaining control of the country? ]
Geneva Conventions are applicable to states (and their agents), as well as the military. UK breached Geneva Conventions.
Looks like US wasn't so big on being restricted by obligations of international law and human rights law, in terms of the onus to exercise proportionality and to limit 'collateral damage'.
Interrogation of high value detainees was also an issue for UK staff embedded with coalition units in Iraq. Not quite clear to me in which way (but I'm not familiar with this kind of thing). Sounds like the interrogators needed lawyers.
US and UK had no plan for contending with post Iraq invasion insurgency. Americans thought they knew better and did not take suitable early counter-measures to Iraqi insurgency suggested in mid-2003 by the more savy British imperialist masters, who are widely experienced at invasion and suppression of local populations (and at recognising and quelling local uprisings), due to a history of hundreds of years of aggressive imperialist military activity (examples of British imperialist counter-insurgency experience: Northern Ireland, Malaya and Kenya). [British Malaya = Malay States (Malay Peninsula) + Singapore + Straits Settlements ]
British applied techniques used in Northern Ireland to 'intelligence cells' in Iraq and some battle groups in Iraq used trained personnel, experienced in Northern Ireland (eg. info ops, psyops, media ops).
Not quite clear to me what 'intelligence cells' are, but I guess it's there in the report. Dictionary look-up would indicate that these are 'terrorist cells' (ie probably small groups of organised Iraqi resistance to invasion of their homeland [tfd]). The dictionary meaning needs changing, by sound of things. It should be 'resistance cells'.
Those that took part described Iraq as exactly like Northern Ireland. So what does that say about the British in Ireland? [Ireland that's now been defeated by bankers and losing its culture and its mother tongue.]
Note: increase in violent incidents (late 2003) led to locals being able to gain support for insurgency. That probably explains why insurgencies need to be suppressed quickly: so support for insurrection does not spread. Same goes for sh*tty local economy: if economy is bad, locals will support insurgents. That's where what I guess is money for bribes and money for pumping into the local economy is handy. UK didn't come prepared for that.
Note: in the case of invasions or military interventions in failing or fragile states, such interventions will cause collapse of government. Invaders need to be prepared to take on the work of government and invader military is not the best man for the job, unless it is for very short periods of time. And maintaining various structures and stability is complicated: there's government, humanitarian aid, the justice system and info ops that are on the agenda for future planning of invasions.
LMAO ... capitalist invaders haven't got it right, after all the invasions committed in the name of US-Anglo Capitalism. UK Capitalist report suggests that post invasion responsibilities need to be divvied up between the invaders before the invasion. Basically, if the invaders don't coordinate their post invasion and military conflict control & stabilisation efforts with one another, re-establishing the state functions that they destroyed will take longer and that will mean taking longer to pull out troops (probably making voters at home unhappy).
Re-establishing stability in destroyed nations takes years. First 3 months of invasion are critical for the invaders, in terms of winning over the invaded masses.
British soldiers became habituated to violence due to acceptance of high levels of violence, profoundly changing British soldiers that served in Iraq.
British investigating in Iraq did a lame job of finding abuse: out of 191 cases investigated, despite rising violence, classed only 5 cases as deliberate abuse.
[*Not sure if 'TELIC' is also an acronym for something and, if so, what.]
[*that's how I understood the WikiLeaks introduction to the leaked report ... but that's not necessarily 100%, as I haven't yet read much of this kind of material. ]
MoD admits troops assaulted nine Iraqi civilians at food depot
The Ministry of Defence has admitted nine Iraqi men suffered unlawful assaults while being detained by British troops, it has been revealed.
The men are bringing a claim for civil damages against the MoD for physical and sexual abuse they say they suffered at Camp Bread Basket, a food distribution depot near Basra, in May 2003.
Three soldiers from the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers were court martialled, jailed and expelled from the Army in February 2005 for mistreating suspected looters in the incident, which led to the head of the Army apologising to the people of Iraq.
