Turkish PM accuses Israel of ‘genocide’ AFP July 19, 2014 TURKISH Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has launched his most bitter attack yet against Israel over its air campaign against the Gaza Strip, accusing it of trying to carry out a “systematic genocide” of Palestinians. ... “The Western world remains silent; so does the Islamic world. Because those who lost their lives are Palestinian, you can’t hear their voices,” Mr Erdogan said. Mr Erdogan renewed his vehement criticism of the UN, which he accused of having no use and pursuing a hidden agenda. “What is the UN doing? Why has it been founded? For world peace? Does it contribute to the world peace? No. They are serving whatever their secret agenda is.” But he also accused other Islamic countries of being indifferent to the fate of the Palestinians, a possible swipe at Saudi Arabia and Egypt, with which Ankara has prickly ties. He said: “I am asking the Islamic world: Isn’t your heart shattered? Forget about the West. If your family does not embrace you, would others do that?” NATO member Turkey was traditionally Israel’s key ally in the Islamic world but relations have nose-dived since Mr Erdogan’s Islamic-rooted party came to power more than a decade ago. The killing of 10 Turks when Israeli marines stormed a Turkish relief ship bound for Gaza in international waters set the two countries at each other’s throats. Hundreds of protesters held a march in central Istanbul yesterday shouting slogans like “Palestine and Gaza are our honour” and “Damn murderer Israel”. [No mention WHY.] Encouraged by the US, progress had been made towards normalising ties between the former allies but Mr Erdogan has said there can be no thawing of relations so long as the “massacres” continue. Mr Erdogan had already accused far-right Israeli politician Ayelet Shaked on Tuesday of sharing the same mentality as Adolf Hitler. [No mention WHY he does so.] SOURCE - The Australian - here. |

COMMENT
Western media, across the board, appear not to reporting on what was said by Israeli politician Ayelet Shaked [see post here], while it has been reported in Arabic and some other press.
That puts a different slant on Erodogan's charges about the shared mentality with Hitler; and it puts a different slant on the protests in Istanbul -- if you take into account what the far-right political attitude is in Israel.
But the public in the west will not have the opportunity to take this into account; the western public only know the censored version by the look of things.
Is anyone as shocked as I am? Or is this the norm?