On A Tangent: *Enjoy reading the military tactical sort of info, but the same Capitalist Forces war machinery, that is applied by Capitalist government to invade and pillage foreign nations, can be applied to domestic populations in event of domestic insurrection. That means domestic populations are really just another occupied people, who must do as the occupiers demand ... and domestic populations are empty-handed and they rely completely on the Capitalists (eg. urban populations dependent upon retail logistics etc, LIKE A BIG CAPITALIST FARM & MAN IS THE DOMESTICATED FARM ANIMAL, FOR THE CAPITALIST FARMER'S PROFIT. That is why there is never change, why hard-won gains for working classes can be wound back by politicians, why the masses are exploited (eg. crumbling infrastructure, services under-funded, medical services privatised etc, while the MASSES are indebted for GENERATIONS to bankers to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars spent by CAPITALIST-CONTROLLED GOVERNMENTS on WARS OF AGGRESSION ABROAD, primarily and vastly for the benefit of the wealthy capitalist class). AND DUE to the fact that helpless domestic populations areOCCUPIED BY CAPITALISTS AND THEIR FORCES, all European domestic populations have their homelands invaded as a top-down implemented program of invasion — they can do nothing about. For an example of how ineffectual protest is in what they refer to as 'democracy', look at the 1980s British miners' strikes and look at the might of the state: police. And that is just the police. The state also has the military, that is well armed, experienced, habituated to violence and killing.

Ambassador Bremer, please give us our medal back
By Jon Perr
Wednesday Jun 18, 2014 · 4:31 AM AEST
"This weekend, the architects of President Bush's disastrous Iraq war fanned out in what might be deemed Operation Iraqi Blame Shift. But of all the Republican efforts to make Barack Obama's the face of Bush's failure, perhaps none is more pathetic than that of L. Paul Bremer. On television and in the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal, Bremer blamed President Obama for the explosion of sectarian conflict unleashed by the removal of Saddam Hussein. That is about as disgusting a charge as Ambassador Bremer could make. After all, as Viceroy of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, Paul Bremer almost single-handedly destroyed the infrastructure of the Iraqi government and military. And for that, George W. Bush gave him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In his WSJ op-ed, Bremer writes about the implosion of Iraq as if we were never there. Arguing for a perpetual American military presence ...
... with his aggressive de-Baathification of the government, privatization of state-owned businesses and the disbanding of the 400,000 man Iraqi army in May 2003, L. Paul Bremer was a one-man Sunni insurgency-generating machine. Or as Republicans are so fond of saying, he built that. "
Listening to this right now ... even though I'm personally not remotely into the humanitarian, universalist philosophy of WikiLeaks.
Still interesting in a number of respects. And nobody deserves an illegal invasion, illegal war, looting, destruction, theft of national treasures, killings of civilians etc, committed in Iraq by theUS-ANGLO CAPITALIST serving governments (and that of allied capitalist).
*LOL .. the way George Galloway says 'ruse' ... rrrrrrrruse.
I'm completely brain dead today. I keep replaying this and listening to it, but nothing sinks in.
Police finances under pressure last 5 years
pressure on Essex Police more acute
funding per head on policing in Essex county is below average (compared other police England & Wales) Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) 2014 Aprill - 2015 March: ASB = 56,506 incidents
of those: only 1,500 assessed as 'high risk'
Coalition govt reign
Essex Police CUT: £72.5 million in 'savings'
but UNDERFUNDED ESSEX POLICE & must find further: £60 million over next 5 years
97% of ASB incidents ('medium' & 'low' risk)
= unsustainable demand on resources
= jeopardise response to high risk cases & emergencies
Essex Chronicle further reports:
recent legislation gave local authorities more powers in dealing with anti-social behaviour
local council appointed Community Safety Officer to lead ASB responsibilities
Essex Police underfunded & forced to cut back even more
must prioritise the 1,500 calls
priorities:
- repeated ASB incidents
- vulnerable persons
- persons targeted via harassment or serious nuisance
- offender is identified
- offender behaviour requires police intervention to manage
Response reported ASB by police in uniform REDUCED to most serious incidents
'local authorities' now share policing responsibilities
police handball civil second-bananas referred to as 'partner organisations'
ONLY 3% of the calls relating to antisocial behaviour (ASB)
received by Essex Police were designated 'high risk'
“Bobbies on the beat” patrolling the streets described as old fashioned notion
not suited to limited resources; cyber crime cited BUT CYBER CRIME IS NOT ISSUE U.K. CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT SCUMBAG UNDERFUNDING OF ESSEX POLICE = PUBLIC SAFETY RISK ISSUE
COMMENT:
Chelmsford City Council
has been transformed to the 'anti-social behaviour' civil police
BUT THEY ARE NOT THE POLICE
& NOT BOUND BY THE SAME CONDITIONS / RULES etc
nor would the council command the same respect etc
meanwhile, the UNDERFUNDED ESSEX POLICE FORCE would likely be FORCED:
to flip all but MOST SERIOUS incidents to the city council
to designate more and more incidents in the lower risk categories, to give priority to what is REDUCED TO BARE ESSENTIAL POLICING
THAT gives the offenders the edge & reduces conditions conductive to maintaining public safety, if not already putting public safety AT RISK
Being prime ministermust be a puppet position. Looks like it doesn't matter who is the head puppet:
Theresa May to become Britain's new PM on Wednesday after Andrea Leadsom ends campaign
ABC Australia:
Theresa May will become Britain's new prime minister on Wednesday, with the task of steering its withdrawal from the European Union, after her last rival in the bid to succeed David Cameron abruptly abandoned her short-lived campaign. Ms May became the only contender when Andrea Leadsom — who had stirred a storm for suggesting she was more qualified to be the leader because she had children — quit the race on Monday. "I am honoured and humbled to have been chosen by the Conservative Party to become its leader," Ms May told reporters outside Parliament. "Brexit means Brexit and we are going to make a success of it. "We need a strong, new positive vision for the future of our country. A vision of a country that works not for the privileged few, but that works for every one of us."
[comment: May's lying already. She's there to secure the interests of the privileged ... LOL ]
I'm with the 'right-wingers' on women in politics: they shouldn't even get the vote. LOL (Half) kidding aside, I get the feeling this is some symbolic PR appointment by the Conservatives, whose last woman PM, Margaret Thatcher, is probably one of the most detested women in British, if not world, politics.
Uh-oh, this is no empty symbolic appointment. The Conservatives are set to give the working class a kick in the nuts, using Brexit and a woman PM as cover for their nasty agenda head. That's my best guess.
11th February 1975 Tories appoint Margaret Thatcher as leader of Conservatives - BBC:
"Mrs Thatcher - a mother of twins married to Denis, an oil executive - put in a brief appearance at a party in Pimlico ..." BBC
Sh*t, that doesn't bode well.
LOL ... they always put a woman in, as a cover for their nasty agenda.
Why the hate on Maggie?
List below sounds like it's drawn by a Culturally Marxist liberal leftie.
LOL ... I've gone to have a proper read of below list, and it's one of those Yeah-NAH-list moves.
So ignore fascist Thatcherite that wrote that list. LOL [ummmm ... I don't know that he actually is; I just said that for effect.]
But, yeah, I can see how the Maggie Thatcher led Conservatives were crap when you take a look at the overall charges.

87,000 stolen British bullets 'are in the hands of IS jihadis' after cache of ammunition is stolen from an Army training camp

A huge cache of ammunition has been stolen from a British Army training camp in the Middle East – and is now feared to be in the hands of Islamic State.
A Mail on Sunday investigation has discovered the haul of 87,000 5.56 bullets – enough to equip three infantry regiments – was taken from under the noses of UK troops during a desert exercise in Jordan.
Military sources have told this newspaper that the thieves – possibly acting on the orders of IS – cut a hole in the perimeter fence of an ammunition compound, drove a lorry inside, and towed away the container in which the bullets were stored.
The theft happened in March while 1,600 British troops were taking part in Exercise Shamal Storm – a series of large-scale desert manoeuvres also involving American and Jordanian soldiers.
The Mail on Sunday understands that the ammunition was not guarded around the clock but that British military vehicles regularly passed the compound. It is believed the thieves watched UK soldiers for several days and timed their raid to avoid the patrols. Crack SAS troops tried to recover the container when it was noticed it had gone missing – but their efforts were in vain. [comment: this is bullsh*t ... they're equipping ISIS]
The incident is thought to be the largest theft of British military equipment for decades.
Last night, a member of the Defence Select Committee demanded an urgent inquiry into how the deadly haul was removed from the training area near the coastal city of Aqaba, where troops also set up a field hospital and practised dealing with chemical and biological weapons threats.
The camp was close to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, parts of which are lawless and occupied by IS-affiliated terrorists who have threatened to attack holiday resorts in the region, such as Sharm el-Sheikh, which is visited by thousands of British tourists every year.
The theft raises the chilling prospect that UK holidaymakers could be shot dead by terrorists using British Army ammunition. While Jordan is a staunch UK ally, it is home to around 10,000 jihadis.
Reports indicate that IS has weapons capable of firing the stolen bullets. The terror group already has in its possession tens of thousands of US-made rifles, which use the same size Nato ammunition, and which it seized from the Iraqi army.
Last night, Conservative MP Richard Benyon, a member of the Commons Defence Select Committee, said: 'This is a very serious matter that I intend to raise immediately with the committee and the Ministry of Defence to find out what has happened. I hope the Army will learn from any mistakes made and ensure that never again will our ammunition fall into the wrong hands.' Terrorism expert Michael Burleigh described the security lapse as 'extraordinary', adding: 'This is a very dangerous situation. It is entirely possible that this ammunition could fall into the hands of illegal weapons dealers and find its way to extremist rebel groups, including Islamic State.'
An investigation by the Royal Military Police cleared UK troops of being involved in the theft. The case has now been handed to Jordanian police.
Details of the theft were uncovered by The Mail on Sunday using a Freedom of Information request.
Last night, a Ministry of Defence spokesman said: 'The Army takes the security of ammunition very seriously and has robust procedures to prevent losses and thefts. All thefts are rigorously investigated with civilian police forces.' [comment: Hahahahahahahaahahahahaaaa ... ]
Scandal of Britain's £6bn arms deals with war-torn Middle Eastern countries which could fall to ISIS
22:00, 9 Aug 2015
Updated 07:29, 10 Aug 2015
By Chris Hughes
It includes £15million in sales over the past five years to embattledLibya, large parts of which are already controlled by the vicious terror group
Britain is selling billions of pounds' worth of weapons to the war-torn Middle East – including countries which could be overrun by ISIS.
Our soaring arms deals in the region include £15million in sales over the past five years to embattled Libya, large parts of which are already controlled by the vicious terror group.
Anti-arms trade campaigners say our ability to stop the weapons falling into the wrong hands once they are sold to Arab and African governments is failing as the jihadi network spreads.
Arms deals with foreign buyers – brokered by civil servants and approved by the Government – have created a deadly business that means nearly two-thirds of UK weapons exports go to the battled-scarred Middle East, critics say.
Fighter jets, assault rifles, bombs, bullets and night-vision goggles are being sold to despots and dictators at an increasing rate, they warn, despite acute instability in the region.
Britain’s annual £8.5billion weapons exports include bomb-making equipment sold to Libya that could fall into the hands of ISIS. There are fears the terror network could overrun the North African nation next year.
Other countries in the region buying British arms may be controversial for other reasons.
Campaigners argue that Israel has used many Western weapons against Palestinians. And Turkey is engaged in conflict with Iraqi and Syrian Kurds, who we have treated as allies.
In Muslim North Africa there are similar human rights worries.
Algeria’s £278million worth of weaponry from the UK includes night sights for snipers and components for guns.
But our biggest trade is with Saudi Arabia, which spent £3.9billion on arms during the Tory-led government between 2010 and 2015.
In that cache are fighter jets, bomb components, explosives, armoured cars, ammo and grenades.
Spooks say Saudi Sunnis have armed ISIS and al-Qaeda to support war against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and bolster against Iran – both Shia enemies of Sunni extremism.
Figures show Britain’s weapons trade with the Middle East is increasing, with the region taking 61% of British arms exports, up 6% last year.
At the centre of it is the UK Trade and Investment Defence and Security Organisation – 130 civil servants whose job it is to promote arms sales.
A Freedom of Information request revealed UKTIDSO met as many as five times with representatives of just one Middle Eastern country at arms fairs this year.
The UK hosts two large trade events: the Security and Policing Fair, for internal security equipment, and the Farnborough International Airshow, which promotes fighter jets.
The news comes as ISIS unveiled a chilling new map of Europe as it plans for world domination by 2020.
Andrew Smith of Campaign Against Arms Trade said: “Arms fairs and backroom deals strengthen the UK’s ties to dictatorships and cement the government’s role as a global arms dealer.
“The government may talk about human rights, but it’s hypocritical when some of its civil servants directly promote arms sales to some of the most oppressive regimes in the world.”
It looks like they're arming ISIS, through official means (ie the arms sales to the Middle Eastern dictatorships, who then equip their proxies) as well as by unofficial means ... like the claimed 'losses'.

I'm not up for counting the dead on a daily basis, but I think it's important keeping an eye overall.
For me, among the most appalling was Lebanese Christians being blown up by multiple suicide bombers in their own village.
All of this is bad, but the French policeman and his partner being murdered in Paris by a knife wielding religious/political zealot is pretty horrific. I can't begin to imaging how terrified his partner would have been (I'm assuming it's his wife that was also killed). Yes. Child spared.
So much for the surveillance state:
Abballa had already been under surveillance for his connection to another man who left for Syria. He was convicted in 2013 of “criminal association with the aim of preparing terrorist acts”. He was sentenced to a three-year term in prison, of which six months were suspended.
The ISIS-linked media outlet, Amaq news agency took responsibility for the attack, claiming “an ISIS “fighter” had carried out the attack.” More | Daily Caller
Perhaps France needs to look at deportations, upon completion of prison sentences. That makes more sense than letting terrorists loose in the country.
And if there's a problem with deportation, alter the laws.
Exposing the ordinary French to terrorism that the French state courts by way of military and other interventions abroad on behalf of the wealthy elites (and effectively facilitates on French soil by way of immigration), is negligent.
